Thid was one of the best action-adventure books that I’ve ever read
10++++ stars.
This book literally left me drowning in a sea of ruin. Sea of Ruin is epic, phenomenal, magnificent and truly one of the best books I’ve read this year.
“Love isn’t a decision. It arrives unannounced, breeds madness, and leaves a sea of ruin in it’s wake.”
Pam Godwin transports readers to the 1700’s where pirates ruled the seas. The scenes were intense, deep, steamy, dark and gritty. I felt every emotion and was on the edge of my seat with every chapter. Overall, this story is epic, simply a masterpiece! Pam Godwin nailed this historical romance! There is no helpless, virgininal lady, we have one fierce heroine and two ruthless alphas.
If you’re not a fan of historical romance, it doesn’t matter because this book will be the game changer for you.
My top read of 2020!
This book is a real treasure!!
Dark, rich and complex story full of pirates, treasures and much much more!
Not only did the author flawlessly craft a beautiful story, but the vivid imagery, and unique storyline had me captivated from beginning to end…this was storytelling at its best!
It is guaranteed to make you a historical romance lover!
Two pirates, a pirate hunter and a compass took me on a magical journey full of twists and unexpected events that had me thinking about the story, way after I finished. Searching for a compass led these characters into an adventure that was intense, thrilling and full of surprises.
Feral Priest, Aristocratic Ashley and the Queen of the sea Bennet Sharp are some of the best characters that come to life in a book.
Brimming with passion, humor, and a unique blend of sensuality I fell in love with these characters and they will stay with me for a long time.
A the end… this is a story of love, discovery and forgiveness!
Holy wow this is unforgettable, dark and delicious fast paced action packed dark romance. This totally consumes you from the first page Pirates written in the perfect way the words just flow so easily through the pages you can picture and feel every single one.
Bennett Sharp is fierce and I loved everything about her and what she stood for, such strong detailed written characters that will take you on a wild ride, this is a true masterpiece.
Oh my goodness, I loved this book so much! Dark romance with PIRATES?? Yes please!! This was an action packed, fast moving, dark romance that I fell in love with! You’ve got a really strong heroine in the book, plus you find yourself torn between two very sexy, very different heroes, or anti heroes, as the case may be! If you told me I had to choose between Priest the pirate, and Ashley the pirate hunter, I wouldn’t be able to do it!
Pam Godwin wrote a thoroughly captivating story, with a world you can easily picture and characters you can’t help but fall in love with. Once you start this book, it’s impossible to put it down! I highly recommend it!!
Absolutely Phenomenal Story!
“Love isn’t a decision. It arrives unannounced, breeds madness, and leaves a sea of ruin in its wake.”
This is a brilliantly written and utterly phenomenal story! From the very first page until the very last I was hooked. I never wanted this amazing story and its fantastic characters to end. It took me on an adventure full of pirates, battleships, depravity, murder and mayhem. It kept me on the edge of my seat completely breathless with anticipation and the intense need to know what would happen next. This is a wild ride of epic proportions. A story not to be missed!
Bennett is the most amazing and kickass pirate I have ever read about. She’s witty, sassy, fierce and utterly loyal to a fault. There were many times she had me laughing out loud with her antics and crying (the ugly cry) over the situations she finds herself in. Priest and Ashley are also fantastic characters that you can’t help falling in love with. They are both sexy, domineering and full of passion.
“I can’t seem to make sense of you. It’s easy, Commodore. Just think of the smartest man you know, remove all the hauteur and bigotry, and add a larger pair of testicles.”
Each amazing character in this story is so well written and developed that the storyline flows so effortlessly and the story pulls you making you feel like you are on an actual pirate adventure.
This story is just so breathtaking with lots of surprises and twists you would never see coming. At certain times in the story you will be shocked to the core and gasping for breath! This is definitely one story that I will be reading again and again. It’s an adventure that I want to continue to go on!
Bravo, Pam Godwin, Bravo!!!
Filled with intrigue, passion and love! Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic’s Read
This is a different type of book for me. Sea of Ruin is filled with so much detail. If you want a book filled with list, love, betrayal, hate, intrigue, strength and passion… this is your book. Our story starts with a fourteen year old girl with a love so deep for her father you feel she would be complete in her life, and she is. But circumstances change, love is lost and destiny is achieved.
