Great beginning.
Exciting adventure. Kelia is strong, brave, determined, smart and a slayer. Drew Knight is a gentleman Sea Shadow and on the Slayer’s Most Wanted list. Then comes a fast paced adventure of murder, betrayal, intrigue, romance and determination. Drew and Kelia had such great chemistry from the beginning. I am so hyped up for this series I’m starting book 2.
Wonderfully fantastic… The book was amazing… It had a lot of details and juicy scenes to it… The characters and their personalities match them perfectly… The plot and the storyline was very descriptive and amazing…

This series was great. I couldn’t put it down. As usual Isadora Brown delivers a well written story with great characters. She’s one of my favorite authors and never disappoints. Written along with Rebecca Hamilton who also did a great job on this series!!

I loved this book! The characters were amazing and unique. The story line is one of a kind. Drew and Kelia are such passionate characters and I can’t wait for them to unite.

This book is an action and asked story full of suspense and danger. Kelia is a slayer who is taught all shadows are evil but what if what she was taught wasn’t the whole truth. The author weaves a story with a compelling plot that makes the reader turn the page just to see what happen next.

Growing up Kelia Starling was told that Sea Shadows needed to be killed but when she works with one to find her father’s murderer her opinion of them changes. Drew Knight is a Sea Shadow/Vampire of the Sea, and not at all like what Kelia was told they would be like. Intriguing story and interesting characters make this a great series starter. I am definitely looking forward to reading the rest of The Vampire Pirate Saga.
Some parts interesting, some parts a bit stilted. The characters are intriguing enough but definitely not mature. A huge cliffhanger at the end. Wouldn’t necessarily call this a romance…more a romantic fantasy.
Sea of Darkness is a very unique take on a very popular genre. Isadora Brown and Rebecca Hamilton’s world building is excellent. Not only did they create a new and original take on vampire cannon, but they also did their homework to keep with historical period.
I would have never thought of Vampire Pirates. I have to say the entire concept intrigued me from the start. I love the world Brown and Hamilton created with its rules and history. How Sea Shadows were created, including only being able to be on land at night, how they feed and more. I’m no expert on the historical period or pirate lore, but I loved the world they created. The Society and East India Trading Company as villains just make me smile. It’s so believable, the Cult they’ve created to try to manage the problem they created to begin with.
I very much enjoyed watching Kelia evolve as the story unfolds. She’s on the cusp of adulthood and making actual life choices. As her eyes are opened to The Society that she’s given her blind loyalty and trust her whole life, we see her resolve strength to find the truth.
Oh and what is there to say about Drew Knight, other than how do I get one? Is he really a monster? What’s his real agenda? What is his end game? Sea of Darkness is a thrilling opening to world I’m looking forward to exploring more of.
Sea Of Darkness is the first book in the Vampire Pirate Saga. The concept of vampires is well thought out and plotted. Really loved Drew Knight. I found the characters well developed and interesting. There is plenty of action. We are with Kelia on her road to find out what happened to her father whom she was told committed suicide which she does not believe. I highly recommend this book. I am really curious to see where we go from here. Received a copy from Hidden Gems and this is my voluntary and honest review.
I did enjoy this first book in this series. Vampire Pirates who could not like a book with those in them. Most of this book is in Kelia’s point of view and as she’s a Shadow Hunter she is told how bad Sea Shadows are and that she must kill them all. Kelia learns a lot about the Society she works. A lot of the information comes from her new friend Drew Knight, the biggest Sea Shadow there is. As Kelia is only 17 and I listened to the unabridged audiobook sometimes Kelia’s inner ramblings were hard to listen too. I also wonder if she’s too young to be paired with Drew and kind of wished she was at least a few years older. I did wish for more point of view from Drew and hope more will come in the series. Overall this was a good book and a good start to a new series.

This first book in the Vampire Pirate Saga by Rebecca Hamilton definitely has quite a cliff hanger for an ending, but before that, it is full of betrayal, mystery, suspense and intrigue. What is true? Who can be trusted? These are some of the main questions answered by the author as the tale is shared with the reader. The characters are put through some intense trials and tribulations to say the least, both physically as well as emotionally and mentally. Definitely looking forward to adding the next book to my TBR list. This is a voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Hidden Gems Books.
It was a slow start but ultimately I found it pulls the reader in giving you this understanding that it’s leading you somewhere…..: so not so boring…..Couldn’t help but fall for Mr Knight and the stubborn heroine Kelia; I didn’t lose sleep but I certainly had a time putting it down…or walking away….. ooooh secrets yet to be exposed as Kelia attempts to clear her fathers name no matter what happens to her……Recommend!!
I received this amazing book as an ARC for my honest opinion and review… HAPPY READING!!!
I love a good political intrigue plot. Add pirates and vampires and I’m a goner. I was immediately sucked in to all the twisty little mazes this story takes us through. To the point I completely lost track of how far into the book I was until I looked down and saw I was at 98% and nearly died. I wasn’t anywhere close to being ready for this book in Kelia and Drew’s story to be over already. There’s so much more I want to know, that we’re set up to learn in future installment, but I don’t have the answers yet. I’m hooked on this series and can’t wait to get my hands on the next books.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through Hidden Gems Books.
What an amazing first book to a series!!! I LOVE the concept, the characters … and the fantastic way the paranormal is weaved in throughout!!! Definitely high on my recommended list!!
A unique story that has me wanting more! I loved the adventure, intrigue, and possible romance! Looking forward to reading the rest of the series!
I absoustly loved this book fom start to finish . It is a real page turn fullmofmtwist and tense moments between pirate/vampire and slayer… it’s well written with great charcter build up. I definitely recommend this book and I can’t not wait to read the next in the series.
This is a great story and held my interest till the end! Kalia was a fantastic character and goes through a lot! Kalia is a Slayer and starts to doubt the Society that she is a part of. Drew is a Sea Shadow and is also a great character. Lots of action and mystery in this book with great characters. I loved it!! I need the next book!
I think readers ages 14 and up would enjoy this one.
Kelia is the main character. She is training to be a slayer. Slayers did the world of Sea Shadows. Kelia has been taught that Sea Shadows are unfeeling, uncaring, unintelligent beasts who only have a thirst for blood. Keila’s dad used to be a Slayer too, until one killed her mom, now her dad helps run the place. Sea Shadows are vampires who sail the waters because they burst into flames when their feet touch land, that’s what Kelia has been taught. Kelia comes back from a dangerous mission one night and her dad is acting odd, he asks her to meet with him alone because he has something he needs to tell her. Kelia goes to meet him, only he isn’t there, when she goes back to her room, she’s told her father had committed suicide. Kelia refuses to believe it and she starts to unravel the lies.
This book gives a little different take on vampires. Kelia is so stubborn, she is stupid, I’m not sure if that’s good or bad.
I’m not sure what it says about me, but the character that supposed to be the biggest and baddest, Free who is an older Sea Shadow, is my absolute favorite character! This book has a little is everything, so I’m not sure what more anyone can ask for. There is action, adventure, characters to love, characters to hate, characters to love to hate. The author weaves a story with a compelling plot that makes the reader turn the page just to see what happen next. The book is well written, and well edited.
RECOMMENDED
This book is so unique. Kelia is a Sea Shadow slayer aka vampires of the sea. when her father dies she learns of secrets that will make her rethink what she is doing is right. While trying to find out the truth of the secrets she starts a journey of all journeys. That ending was really interesting and I can’t wait to read book 2
