The first book in the ‘Alaska Force’ series is an engaging and suspenseful read that draws readers in and refuses to let go. The strong, compelling characters are easily connected to and readers can’t help but enjoy the gruff Navy SEAL Blue Hendricks that tries his best to keep his distance from the spunky Everly. The chemistry is positively electrical and the emotions are wrenchingly gripping as this couple try to determine just what happened to Everly’s roommate. However, the relationship has a bit of an obstacle in regards to Blue’s past and the angst that stems from it, keeping the happily ever after in question throughout.
The whole group of military men in a remote Alaska wilderness captures readers’ imaginations and sends hearts pounding from the very beginning as the author sets up a smorgasbord of temptation for books in this series. In this one, the plot is steady paced and full of suspense that keeps the anticipation building and as the danger escalates so does the adrenaline pumping excitement. And with a couple of stunning twists, throws everything the reader thought completely out the door in this fascinating and exhilarating romance.
There are so many things I love about this book. Hot, brooding hero, a fantastic secondary cast, a mystery you can never quite see where it’s going, and one of my favorite parts is the town of Grizzly Harbor—the small, isolated Alaska town is like a character in its own right.
Excellent read and a great start to a new series.
She’s in a killer’s sights! With the first book in the Alaska Force series, we get the story of former Navy SEAL Blue and a childhood friend who comes to him for help. The characters were interesting and there was a lot of potential in this story, but unfortunately it fell flat of developing an edge of my seat excitement that this reader needs to enjoy a romantic suspense. If you’re looking for a small town romance feel with a hint of mystery then this is the story for you!
Everly Campbell unwittingly finds herself in a dire situation. She’s sure she witnessed her roommate being murdered and saw the faces of the men doing it, but the police are telling her there are no signs of anything happening in their apartment and suspecting her of wrong doing! She finds herself running to a remote Alaska town hoping to find help from a man she hasn’t seen in years, but is rumored to have the ability to rescue her from this nightmare!
Former Navy SEAL Blue Hendricks has only been re-introducing himself to civilian life for a few months now and as luck would have it, the stories of finding a home with an unsanctioned team of ex-military men in Grizzly Harbor, Alaska came true. He doesn’t want to see someone from his past, and he sure doesn’t want to head back to his hometown in order to help her uncover the mystery surrounding her … but he can’t say no to the fear and desperation on her face!
Oh My!!! I thoroughly loved reading Blue and Everly’s story in SEAL’s Honor by Megan Crane, book one in her Alaska Force series. I knew returning to civilian life was difficult for many military personnel but Blue gives us an in-depth look of how challenging it was for him to stop being a SEAL. After six months in Alaska, being a member of Alaska Force, he has been tracked down by the younger sister of an old friend, Everly, who is in desperate need of help. Everly is no longer the little girl Blue remembers, but a grown up, vibrant woman who makes it difficult for Blue to ignore his attraction to her. Blue believes he is not good enough for Everly, especially after some of the things he’s done and seen as a SEAL.
Everly is desperate for help and for someone to believe she is not crazy. Her roommate was murdered, the body disappeared, the police don’t believe her, and Everly fears she might be next. Blue is her only hope. Blue agrees to help keep Everly safe, but is not happy about it or about returning to his hometown.
These two are amazing together. Everly stands up to Blue, understanding him like no one else. Blue is struggling to keep his mind focused on the task at hand and not the curves of Everly’s body. As the men get closer and closer to Everly, Blue will do anything he can to protect her, especially since he is finally thinking of her as his.
Ms. Crane wrote an emotional and moving story filled with sexual chemistry, fun dialogue, and endearing characters that is not to be missed. I highly recommend this book to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I enjoyed this book, although it did take me a while to get into it. At 336 pages, It took me about 90 pages to really get into the story. I think that was probably because of the backstory necessary to set everything up, but it did seem a bit tedious at times. Having said that, once I got into the story, I was in, hook, line and sinker, right to the end.
Everly Campbell is aftraid she is going crazy. Awakening during the night, she hears noises, and when she investigates, she sees 2 men in her roomates’ bedroom, and she is certain that Rebecca is dead, and that after they catch a glimpse of her, Everly will be next. Terrified, she escapes out the window, and runs to the police. When they return with her, there is no body, and no sign of Rebecca. The police infer she is crazy, and dismiss her. After sensing she is being followed, she remembers her brother’s childhood friend, Blue, who was a Seal, and is now civillian, but doing mostly the same things he did as a Seal. (Because he has no idea how to do normal.)
