Borrowed Dreams:

Her only hope is a marriage of convenience with the notorious widower, Lyon Pennington, fourth Earl of Aytoun, who just may be the most handsome-and caring-man she’s ever encountered.
Captured Dreams:
May McGoldrick returns with the latest in a trilogy about love-and the birth of a nation…

This three-book set is only 99c right now, and contains two of my favorite May McGoldrick books! We’re discussing Borrowed Dreams this week over at the Book Brigade (https://bit.ly/2Ev0pTw) and I just finished reading Romancing the Scot (McGoldrick’s new series featuring the kids of the characters in Borrowed Dreams). HIGHLY recommended!
I’m also a big fan of The Dreamer (in this box set), so I know you’ll get plenty of bang for your buck!!
Memories of Emma and her mysterious death haunt the three Pennington brothers and their cousin, Walter. Each novel in this trilogy lends insight as to her personality and character. What motivated her plans? Was Emma successful in carrying them out? How did she create difficulties between family members?
Really enjoy the book series with connected characters
Enjoy anything written by these authors.
Great characters, great story line, good flow.
Terrific writing style easy to read authentic well researched history
I especially liked the female characters who were strong willed women who helped their mates over come adversity and bring the family back together.
Strong women make impacts on their own families as well as on society. The mystery from book one is solved at the end of the third book so be sure to read all three. New characters appear in each book that are all tied together through circumstances. I thoroughly enjoyed the trilogy.
I liked the continuing story of the Pennington Brothers. Each had his own story, but the whole was bigger than the sum of the parts. A satisfying read for romance lovers!
really enjoyed the stories
Borrowed Dreams – Wow! This book has a lot of things going for it and I am completely in love. This is my first May McGoldrick book I have read and I don’t know how I’ve never read any before now. I have been missing out. This husband/wife author duo make a fantastic team. The story is so well written and just seems so… I don’t know… honest? The story briefly touches on sensitive subjects such as slavery, rape, and abuse, and none of it is really sugar coated. Obviously this book is a work of fiction and only briefly touches on real subjects but it wasn’t glorified. The hero and heroine are very engaging characters and I rooted for them from the very beginning of the book. I loved the hero! I am a complete sucker for hero’s that have physical disabilities . I love when a hero isn’t so perfect and untouchable. He was a very warm and likeable character. The heroine was one of those beautiful inside and out characters that you can’t help but feel connected to her. There are a lot of other characters as well but it’s easy to follow and they all bring something special to the story. It was a very exciting read and was hard to put down. I highly recommend this book.
Captured Dreams by May McGoldrick is the second book in the Scottish Dreams trilogy. The first book was incredible and really hard to top but this one comes very close. I enjoyed this story for a lot of reasons, one of them being the heroine who had a very strong personality. Portia is lively and very charming character who had me laughing quite a bit. Pierce is an equally captivating character, who I’ve been intrigued by since his mention in the first book. I was not disappointed. Another reason I enjoyed this story is because I absolutely LOVE stories where characters make reappearances! It was nice hearing more about Millicent and Lyon. The story itself is well written and full of emotion but there are a couple areas didn’t didn’t flow as nicely as the rest of the book but it didn’t affect the story too much. I’m torn between giving 4 or 5 stars. Regardless it is a very entertaining story! If you’ve read the first and loved it as much as I did, you should definitely give this one a try too!! I would recommend reading them in order, for the full effect.
Dreams of Destiny is the final book in the trilogy and oh my goodness was it amazing! This one was hands down my favourite one out of all them!! There is something completely magnetic about David’s character. I couldn’t get enough, there wasn’t anything I didn’t like about him! Gwyneth was an amazing character too, they all were. It was enjoyable seeing it all come together and unfold. Very talented storytellers! I love that everyone who deserved a happy ending got one. My attention was fully captured. It was unpredictable, at times shocking, romantic, and completely riveting. Definitely a story I could read more than once! Fantastic book!
Couldn’t stop till all three were done.
Fun romances, tied together. Enjoyable reads.
In the first book, Lyon, Lord Aytoun, marries Millicent. They’d never met, and the bride was chosen by the Dowager Countess and her lawyer in an attempt to save Lyon’s life. In the second book, Pierce (Lyon’s brother) has taken up residence in Boston and is helping to arm the colonists in 1772. He marries Portia. In the third book David, the youngest brother, woos Gwyneth after he intercepts her on her flight to Graetna Green. The final character is Emma, Lyon’s first wife who died in a fall from the Scottish cliffs. All three brothers were scarred in some way by Emma, and each was implicated in her death. The first two books were wonderful, but the third was less well written. In the third, the authors experimented with the use of flashback memories, and the effect was more confusing than enlightening.
I would have given more stars However the misuse of some words and the lack of others in sentence structure, particularly in the last two books, was distracting and frustrating. Proofing a book does not just mean looking for typos but for complete sentences with all the necessary elements of a sentence.