Bennett, Priest and Ashley all have their own tales but to find their happiness they all have tears of history all unconsciously rolling together to something utterly beautiful. This is definitely a dark romance with one happy ending! ENJOY!
Five Glorious Stars!
This story was a completely out of the box read for me! I have never read a historical pirate story so I have no comparison to another story to go by but what I did read was fantastic! I truly enjoyed the story and I thought the author did a great job on the usage of words and lingo that would be used during that time. It was what I would expect. The author created a great storyline and it just got better from there. There were some dark elements to the story which is something I’ve come to expect from this author. So I am happy the author didn’t stray too far from her roots. The author definitely gave us some fantastic twists and turns to the story. I didn’t see those coming whatsoever! This is a longer story. I thought some parts went on longer than what I would have preferred. Overall, it was a really great, unique story! I’m glad I stepped outside my normal reading and tried something new because this story did not disappoint!
“Sea of Ruin” is a epic journey of fighting for love. This story is not your typical love story. It is original and unconventional. This story took me to places of the heart that were heartbreaking, were shocking, were gutting, and were capturing. All the characters had a depth that connected me to the journey of “Sea of Ruin.” The book was long but it needed to be. I actually felt some parts could of been explained better, they felt rushed. Other then that Pam’s story opened my mind and heart to a story of uniqueness and understanding. In the end Pam writes a voyage worth taking.
Oh wow Pam Godwin! It’s repetitive to say that with her every book I’ve read but seriously, Sea of Ruin? WOW!
First time she announce a dark historical pirate call Sea of Ruin, my lady parts already jumping in excitement! I know it’s gonna be good. I know it’s gonna make me loose my sleep. I know it’s gonna make me scream to my book buddies to READ IT! but lawwwwd have mercy! Sea of Ruin still make me gasp out loud for the unexpected turn and Twist.
And just to make your mouth water, I’ll give a little spoiler. Sea of Ruin have Bennet Sharp, the She-Pirate Captain. Yes you read it right. Bennet is a woman who is a captain of her own pirate ship.
One Priest Farrel, a Libertine, scandalous rake, famous skirt chaser, a raider, a cunning smooth tongue who can make sailors betrayed their captain and take over the ship.
And one Commodor of British Naval, Lord Ashley Cutler. Cold, cunning, vicious, cruel dominant with Savage streak in his royal blood.
Old British language (I call it that cause I don’t know what to call it) definitly bring us back in time. Which is one of my fav thing to have in every hisrom for their language aren’t the same like modern language.
And lots of lots ship terms that just making me have to stop reading at first to Google what it means or what they look like. But then it become rapid and I just could care to Google cause the way Pam write just put you in the middle of the action. I feel like I don’t need to know what they mean or look for I can feel the atmosphere Pam created so easily. If that make sense??
Now, if you’ve read King of Libertines in the Australia anthology, you’ll know how Bennet and Priest meet. But honestly, if you haven’t, you wont miss much.
But since I’ve read it, I’m being a snob when start reading Sea of Ruin and thought I know what’s gonna happen. I forgot who’s book I’m reading
But lawd oh lawd the unexpected turn definitly worth celebrated!
It’s dark. Scary and nauseating twisted dark. The worst can happen to a woman even to a she-pirate.
It’s hawwwt as in wow my lady parts wants some action too!
It’s sweet at times when finally! Finally! it’s spoiler if I say more than that
Finally, what would you give to have the most precious thing in life?
What would you give to have that once in a lifetime love and happiness ?
If you were to ask me my favorite dark romance authors, Pam Godwin would be at the top of my list. When I saw that she was writing a dark historical romance about pirates, I couldn’t think of a better author to tackle something a story like this. And that cover! Wow! I wanted to read this just because of that gorgeous cover.
Anyway, I’m not going to get into too many details, the summary handles that. There’s a very strong heroine in this story, if that is your thing, and some terrific dialogue. It hasn’t always been an easy journey to get to where she’s at. Of course she has two heroes to fall for her in this unique love triangle, so I expected hot and steamy and that’s what I got.
As usual, there’s twists and turns and a plot that comes together like fine tapestry. There are also some surprises along the way. Sea of Ruin is a standalone, but there is a short story in the Australia anthology that you might enjoy along with this story.Sea of Ruin is lusty and erotic and the relationships aren’t the usual sort. If you are looking for something hot and steamy with engaging and unique characters, this might be for you.