Fast forward to Alaska, where Everly drives to find Blue. (It is at about this point that the book picks up). The thrill ride of determining the real scenario in Everly’s apartment, and what to do about it, is as much fun as watching these two strike sparks off each other.
As I said, I found the beginning a bit slow, but I really enjoyed the book, and look forward to the next one in the sesries!!
Megan Crane’s new Alaska Force series begins with SEAL’s Honor. “You go to the edge of nowhere in a little fishing town in Alaska called Grizzly Harbor. Then you sit in a dive bar called the Fairweather until they find you.” Any book that starts this way is a book I definitely want to read. Crane hooked me from the very beginning with this line and didn’t let up the entire way. The romance and action blend seamlessly and I had trouble putting it down. I am all in for this new series and can’t wait for the next installment.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.
Megan Crane is so good with the broody heroes! I think Blue Hendricks has to be the broodiest I’ve read and he has reason to be.
There is a lot of anger and resentment Blue is holding in from his childhood. He enlisted as soon as he could but now that he is older and no longer at peak performance, he realizes his Seal days are over. He views himself as not fit for civilian life and finds himself lucky to stumble onto the Alaska Force.
Everly Campbell witnesses her roommates murder and no one believes her. She knows someone is following her and the only person she thinks can help her is her old childhood neighbor Blue. When she drives straight from Chicago to Alaska to seek him out, her reception isn’t very welcoming.
I love me a broody hero but man Blue was beyond! I’ve never read a hero so smothered in his own misery the way he was. It really showcased how much I loved Everly cause she handled him perfectly. It took a great deal to break him out of that cocoon but she never gave up.
All the guys in the Alaska Force, atleast the ones we are introduced to in this book, have me excited for the rest of the series. I love the big, tough men and you are definitely getting that in this series.
This book was action packed and the bonus is some romance happened too. I liked it because it kept me guessing it wasn’t just simple one plot story line.
Blue Hendricks is a retired Navy seal that is trying to readjust to the civilian world. He finds his way to a group of ex-military elite men that live in Alaska. He likes being isolated and not anywhere near his family. One day randomly part of his past drives up a dangerous road that not even he would take, her name is Everly Campbell. Everly used to be his next door neighbor and his friends sister. He is trying to forget all of his past and she is there for his help. Her roommate disappeared and the police consider her the main suspect. They don’t believe her that she woke up and saw her being murdered. She comes to Blue to help exonerate her. He does help her solve the mystery of her roommate.
I never did guess who orchestrated or committed the murder it was a shock to me.
I received this book from First to read in exchange for an honest review. The opinions in this review are 100% my own.
SEALs Honor (Alaska Force, #1) was a great read by Megan Crane. Blue is a former Navy SEAL who hasn’t had an easy red try into life as a civilian. He now lives in Alaska and is part of Alaska Force. His old friend’s kid sister, Everly, finds him and gets him in the middle of a murder investigation. Everly’s roommate is murdered and her body vanishes. She fears that she is next and goes to Alaska to get Blue’s help. I really enjoyed reading Blue and Everly’s story and can’t wait to read more by the author.
Seal’s Honor is a good mix of mystery and romance. Blue is a good example of the attitude and troubles faced by many exmilitary.
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I’m very impressed! It was fast paced and very exciting. I can’t wait for the next book in the series to come out so I can continue the journey! Thanks for the great read Megan!
Isn’t there just something fabulous about a broody, wounded former SEAL who has to guard a former neighbor that had a crush? And this one had a crush on him as a child, and as an adult she’s being chased by unknown thugs after she thinks she witnessed a murder.
The heat that Blue keeps denying (hah, good luck) practically sets the pages on fire. The chemistry between Blue and Everly is great, and there are some fabulous action scenes – and some with more heat than expected!
This first book in the Alaska Force Series was the first book that I have read by this author. It definitely won’t be the last. I thoroughly enjoyed this fast-paced romantic suspense thriller. The characters were well-written and believable. I look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.
I really liked this read, a fun flawed big hearted Hero , with a cool name Blue , who just wants to live his life , do his job and be left alone.Everly a childhood neighbor shows up out of nowhere running for her life , needs his help when no one will believe her that her roommate was murdered ,he does.Despite his best effort not only will be have to find the killer but protect his own heart .
