Aden MacTaggert is the middle son of a Scottish laird and an Englishwoman. He and his brothers must adhere to their estranged mother’s demands or lose their ancestral home. Aden is a proficient gambler. When Miranda Harris seeks his advice on gamblers, he agrees to help with her current plight. As they devise a way to free her from an unwanted marriage, Aden realizes Miranda is the woman he wants to marry. Can Aden outfox a career gambler intent on marrying Miranda? Or will he lose more than he bargained for?
Miranda Harris is society’s darling, respected and adored by her peers. Her brother is engaged to the only MacTaggert daughter. Miranda has an intense dislike for gamblers. To her dismay, she learns her brother offered her up as collateral for his gambling debts. Miranda approaches the only man with the skillset to help free herself. Aden, however, proves to be different than other gamblers. Will Miranda escape her unwanted future? Or will she be forced to marry a man she loathes?
Aden is such a treat! He has this infectious air about him that makes him so likeable. I adore Aden’s code of ethics when it comes to gambling. Aden has a set of rules he follows whenever he wagers. Also, he gambles out of fun not greed. What I love the most about Aden is his vulnerability towards anything, human or animal, in distress. He dislikes seeing either abused or taken advantage of. Aden cannot help but play knight-in-shining-armor.
At the beginning of the story, I did not care for Miranda’s personality. She came off too condescending and snobbish for my tastes. I understand her sentiments towards gambling and gamblers, yet that did not excuse Miranda’s behavior towards Aden. However, she did redeem herself as the book progressed. I like how Miranda noticed there was more to Aden than just his ability at wagering. What I admire about the most about Miranda is her determination to find a way out of the mess her brother put her in. She refused to be his sacrificial offering.
SCOT UNDER THE COVER is book two in Suzanne Enoch’s historical romance series, WILD WICKED HIGHLANDER. I love the fun and unique titles chosen for the books in this series. I hope the next novel continues to follow the trend. I like that the couple from book one, IT’S GETTING SCOT IN HERE, make appearances throughout the story.
SCOT UNDER THE COVER is a charming and enjoyable tale of the flaws of prejudging someone based on their hobbies. I could not help but smile and laugh through the book. I cannot wait to find out which society miss will snatch the oldest MacTaggert’s bachelorhood.
Review courtesy of Romance Junkies
Scot Under The Covers is a spectacular historical romance by Suzanne Enoch. Ms. Enoch has provided readers with a well-written book and furnished it with a magnificent cast of characters. The MacTaggert brothers have been called to London by their mother. She tasked them with finding English wives and the youngest was the first to fall in line. Aden would rather gamble than look for an English wife. Miranda’s brother is the fiance of the MacTaggert brother’s only sister. When her brother throws her to a gambler to cover his gambling debts Miranda seeks Aden’s help. Miranda and Aden’s story is filled with drama, humor, smokin’ hot sexy bits, action and suspense. I totally loved the humor in this book. Scot Under The Covers is book 2 of the Wild Wicked Highlanders Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Aden has reluctantly come to England in search of a bride. His mother has decreed that he as well as his brothers must be wed before their younger sister, who is currently engaged, weds. This is a highly difficult task for Aden as he finds English women lacking in fire and interesting conversation. That is, until he meets Miranda. Her fire and passion stir something within him. Too bad her fire and passion come out while telling him she hates him and his gambling ways!
When the tables turn Miranda must eat crow and apologize to Aden. She will need his gambling knowledge to outsmart Captain Vale, a ruthless gambler who wants her hand in marriage, as well as her connections in society, or he will ruin and bankrupt her family.
As they conspire together to outwit this nefarious character, Aden knows without a doubt that Miranda is the woman he wants.
Will Miranda be set free from her burden of marriage to Captain Vale? And if she is, will she want to tie herself forever to Aden?
I am in LOVE! *fans self*. I’ve been Hylandered! I’ve been pulled in by the rough and tumble of these brute giants with big hearts and tremendous passion!
Aden showed his sweetness right from the beginning in his treatment of an abused dog. He continues to show this kindness in everything he does. When he must, he becomes demanding and possessive. So sexy!