Hold on to your three corner hat for this one! I didn’t know how I would feel about a woman pirate captain but I had every faith in Pam Godwin to bring me a story that would keep me turning pages into the wee hours of the morning. This story not only had me on the edge of my seat ( hello? Pirates and Royal Navy) but had me wanting to rip out every male’s tongue from putting her through what they do. The only one I didn’t was her father. The flow of this story was fantastic as I was so floored when things were revealed. You won’t see it coming. Loved it more than I can say and 5 stars are not enough to do this justice.
Pure Pirating Perfection! Pam Godwin could write a phone book and I would read it. I have read everybook this wonderful author has written and just when I think I have my favorite she goes and writes a beautiful Historical Pirate Romance! OMG! This book will be hands down my favorite read of 2020.
Bennett is a lady of breeding. She is beautiful, she is cunning, she is smart! Her only downfall is loving a man called Priest. Bennett feels that she has been betrayed and this betrayal leads us to the heart of this intense story. Bennett allows herself to be captured by Commodore Ashley. Well this leads to more complications… More drama.. more pillaging! The chemistry between these three characters is smoking hot and leaps off the page. I do not know how to properly review this stellar book. This book has everything you could want in a book and its so hard to properly put into words how much I loved it. The twist we get from these three amazing characters kept me glued to the pages. I cannot wait to read it again. Pam Godwin is the best out
Sea of Ruin by Pam Godwin. I have read most of her books and she tells so many different stories about so many different premises. All I have enjoyed. Some I have liked more than others. However she out did herself with this story. This is a pirate’s tale with a definite twist. Do read King of the Libertines which is a short story in the Australia Anthology book. The story introduces us to 2 of the main characters in this book. Bennett is the illegitimate daughter of a disgraced noblewoman and a notorious pirate. Her love of adventure and the sea has her at odds with her mother. When tragedy strikes Bennett’s real adventure begins. We follow her as she navigates following in her father’s footsteps, her love of the king of the libertine and her experience with a pirate hunter. A spectacular story that I could have never seen coming. There was so much to this story that my emotions were all over the place. When I didn’t thnk this story could get any better it did. No a typical pirate story. It is hard to put into words all the good elements to this story. This story was gritty and grimy. It was also a love story as well a story of hurt. This story was violent at times. Sexy at times with some kink that would have some people blushing. More than just fluff, a real story. I was even happier when I saw there is going to be another book. 5 swashbuckling stars.
Sea of Ruin is not your typical historical romance.
For fans of Pam Godwin’s work, this latest book will further confirm why she is the queen of dark romance. She illustrates her expertise in taking a story of pirates but adding the dark and complex storyline, which has become a hallmark of her writings. The story centers around the Bennett Sharp, the challenges of being a fearless female pirate captain and the men in her life.
The author’s description of Priest Farrell is so vivid that one can only imagine swooning because of his Welsh accent. The introduction of Lord Ashley Cutler and how his character evolves captivated this reader until the very end. As with her other books, Ms. Godwin provided brutally honest events which females during that time may have encountered. While those scenes may make readers uncomfortable, she does not gloss it over and it only serves to support the concept that it truly takes a strong person to be a leader. Interspersed with these graphic scenes were some smoldering steamy scenes between the characters.
Even if historical romances are not your normal trope, like a siren, Pam Godwin will draw you into Sea of Ruin, destroy you and take you along this majestic adventure. For a few hours, you will be held spellbound in this high seas journey.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.
Bennett Sharp is on the run. Wanted for piracy, she fears neither God nor death, nor man. Except Priest Farrell. The unfaithful, stormy-eyed libertine hunts her with terrifying possessiveness. Oh my gosh where is the million star button when you need it. Now I have to say that if you are not a fan of pirates or historical romances you need to put that aside and dive into this book. You won’t think of it as either type of romance. It is Pam Godwin greatness and no on wants to miss that at all, ever!!! This book will leave you breathless and wanting it to never end. I swear I could have stayed in this story for days and days on end and never gotten tired of it. And hello who isn’t going to love a bad butt female character who is also following in her fathers footsteps and is a Pirate and not just a Pirate but a Captain of her own ship. Bennett is one of the strongest female characters that there has ever been. I loved her so much. I swear no other person can survive what Bennett is about to go through. Then there is Priest Farrel who holy cow would melt the panties off anyone right along with Lord Ashley Cutler. Bennett is the luckiest woman alive. I must say this book is pure perfection. It is all kinds of dark and gritty and I nearly cried. My heart ached, it broke and I was beyond shocked at thing. You won’t see the twist and turns coming and I swear while reading this I messaged my friend Carla and told her I was about to go get me a pirate ship hit the sea and go kick some pirate butt!!!! That is how invested my heart was in this book. You do not want to miss this one. If you do your missing one of the best stories of the year and a book you will never ever forget.
