As a former SEAL commander, Dex Carson had participated in more than his share of rescues. When called upon to lead a multi-agency team into the Virgin Islands National Park jungle to rescue high value targets, he knew he was headed for trouble. Ten teenage girls—whose parents were members of Congress—and their chaperones, needed saving from kidnappers. He cringed. The thought of entitled … children and diva mothers made him clench his teeth. When he saw she was on his team, he was ready to quit. His heart couldn’t take it. But a SEAL never quits.
At forty-two, Rayne Yoshida felt too old to go tromping through the jungle after the Speaker of the House’s new wife. The recalcitrant prima donna had slipped her usual Secret Service protection and followed her sweet-as-sugar stepdaughter to the Caribbean on a student work/adventure trip. But as Agent in Charge of the Speaker’s detail, she had to go. Her mood darkened when she saw their team leader, the bull-headed, bossy, but oh so sexy, Dex Carson. They had history…that had almost gotten her fired.
With a category five hurricane bearing down on the tiny island, they only have days to find and rescue the girls and their chaperones…and keep their hands off each other.

I loved tis book. I wish I’d been a blessed to stay up late enough to finish it but next day I dove right in. You will love the characters and the story will grab yu from the first page. Do not miss this.
Dynamic and action-packed romance! A fantastic addition to the Silver SEALs Series.
Action and suspense flow the whole way through this quite tense read, if its not from the chemistry between the two lead characters then its the main plot. The only downfall to these stories is I end up buying a ton more books, great for the authors but not so good for my purse. An edge of your seat read but oh so well worth it.
Absolutely amazing! Well done, KaLyn!
Another great addition to the Silver SEALs world!
Dex and Rayne together again
I think these reads just keep getting better. This one grabs you up, like in a vortex and just doesn’t let up until the mission is finished. Their 2nd chance journey is so well written, with enough seeming reality to be believeable. I was going thru the emotions right along with all the characters, seeing, hearing and feeling what they were, as intended, no matter the scenario.
When children are involved, it’s double the feels all the time and I couldn’t put it down.
This one had all the right stuff for me and read too fast lol. I’m ready for more Guardian Elite from Ms.Cooper and more Silver Seals from all the suspense sisters
Dex just wanted to enjoy his retirement and get some fishing done. However a opportunity comes up the catch a bad guy who got away from Dex and he knows he needs to tie up this lose end. When he learned who will be on his team, he is very happy until an addition is added. A woman who he tangled with years ago has worked her way onto his team. The doesn’t make him happy however his body doesn’t agree.
Rayne is a woman who made a mistake years ago and had to switch career paths. When her charges are captured she knows she will do anything get get them back. Even team up with the man that cost her her job. Sparks still fly when they get together and they both have to remind themselves that they don’t like the other.
This book was very suspenseful and it had you on the edge of your seat. The chemistry between Dex and Rayne jumped off the pages. I also really liked the mention of Alex and the rest of the team.
I have come to love this series, and this story did not disappoint me.
If you are new to the series, it centers around Bone Frog Command, a division of Homeland Security that is super secret, and led by a former SEAL, Silas Branson. When a mission needs some form of black ops , he recruits former SEALs that have excelled in their career. This time it’s Commander Dex Carson who is called out of retirement . His mission is to lead a team to rescue a group teenage girls , and their chaperones that have been kidnapped by a known terrorist. A terrorist that escaped his former team in a mission in Nigeria.
Little did he know that Rayne Yoshida, a lover he believed betrayed him and is now the Secret Service protection for one of the kidnapped girls, is part of his team.
The sparks ignite between them, but also the feelings of betrayal.
The story is action packed, filled with bad guys, hunky good guys, a hurricane hindering their rescue , and of course , romance.
Another good addition to this entertaining series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Dex and Rayne worked together in Nigeria to bring down a terrorist. They spent one fabulous night together. They both almost lost their careers over it.
Dex is retired now but still thinks about Rayne. He has been called up to rescue kidnapped teens and sponsors. These teens are daughters of politicians. Rayne is personal Security for the head of the house. His daughter and wife are among those who were kidnapped. She will have to work with Dex.
Can they free the hostages? Will Dex and Rayne work through their feelings?
Great addition to the series. In this book, Dex and Rayne are sent to rescue the kidnapped daughters of members of Congress. The question is, why were they kidnapped? Was it a random act or was there a reason for their kidnapping? And why did Speaker’s house insist on joining the trip at the last minute? Since the kidnapping happened on a small island, it shouldn’t be hard to find them? Or will it?
4.5 Stars
SEAL in a Storm , the fifth book in the Guardian Elite series, is a sweet blend of the ex-military alpha working for a civilian security team, a second chance/enemies to lovers’, romantic suspense story.
Dex Carson is a retired SEAL Commander enjoying his boat fishing and relaxing. He takes the occasional job with Guardian Elite Security a group of men and women who take the dangerous jobs that the government can’t for one reason or another. Dex is surprised at the initial briefing to find a former one-night stand, Rayne Yoshida. When they met on a mission, years ago, both Rayne and Dex felt there might be something more until they felt betrayed by the other person.