His character is written so well it’s almost like he has a physical presence. He seems tangible. I swear I heard his accent and could see his tall, broad body and trademark smirk. I liked him a whole helluva lot!
Miranda is sassy and brave. She made the perfect match for Aden giving as much as she got.
Together Miranda and Aden are sweet and loving. A tentative love blooms and it becomes all-encompassing. They are honest, forthright and absolutely cute together.
I must admit that I love the brothers’ outrageous bet with their shoe wear. It was ridiculous and oh so funny.
I need more of these Hylanders! I cannot wait to read Coll’s book!
I received an ARC via NetGalley of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Aden’s mom had left their father but before she left she made him sign an agreement that her three boys had to marry before their youngest sister and they had to be English. So here they were. The English always brought an absurd amount of luggage, so they brought Rory, a red deer, as part of a huge amount of luggage. Both Aden and Coll had taken off their shoes to settle a bet. So there they were walking around in Mayfair with a bucket in the street, pitching their shoes at the bucket and being barefoot. The two eldest had not found anything they wanted since they had come down five weeks ago. Their dad had decided to perish from the shock of learning his youngest is engaged to be married.. Or he was afraid of his wife. Miranda Harris was the sister to the man Eloise was going to marry. Aden liked her straight-talking and not speaking on boring subjects as most English girls did.
Matthew, Miranda’s brother had gambled which he was not supposed to do and got in so deep that he sold his sister to this awful man. Captain Robert Vale Resemble a bird of prey prominent brow, narrow, thin-lipped mouth, and long straight down angled nose.
There are a lot of twists in this story of a broken family and a mother who has been absent for seventeen years. I really loved the tale and the teasing, laughing and loving. His mother wants her sons to forgive her but they are having a hard time with it and having to marry. Not a good thing. The characters are funny, teasing, kind and eventually loving It does get a little sexy. so it should be for older folks but is still a good read. It is entertaining, scary, and three dominating Highlander’s thrown into the mix. I highly recommend this novel.
I received this ARC from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it.
“Scot Under the Covers” beginning was definitely touch and go and I was damned near tempted to drop this but the Book Gods above decided to answer my prayers by gracing me the perseverance to claim a few more pages then wa-lah! Matthew true intentions and dealings came to light which help lead and created the phenomenal partnership between Aden and Miranda. I immediately fell in love with their banterful relationship filled with stolen kisses, steamy moments, and badassery of our fine ass highlander. This was perfect swoon worthy historical romance I’ve been looking for a while.
When three devilishly handsome Highlander’s are ordered by there estranged mother to London
you know something is going to happen. Lady Aldriss left her three son’s with her husband in Scotland when she took her baby daughter and returned to England. It’s been 17 years and when their baby sister Eloise finds her man, Matthew Harris and becomes engaged the brothers learn the deal made by their father. They must marry English women or Lady Aldriss will stop the money supporting Aldriss Park. Aden MacTaggert is the middle son, he is the quiet one, and also a man who likes to wager and gamble. He is very good at it. Coll MacTaggert, Lord Glendarril is the largest and is quick to solve problems with fighting first, talk later. Master Niall is the youngest and has already found his wife Amy.
When Aden meets his sister’s soon to be sister in law, they immediately don’t get along. Miranda Harris does not like anyone who wagers, or gambling of any kind. She let’s Aden know how she feels about him and that she does not want anything to do with him. Aden is taken back by her being a sharp-tongued English women.
Unfortunately At Ball held by Lady Aldriss, Miranda’s brother Matthew introduces her to one Captain Robert Vale. He has a falcon look to him, making Miranda feel like a mouse to be caught.
During their first dance Vale tells her that they are to marry and soon! As Miranda starts to tells him off, Vale cuts her off and tell her to speak to her brother. When she does she founds out he is in heavy debt
to Vale, but Vale has agreed to let him off for her hand in marriage. Matthew has given her to him to pay the debt ! Sold his sister to a monster .
With no one she can turn to, she must ask the Aden for assistance as he is the only one she knows who understand how a gambler thinks.
