Having lost the one good thing in his life, Ryder wants only to forget, to help others and defend his country. After a mission goes south and his SEAL brother is hurt, Ryder checks on him in Medical and finds the one that got away working there. In no time at all, the same damn feelings he used to have for Caitlyn are back as if they’d never gone away. She’s not his anymore, but maybe friendship … friendship is enough…
That’s the last thing Caitlyn wants with Ryder. She isn’t here by chance. Realizing she screwed up their relationship big-time, she’ll do anything to get him back in her life, even if it means working overseas on the off-chance of seeing him sometimes.
When the outpost is attacked, medical supplies go missing and Caitlyn is grabbed, all bets for a fairy-tale ending are off. What’s really important is all that matters now, and the two of them need to figure out what that is before they lose that very thing again–this time permanently.

Caitlyn made a big mistake not contacting Ryder after a spectacular weekend that ended with his declaring his love for her. She’d walked out but she did so because she was overwhelmed. Now so much time has passed and she’s made another big mistake by getting Mac to take her to a barbeque where she thought she’d be able to talk to him. Instead he left to avoid her.
A military nurse, Caitlyn is once again deployed, she’s also where Ryder and his team are assigned. Although she is in the same camp, running into them isn’t easy with tensions so high in the area.
Mac is injured on a mission and Ryder discovers Caitlyn is on base. Not happy with that but sort of understanding that she wanted to be close to Mac.
When the base is attacked, Caitlyn is injured, but doesn’t realize it until the rush is over. With a concussion and stitches she is sent to rest for twenty-four hours. Ryder some how finds himself watching over her, he couldn’t stay away.
Caitlyn needs to find a way to explain everything that went through her mind after his declaration of love. However with things heating up in the area, they never seem to get the chance for the privacy needed for that discussion.
I couldn’t put this one down, so much going on and so much pain both emotional and physical. Both wanting more but cautious. I really loved the slow build and the patience Ryder shows.
I am already reading Macklin, as it’s next in this three book collection.
I’m really enjoying this SEAL series.
Ryder and his buddies are constantly in danger, this story is their action overseas and romance on the side. Caitlyn is not a fave of mine, she actually annoyed me for some reason.
These two characters were friends for many years and suddenly lovers which split them apart. Two years later found them enjoying a second chance romance. There was plenty of action in the desert including kidnapping.
A well written novel of the horrors of war and the joy of love.

I have enjoyed every book I have read by this author.
very good
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
Dang I love Ryder (okay I love all of Ms. Mayer’s SEALs.) I had a hard time understanding Caitlin though. I don’t know if it is because I’m older or what. There were several scenes where she tried to explain herself but it made no sense to me. I did overlook it though as it was a major part of the story. The story unfurled like a action movie to me though. There is just enough description that I was able to to picture the scenes and fill in. Besides my one issue with the story, I loved it and hated to see it end. One good thing about this series, prior characters show up. I don’t have to say good-bye to my book friends (or at least I do until the next book and I can’t wait!!!!!)
I have all his books, and one on preorder. Loved them all. Actin packed and entertaining.
Most of the books written by Dale Mayer are very easy to read, characters are very likeable (maybe too good?) but I find her books very enjoyable and relaxing even with the suspense that give it that extra something I look for in books. found myself reading one after the other, often ignoring all the other books in my library which I can’t wait to read.
I love this action packed romantic novel. Lots of suspense.
Romance and Suspense – Will love be more than they both can handle?
The majority of Ryder’s story is set in the dusty, desolate battlefields of IRAQ. Amid the heat of battles for this Seal and his Team, the tense operations of a MedicalTrauma team, and rebel forces continuing their fight for supremacy, desperate for medical supplies at any cost – this book delivers a friendship to romance journey, with lives at stake.
Amidst the suspense filled backdrop of war, Dale Mayer brings two life long friends together. Their platonic friendship marred by heartbreak and misunderstandings following a brief romantic interlude. Both Ryder and Caitlin, will discover just what it will take to move beyond the confines of that lifetime friendship into something more.
Especially for Caitlin, as she delves into her feelings and who she is as an individual, to fully understand her relationship with Ryder. She wades her way through her murky feelings about past relationships and her emotional being, in the search for answers. Sometimes, in that search, we do things that are out of character, are reckless and a little scary, because we just don’t know the right words to express ourselves. One thing you can count on, the SEAL community surrounds its friends and supports their loved ones 100%, to avoid disaster. That’s FAMILY.
Ryder… quintessential Navy Seal – always ready, always there to help, tough, dangerous yet understanding and caring. His heart has been shaken, shattered and hurt by the one person who should have been there right from the start. He has a beautiful demeanor, even though he is hurting bad inside. He doesn’t let the bad affect his duty to his team.
One thing I loved about both characters was their personal introspection on not only their friendship – that sometimes we aren’t always on the same page at the same time, we make mistakes and we don’t always have the answers, but also the ravages of war and how it affects those fighting, how it affects our attitudes and the questions of why would a nation want to hurt its own people. It’s answers that are hard to fathom.
Will love be more than they both can handle, without further destroying a friendship on the mend?
Will communicating openly and honesty drive them further apart?
Will the desperation of a country’s rebel forces tear them apart?
Will they live long enough to realise the potential of their love?
If you love page turning, romance and dramatic suspense/intrigue, what are you all waiting for? Dale Mayer delivers this and more. You also get a sneak peek into the next story… Mac will find himself in a boatload of drama and trouble. I can’t wait!