This is the perfect book for me. I love that Dex and Rayne are in their forties. This couple has a deep connection, and even though they still smart from the betrayal, they both act like adults and move forward. Rayne is now a member of the Secret Service and responsible for the Speaker of the House whose daughter and wife are hostages held by a terrorist group. Rayne can’t alienate Dex as she needs to be in on the mission. Dex knows Rayne has skills that he needs and, even though he is concerned about her personally he believes she will be professional.
If you have read any of Kalyn Cooper’s books, you know that she writes from the heart of a military wife. SEAL in the Storm is a fast-paced, action thriller. It is filled with the ups and downs of a mission that doesn’t resolve quickly or as expected. To add to the suspense of the planning, execution, and delays of finding and retrieving the hostages; a massive hurricane is headed their way. The mixture of a hostage situation and a potential romance is just right. I recommend this new Kalyn Cooper story. Her writing is superb. Her knowledge and research of the mission allow the reader to fall into the middle of the action, and the super-fine characters are well developed and interesting. All-in-all, SEAL in the Storm is a believable, realistic portrayal of men and women in this career.
“SEAL in a Storm” (Silver SEALS Book 5) by KaLyn Cooper is a great read. I enjoyed Dex and Rayne’s story. This story is packed with action, suspense, military, romance, passion, twists and turns, second chances, and more. I’m looking forward to reading more books in the Silver SEALS series. Highly recommend to all fans of romantic suspense, military, and series.
ARC for honest review with no compensation 4.5 stars
SEAL in a Storm by Kalyn Cooper is book 5 in the Silver Seals series by various authors. So enjoying reading about all these Hot, Sexy Older men!!
Retired Seal Commander Dex Carson is called upon by Commander Silas Branson in charge of DHS multi task force, to lead a team to catch a notorious evil terrorist who has kidnapped 10 teenage girls who’s parents are members of Congress and 4 chaperones in the US Virgin Islands National Park jungle. What he doesn’t expect is to see Rayne Yoshida, Secret Service Agent and former lover from 12 yrs ago when they first went after the terrorist..
Can these two separate the past from the present while working to rescue these teenagers and their chaperones, keep old feelings buried and get back home before a hurricane hits the island??
Dex and Rayne were both great characters. Rayne was secret service and Dex was a retired SEAL who worked for Guardian Security. When the two go to rescue girls who were kidnapped there was lots of action and great chemistry. This story just flowed with characters that were well developed. I loved how Callie one of the kidnapped kids was a strong secondary character. This is definitely a great read and a keeper. Rayne is a strong woman and involved from the beginning with the rescue. Loved it!!
What a fabulous story with two incredibly interesting characters! Rayne Yoshida and Dex Carson have a history and now they must work together to rescue a group of young girls and their chaperones. The action was evenly placed, the storyline was interesting and most of all the characters were strong, dynamic and incredibly likeable. I’m not sure what is more volatile….the rescue effort or the insanely hot chemistry between Dex and Rayne.
I loved Rayne because she is as tough, resilient dedicated and well trained. She knows what she wants and is not afraid to go after it. Dex Carson didn’t get to be a SEAL commander by being misinformed, unprepared or dispassionate. Together along other elite team members, Dex and Rayne accomplish their mission and get their man.
I will say that I was very disappointed by the number of formatting, grammar, spelling and punctuation errors in the book. They really disrupted the flow of the story several times. If the story had not been so good I would have rated this book two stars. I cannot give it five stars for those stated reasons.
This was a anticipated one to get into that filled my craving for a Seal. This author knows how to give great characters with scrumptious stories that bring them to life and you disappear in their worlds. This one was not exception it delivered Dex whom deals with Rayne with some exhilarating stuff. They have to learn how to mesh to be successful with this one giving us their all including suspense and action. Bring on the heat also but you will ride with them as things come to a head with you getting all the goodness.
Dex Carson and Rayne Yoshida have not a too happy history together, but 12 years later their chemistry is still there and amidst the danger and desperation of their mission, they may just find more than they expected. This is a moving, gripping romantic suspense, filled with edge of your seat drama, heart-wrenching moments, and hot, steamy passion. The characters and storyline are engaging and will keep you involved from beginning to end. It’s a wonderful addition to the Guardian Elite series, and I highly recommend this amazing love story!
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every Seal book in this series and this was no exception. Altho Kalyn Cooper is a new author for me I was hooked from the beginning. Dex and Rayne were quite the explosive characters. The storyline was emotional an heartbreaking as well. This high octane adventure was well written and had enough drama, angst and love to keep me entertained all the way thro. I’ll definitely read more from this author in future. Great book
An 2nd chance love story, an emotional rescue a sadistic evil terrorist known for his treatment of people, especially women and trying to protect their hearts from long ago hurts…this is a page turning, heart thumping awesome love story.
I have truly been enjoying this series. So far each of the participating authors has done a great job writing stories in this DEAL world, but with their own spin. This is also true with this newest one. This book is action packed and keeps you on your toes from beginning to end. The romance is just an added bonus and only adds to the story.