As Aden and her try to find a way to save her, they learn a lot of each other. Miranda has to trust him. The batter between these two is wonderful, with her sharp tongue and his cutting down the English. How they solve all the problems, with help from a stray dog, Brogan. His brother’s also are needed and even his mother has a part to play.
This is a funny, sad, mystery while also being a steamy romance with a happy ever after.
I don’t want to say anymore as it would give away to much.
I couldn’t put this book down, and can’t wait for the next book.
I received and ARC from the author and would like to thank her.
I am giving my opinion voluntarily.
I hope you get a copy cause your going to love it. I’m going back and read book one now to see
what I might have missed….on Neill and Amy’s story.
This is my first Suzanne Enoch and I am in love!! The McTaggert brothers have stolen my heart and I can’t wait to read every book in this series. I did not read book one, It’s Getting Scot in Here, but it’s getting pushed to the top of my TBR. Scot Under the Covers stands alone well but if you can read book one first, do it. You don’t want to miss any of these brothers.
Aden is our hero and he is delicious and pretty much perfect. Sexy, a bit broody and mysterious, sarcastic. From the moment he saved a stray dog, I was done. Five star read. Ha! But it got even better as I read. Miranda is headstrong and stubborn and it was nice to see Aden break down her walls. I won’t go into story details but there wasn’t anything I disliked about this book. The writing flowed well, side characters added fantastic color to the story, the sexiness was well balanced by a good plot. It’s a bit of a hate to love story and a little suspense thrown in. There’s also a great villain which was a nice element.
If you’re a historical fan, give this a whirl!
When her brother finds himself up to his neck in crippling debt from gambling, Miss Miranda Harris finds herself being forced into marriage with the wily retired military Captain who has ruined her brother. As loathsome as she finds him, Miranda knows she must seek help from Aden McTaggert, the wild Highlander who is the brother of her future sister-in-law.
Aden knows nothing about English high society but he’s familiar with women and gaming. In order to keep his inheritance and the money that funds Aldriss Park, his home in Scotland, and supports all its tenants, he and his brothers must find English brides, and soon. His mother’s decree is barbaric, but he has no choice, so when the intriguing Miranda Harris asks for his help, offering to help him through London society if he’ll teach her how to think like a gambler, he decides to play along. Aden finds her beautiful and she peaks his curiosity, but he knows she has her own agenda and he’s not sure he can trust that the sparks flying between them are real and not just part of a game she’s playing.
Probably 4.5 stars, but I liked this book so much more than its predecessor. Aden was fabulous. He was such an intelligent, lovable hero and I liked that he was always several steps ahead of everyone, even if he was perhaps a bit too quick to forgive Miranda. Miranda nearly ruined this for me at the beginning with her immediate judgment of Aden based on gossip and hearsay before she’d even met him. What was worse was the fact that even after Aden kept proving himself to her repeatedly, she still kept doubting him and sniping at him. Luckily, Miranda did some serious developing, realized her errors and then did some serious groveling and apologizing. I appreciated her taking responsibility for her earlier meanness and apologizing, though I do wish she’d been more willing to hold her brother and uncle at least a little bit responsible for their mistakes, rather than just blaming all gamblers. But she was in a stressful situation and eventually was so sweet to Aden that I could forgive her too. Sidenote: while I find Francesca to be very interesting, she’s still been a terrible mother, no matter how she justifies her behavior, and I liked seeing her begin to open her eyes just a bit to the effect her behavior had on her sons and I hope to see her taking some actual responsibility in future books. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and thought it had a great villain and a hero who made the story. I always like the quiet, mysterious types and I’m looking forward to the next book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
4 1/2 stars
Scot Under the Covers turned out to be a really fun read! It started with the ridiculous boot throwing battle between the older MacTaggert brothers, a mention of Rory, the oddly dressed, stuffed stag, and Brogan, Aden’s unexpected rescue dog. The plot thickened with the lost wager from a brainless twit. But that brought out the battle of wits between Aden and Miranda, which kept me entertained from the get-go. Aden’s dry sense of humor also had me in stitches more times than I care to count, especially when he was trying to behave.
“Dunnae touch it, woman. Ye’d be setting it loose, and all sorts of mayhem could result.”