A romance with a lot of action, as the protagonist and her protector race to find out who is trying to kill her before they succeed. This is part of a series, but I read it as a standalone and had no difficulty understanding anything. The setting was partly in Alaska but mostly in Chicago, so I was a little disappointed not to see more of Alaska through the eyes of the Alaska Force Team. I did enjoy the strength of Everly and Blue and how they both had weaknesses that they other one completed. Fans of romantic suspense will enjoy the book.

I read this book as part of Brenda Novak’s book club, and I’m glad I did. I’ve found some amazing author’s by reading the BN book of the month. This was a great story with retired SEAL Blue and his childhood neighbor Everly. He carried a lot of emotional baggage from his childhood and military career, and she seemingly fell in love with him at 7 even though she didn’t even know what that was. Everly went looking for Blue after her life derailed with the possible murder of her roommate. She was coasting through life but not really living it, and then her life totally changed. She went looking for Blue, her neighbor when she was a child, to help her since he had been a SEAL. Everly was not what Blue expected, was tougher than he thought, and never reacted as he thought she would. Blue was everything Everly thought, but he continually tried to push her away and hurt her with words. The words hurt, but both knew it was really because he cared too much. His feelings for her and people were obvious in his actions despite what he said. I thought Everly was very witty, especially in her sarcastic responses to Blue. This story made me laugh and cry because their emotions and those of their families were so strong and deep. They both came alive and started truly living once they acknowledged their love. I was so happy everything worked out at the end. I loved the story so much that I bought the rest of the series and pre-ordered the next in the series.
All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Repost of my original review at Amazon.com.
I read this book as part of a book club. It is not my usual go-to type of book. I enjoyed it very much, so I maybe need to expand my genres.
The story is full of intensity, which made it a page turner for sure. I think the plot was somewhat believable, except the beginning since there was no explanation to how the main female character found the main male character in Alaska, but I had to let that go and just go with the story as it unfolded.
I’ve had this novel, the first in Megan Crane’s Alaska Force series sitting on my bookcase waiting for me to catch up on advance reader copies of other books–but I’ve finally caught up and had the time to read it, and it is a very good start to a new series, with only a few minor issues for this reader, and it gets 4 stars.
Blue Hendricks is a retired Navy SEAL, now living in Grizzly Harbor, Alaska and working with other men like himself for Alaska Force, former military men who left the service, couldn’t quite figure out what to do as civilians, but found their mission in Alaska by forming Alaska Force. Blue is everything you want in an alpha hero, although he hates being called a hero and hasn’t been home to see his family in 20 years, and has ever got a huge chip on his shoulder and issues where his mother and stepfather are concerned.
Everly shares a small apartment in Chicago with a gal named Rebecca, and wakes up in the middle of night to see her roommate being murdered by a couple of thugs. Once they spot her, she’s out the window and down the fire escape. When she reports what she saw to the police, they don’t take her seriously, especially when she takes them back to her apartment and Rebecca’s body is gone, as are the thugs, and there doesn’t even appear to have been any kind of struggle–nothing seems to be in disarray. Everly even drew their photos for the police, who still did nothing.
As a child, Everly idolized the older boy who lived across the street–Blue Hendricks, and after remaining in her apartment, terrified that the thugs will return to kill her too, she decides to get into her car and drive to Alaska, find Blue and ask him to help her. To call Blue surly is putting it mildly, and the reason I didn’t give this novel 5 stars is Blue. He’s cold, standoffish, and an iceberg in human form. When he finally agrees to help Everly, it’s not out of the goodness of his heart, and I was offended by him constantly and dismissively calling her “little girl,” although that didin’t stop him from being attracted to her.
Once Blue and Everly return to Chicago the somewhat slow opening of this novel, as Everly tried to get Blue to help her, soon picks up speed as he agrees to help and they return to Chicago, where the two of them try to figure out whether Rebecca is really dead, why there are a few text messages purportedly from her that sound nothing like her, and let’s not forget the thugs who want to kill the only witness to whatever they did to and with Rebecca, and they want to find out why Everly’s attempts to reach Rebecca’s mother by phone and text either go directly to voice mail and remain unanswered.
In large part this well-written novel is quite a whodunit, with an ending that came as quite a surprise to this reader. Combine a murder, a mystery, danger around every corner and Ms. Crane has written one taut, suspenseful story with well-drawn characters, and eventually an HEA ending, although but I would have preferred a bit more romance. All in all, a good romantic suspense novel, and I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the Alaska Force series.