AN EPIC SAGA OF PIRATES, LUST, AND TREASURE ON THE HIGH SEAS
“Love isn’t a decision. It arrives unannounced, breeds madness, and leaves a sea of ruin in its wake.”
Pirates…and plunder…and passion. Such a captivating departure for Ms. Godwin. All my senses just sprang to life with crackling energy from a period piece mixed with modern touches, the rowdy lifestyle of pirates, and language that kept me glued to the page, plus so many heart-dropping turns that wrenched the MCs from the frying pan into the fire.
What good can come from adventure on the high seas and an impossible romantic triangle? No heroine has ever faced such a cruel test of mettle and heart as a hot blonde lady pirate in an epic quest for love and treasure, while caught hopelessly between a notorious pirate and a ruthless pirate hunter. How to choose between the rakish “King of Libertines” and an enigmatic naval captain who lights her on fire. I cherished every moment of both the exceptional, fiercely protective, insanely seductive men in her life.
Cast aside any preconceptions about 18th Century pirates and the repressive role of women. None of that is here — just a no-holds-barred epic romance as turbulent as the sea, but where fate and destiny know no bounds amongst the vile deeds of men. It is as much a love saga, as an epic adventure where raw courage, selfless acts of love, resilience beyond comprehension, and vengeance won’t be denied. Three souls inextricably bound together, yet caught in an impossible situation. It was raw, dark, steamy and I FELT EVERYTHING.
I rode the waves and bed sheets with this trio and cheered them on from the sidelines. So rousing and exciting.
Omg, this book was more than I ever thought it would be and I thought it would be a great book! I was so captivated by this book. So many twists and turns that I never saw coming. Some I never even dreamed of. This book is my favorite book of this year! I fell so in love with these characters I didn’t want it to end. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!

Sea of Ruin is EPIC!!! Let’s me start by saying I am not always inclined to read historical romance novels. When I saw Pam Godwin had decided to pen such a book, I didn’t hesitate to jump in head first!! What I discovered what an EPIC read that took me through the perils of life on the high seas. The plot that encompasses this book does not disappoint. It is gritty, soul wrenching, and unequivocally erotic!!
Another confession…..it is a rarity that I EVER read a book more than once. Why? I tend to remember EVERYTHING contained in a story. So – I derive no pleasure from repeating a story. After gazing upon the last page of Sea of Ruin – I found myself immersed in wanting to feel the thrill of the adventure once more. So – I read it all over again! Then for thrills……I read it a third time. Seriously….this book is that GOOD!!! Add Sea of Ruin to your reader NOW!! Holy Smokes like no other pirate book I’ve ever read!
Is there any genre this author can’t go wrong in?!?
Everything l have so far read by her is pure gold.
Ms. Godwin has taken the pirate genre and has turned it upside down and inside out.
Sea of Ruin is a masterpiece!
Filled with suspense and drama on the high seas.
Passion and lust to the brim.
Characters that are intriguing and daring.
I absolutely loved and admired Bennett!
She is probably one of the most courageous heroines I’ve come across.
Priest is a sexy possessive scandral who you can’t not love.
Drifting from pirate ship to pirate ship but with Bennett always on his mind.
And Lord Ashley the principled unbending man.
That shows the world only a small layer of himself.
These three are incredible!
The vast backgrounds of each character is blended beautifully and perfect.
Each have their own strengths and invulnerabilities.
And the plot of this book is something I did not see coming!
It’s unpredictable and takes turns that are very imaginative.
It is intense and stunning.
There is so much wonderful things to say about it might I do not want to mistakenly give something away.
I was enthralled and totally captivated by everything about this book.
I always know to expect the unexpected by this outstanding author.
But she still manages to shock me!
I highly recommend this book.
But get comfortable, have a drink on hand or a few and prepare to sail the seven seas.