And the villain…well, I’ll just say Vale deserved what he got. I just wish his comeuppance came a little sooner than it did.
I am anticipating what could possibly await Coll!
I received an advance reader copy from Netgalley and this is my honest review.
Gotta love those wild wicked Highlanders:) I thoroughly enjoyed this story and loved everything about it! This is Aden and Miranda’s story and ooooh, what a story it is!!
Aden is my type of hero….not only is he a tall and gorgeous Highlander, he prefers to wear a kilt, has a wicked sense of humour and doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him. He’s also a gambler (an honest one!) and when he’s asked to help solve a situation that involves a dastardly villain who ruins lives of other gamblers, he accepts the challenge, especially since it involves Miranda, a lady he’s sure is THE one!! Miranda is proper in all ways and always goes by the rules, plus she detests gamblers since gambling has already brought ruin to some of her family members. When she finds herself blackmailed into marrying a man who holds her brother’s gambling debts in his hands, she has no choice but to turn to Aden for help. She soon learns that there is more to Aden than she first suspected and that she doesn’t hate him at all:) Lots of passion and heat soon follows, as well as a plan to free her and others from the villain’s grip!
I was given an ARC of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

My Review :
When caught in a dire predicament, can a miss set aside her animosity to require help from the one man she despises…
While I instantly loved Niall and Amy from the previous book, I am not sure about Miranda.
She took an instant dislike of Aden because of him being rumored as a gambler, while her very brother lost herself in a wager. Why I first thought she was one to be ill-positioned to give lessons, to be so judgmental when it is her own family which has fallen down at the gambling tables. She is also blind, her animosity against Aden prevent her to see the kind soul he is, one who rescues stray dogs and dances with Wallflowers.
She intrigued Aden at first because she spoke her mind but still she hold a grudge against him when he had done nothing to really earn it except some gossips. After so many rebuffs, I wondered if he has a masochist side, she is extremely disagreeable and he had done nothing to deserve her scolding.
Why I would have let her and her predicament without a glance even if it wasn’t on her own doing.
It is a story with its lot of villains, sure the cheater first who is after what he can’t afford by manipulating people to do his binding, but also the coward who handed his sister to settle his impossible debt and then last the heroine who decided that someone is not worthy of her presence because of some hearsay
Then why does Aden ask for more and turn even the other check. Is he a glutton for punishment ?
When the villain get his reward, he could have get worse, I think Miranda’s brother got lucky to escape unscathed.
The villain gots his due but the brother earned a bit more than a good scolding.
Ultimately Miranda redeemed herself when she finally rely him, but it took time when not once did he do anything to prove he was not one to be trusted.
It has needed to reach half mark for the story to get the characters to trust one another when at every turn Aden proves Miranda he is trustworthy and reliable.
In all, it is a fun read with witty banters and a clever hero trying to always be one step ahead the bad guy and meddling family.
This is a story about brotherhood, family love and the forgiveness you may have when it is your kin that are involved.

Scot Under the Covers is the second book in the Wild Wicked Highlanders. It can be read as a stand-alone, but the series is so good that I decided to reread the first book before starting this one. The series is based on the Earl of Aldriss, Angus MacTaggert, sons. Due to their parent’s agreement the sons had to travel to London where their mother lived and marry an English woman for the Aldriss estate to continue to receive funds.
Miranda Harris is smart, direct, has a perfect reputation, and is well known and liked by all of society. She disapproves of gamblers and is furious when she learns her brother has promised her hand to Captain Robert Vale. She asks Aden for advice and then help to save her family and herself.
Aden MacTaggert liked to keep his own counsel and his reputation as a gambler was well known. He was intrigued by Miranda and agreed to help her and in return she will help him navigate the ton.
The book was fast paced and fun to read. The characters were great and their banter was witty and held the readers interest. I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for Coll, the oldest brother.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
“I’d rescue the devil from Hell if it helped ye, lass.”
Laird Angus McTaggart and Lady Francesca Aldiss started their life together with a fierce passion. But over time, Lady Aldiss can no longer tolerate the lifestyle of the Highlands and longs for her days in society living in London. After the birth of their daughter, Lady Aldiss tells her husband that he may keep their sons and raise them in the wilds, but she is taking their daughter to be raised amongst the cultured. Laird McTaggart, in great need of his wife’s large coffers, agrees to her terms—their three sons must all wed an English lass before their sister or she will cut off funding Clan Ross.
Fast forward 17 years, and the MacTaggert brothers find themselves at a loss when their father tells them of the agreement made with their mother. Coll, Aden, and Naill MacTaggert are determined no mother that abandoned them will dictate how they will live their lives, and descend upon Lady Aldiss with plans of their own. Alas, their mother will not budge, and after Naill finds love and marriage, Aden and Coll start to feel the noose of their future nuptials.
Aden is known to be more reclusive than his fisticuffs elder brother, and tends to keep his own company in the midst of the local gaming hells of London. But when a feisty damsel in distress approaches him for assistance, Aden starts thinking that perhaps being with one woman to call his own for always isn’t such a bad bet…
Miranda Harris can’t believe her brother has sold her off to cover his gambling debt. Sworn to secrecy out of fear of hurting her family, Miranda opts to fight fire with fire by seeking assistance in a fellow gambler, Aden MacTaggert. Never did she dream that she would actually grow to care for the Highlander…
Suzanne Enoch’s Scot Under the Covers is a fun fast paced romance that I enjoyed and would recommend to lovers of this genre. I’m so looking forward to Coll’s story in the next installment of the Wild Wicked Highlanders series.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. **
This is book 2 in the Wild Wicked Highlanders series and it can be read as a stand alone. This one is about Aden MacTaggert and Miranda Harris. Aden is forced to find a wife because of the agreement between his mother and father. And he has come to England to search unhappily. Miranda has been sold by her brother to pay his gambling debts. And she is reluctantly turning to Aden for help. Now they are thrust together trying to get what they both need while still taking care of their families.
I had a hard time with parts of this book. Ordinarily I love anything that has scottish in it. Something about these types of books just draws me in. Usually. I really disliked Miranda’s brother and what he does to her. I get that this type of thing probably happened a lot but it just hit me the wrong way and I hated it. And there was a lot of Miranda’s personality that just rubbed me wrong. She seemed almost prejudiced towards the person she needs the help from the most. Yes, she is a strong woman and is willing to stand up for herself but she just rubbed me wrong. Aden came across as almost controlling and not in a good way. The story line itself was good. The writing as always was excellent, I just had a hard time with the characters and their traits. And I honestly think that’s just me although I could be wrong. I loved the first book so I know that I will be going back to this series for the next book and hope it was just these characters that I didn’t like.
Awesome series! This is the 2nd book (I recommend that you read them all) and it was just as entertaining as the 1st, maybe more so. Aden MacTaggert is a man who can’t resist anyone or anything in need. He stole my heart when he saved the doggie (lots of laughs around that) and then when poor Miranda got drawn into her brother’s gambling debts and he just naturally set out to “save” her, yup, that did it for me.
Hint: love ensues.
The highlanders are over-the-top outrageous and alpha (which I love!) but they’re also really, REALLY good men who don’t care about London’s strict rules and ideas of propriety. They’re dedicated to each other, honorable and smart.
Up next is Coll, the oldest and heir, and my-oh-my has it been fun getting to know him. Now I’m off to review Hit Me With Your Best Scot, Coll’s story – which was my favorite!
BTW, aren’t these titles super-fun?
Miranda Harris finds herself in a dire situation. Her brother Michael, a recently reformed gambler, has a past debt that leads to blackmail. The terms state Miranda is to marry Captain Robert Vale or risk the reputation of her entire family. Against her better judgment, Miranda seeks help from Aden MacTaggert, who happens to be a gambler himself, looking for insight into the devious mind of her blackmailer.
Miranda is an intelligent female lead. She has excellent instincts and does not simply step back and hope for the man to save her. I worried her opinion on Aden’s gambling pastime would cloud her judgment. She handles the situation well, using his actions to deduce his nature. I admire her for that.
Aden is a savvy, sexy, and confident Scot. He is casual when faced with Miranda’s ire. Aden does not waste time attempting to sway her mind. He merely uses his knowledge to force Miranda’s tormentor into making a mistake. I respected his stance on the subject. He is what he is, and one can take it or leave it.
During their mystery to solve, Miranda warms to Aden. Aden works well as Miranda’s counterpart. Their ensuing courtship is delightful.
Its been for ever since I last read Suzanne Enoch. She is one of my favorite HR authors and when given the chance to read her again I jump on it. Every time I read an HR romance I’m always left with a bit of anger because of how women were treated and had basically no right about how their futures would turn out.
Miranda is left to deal with huge problem that her brother caused. Enters Aden and they from a plan that would benefit them both.
I absolutely loved Miranda. She was put in an impossible situation but didn’t let that stop her. The transition from (sort of) friends to lovers takes (per usual) effortlessly and by the end of the book you can’t help but root for our MC’s that everything turns out in their favor.
As said I’m a big fan of this author and I’m so happy I got a change to read her again.
***Review copy received by NetGalley for an honest review***
An elusive (and gorgeous) Scot meets a fierce English lass.
Scot Under the Covers is the second installment in the Wild Wicked Highlander’s series and tells the story of the elusive middle brother Aden McTaggert. The series is about three highlander brothers who were summoned to England by their estranged mother and forced to seek English brides or face the ruin of their Scottish estate.
Aden is known to enjoy a gamble and likes to keep his own counsel in most things. He has a difficult relationship with his mother, and cannot forgive her for abandoning him and his brothers seventeen years ago (honestly, I cannot blame him. I hope the reasons for her actions will justify it all by the end of the series, as she seems to be a very fine lady).
He intends to convince his mother to give up on marrying them to English ladies and to go back to the highlands. Things change when he meets Miranda Harris, his little sister’s future sister-in-law.
Miranda dislikes Aden by principle (she hates gamblers) and, differently from almost any other woman Aden has met in the past, does not want anything to do with him.
After seeing herself tangled in a huge mess caused by her gambling brother, Miranda ends up seeking Aden’s counsel and discovers there is more to him than what shows on the surface.
The couple has great chemistry and I enjoyed their bantering. Some side characters are wonderful (his older brother Coll is my favorite), Brogan, the dog, and even the villain. His sister and her fiance are a little flat, I’m hoping for a book for her where she meets someone else 😉
I can’t wait for the next book in this lovely series!

When it comes to historical romance, I have my favorites. This author is new to me, I took a chance, and I absolutely loved this story! And I love a strong heroine who doesn’t accept a bad hand she’s been dealt. The sparks between Aden and Miranda are fantastic, the villain is perfectly dastardly, and as I was reading, I laughed as much as I swooned. This is the second book in a series but definitely stands on its own. I am so looking forward to the next book. I can’t wait to meet the lass that captures Coll MacTaggert’s heart.
I absolutely love the second book in this series. It’s fun, easy to read and full of brotherly love.
It’s Aden’s story, and despite resisting the idea of marrying an English lass to save their Scottish estate, he happily comes to Miranda’s help.
Miranda dislikes gamblers, therefore listens to rumours about Aden and dislikes him before even meeting him. Needless to say that their first encounter doesn’t bode so well.
Ironically, Miranda finds herself cornered by a gambling agreement, thanks to her brother. In desperation, she seeks Aden’s help. Who better to understand a gambler’s motivation? They form a partnership and as Miranda gets to know Aden, she is surprised by his ingenuity and his loyalty. Aden for his part is intrigued by Miranda. She is far from being like any of the English lasses who he has met so far. Dare they hope for something better? After all, Miranda wants her freedom whilst Aden has to honour his parents’ agreement. How will they know that they are meant for each other?
Aden and Miranda match each other’s wit and their interactions are rather fun and interesting. Their dedication to their partnership brings them closer together, until they realise they really enjoy their mission, but more importantly, how they feel. Despite a rocky start, their story ends with a flourish. Now, Coll’s story should be interesting. I cannot wait to see what’s in store.
I was kindly issued with an eARC and the views expressed are my personal opinion.
