“It’s time to fall in love with Suzanne Enoch.” — Lisa Kleypas
Devilishly handsome Highlander Aden MacTaggert knows next to nothing about the ways of the ton, but he most certainly knows his way around gaming halls and womens’ hearts. Still, Aden is not sure how he’ll manage to find a Sassenach bride in time to save his family’s inheritance. When his almost sister-in-law Miranda comes to him for assistance, he proposes a partnership: She will help him navigate London society and he’ll teach her everything about wagering…and winning back her freedom. The beautiful, clever lass intrigues Aden–but is she playing her own game, or are the sparks between them real? He is accustomed to risking his pocket. But betting on Miranda’s love is a game he can’t afford to lose. . .

Aden MacTaggert and his brothers have to find English brides, or they will lose their inheritance including their home in Scotland.
With one brother happily married, Aden and his eldest brother Coll are left with the daunting prospect of navigating the balls of London’s Social season.
Miranda Harris is sister to the man who is to marry Aden’s sister Eloise. She catches Aden’s eye the first time they meet. She isn’t like all the other fluttering maids, she’s outspoken and witty. She also has an extreme aversion to anyone who gambles. Rightly so, since her brother has managed to lose so much money, his only way out is for her to marry the man he owes.
The stray dog Aden adopts provides amusement, including convincing folks the female dog is a male.
This is a fun, intriguing romp, with danger, some sizzle and a lot of plotting and planning. If ever two people belong together it’s Aden and Miranda.
I have to go back and read the first book to see how Niall, their younger brother, met and married his lady.
I can’t wait to read Coll’s story!
I really enjoyed this book. The fun plot and engaging characters very quickly capture and hold your interest. I thought both characters were quite likable and I loved heir chemistry. Aden and Miranda share plenty of clever banter while generating plots of sparks. There is a nice overall feeling of tension and excitement as these two conspire together. A well crafted blend of drama, emotion and passion flows throughout the story as it unfolds and this couple’s relationship develops. If I thought that there was one negative to this book it would be Matthew. In spite of the excuses that the author makes for this character, I honestly didn’t like him. I never truly felt that he regretted his actions and further more, I could not accept the idea that no one would have intense reservations about him marrying Eloise.
What an enjoyable book! I loved this story of Aden and Miranda. Scot Under the Covers is Book 2 of the Wild Wicked Highlanders series. I have not (yet) read Book 1, but there was enough backstory and detail that I didn’t feel I missed anything crucial, and I enjoyed this story so much I have vowed to go back and read Niall’s story and look forward to Coll’s story
Aden MacTaggert is a Highlander who needs to find a bride to save his family’s inheritance. He seems like a rake, a gambler with a reputation with women. Miranda Harris is an outgoing, charming English lady who finds herself in a bit of a jam. In real danger, in fact. And not interested in marrying for any reason but love. They meet because Miranda’s brother Matthew is betrothed to Aden’s little sister Eloise. Miranda has heard of Aden’s reputation and when she meets him she is disdainful. However, once she learns that Matthew has more or less traded her to the vile Robert Vale to settle enormous gambling debts, Aden is the only one Miranda feels she can turn to (he’s a fellow gambler, after all, right?).
And these two are quite a pair. So of course that means they are going to be undeniably drawn to each other, with much humor and heat and a good bit of intrigue and danger. They form an unlikely alliance to use some very ingenious trickery to remove Miranda from the predicament her brother Matthew has gotten her into.
This was a fun story that had me hooked from the start. Thanks to St. Martin’s Press for providing an advance copy via NetGalley. I thoroughly enjoyed Scot Under the Covers and all opinions expressed in their review are my own.
Aden MacTaggert and his brothers have a deadline to find an English bride before his engaged sister’s married or his English mother will cut off funding their Scottish Estate. The only woman that has intrigued Aden is the sharp-tongued Miranda who disdains him because of his gambling. When Miranda’s brother’s gambling binds her in a trap, Miranda goes to Aden for help. Miranda starts to see the elusive Aden in a different way. I received a free copy of this eBook from the publisher. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. Though we are kept in the dark as much as Miranda at times, I really liked Aden’s plan. I really like that Miranda was looking for a way out of the trap while protecting her family. There are some steamy scenes but they are not gratuitous. I really enjoyed this read. This is the first book that I have read in the series and it can be enjoyed as a standalone. I plan to add the first book in this series to be TBR pile.
This is a must read for historical romances. I loved the MacTaggert brothers. So far the women they’ve chosen are worthy of a highlander husband.
I didn’t read the previous book(s) in this series but I was immediately drawn into Aden and Miranda’s story. Their story checks all my boxes and I can’t wait for more!! I’m going to go back and read the previous books in the Wild Wicked Highlanders series!
5 stars!
A white knight to the rescue.
Highlander Aiden is, against his will, looking for an English wife in London. He’d like a wife with a bit of spunk but unfortunately the only woman that seems interesting has taken an instant dislike to him because he likes to wager. Until that is she is forced to turn to him for insight into a gambler’s mind and on getting to know him, decides that he is not at all what she thought him! I enjoyed this book and the interaction between the characters, though I did think the bedroom antics were unnecessary and uncharacteristic of the sensible Miranda.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was such a sweet and sexy story! It was my first book by this author, and I truly enjoyed it!
Miranda Harris is well known for being a beautiful, and dutiful, member of the upper echelons of London. She’s always proper, never makes a scene, and is appropriately demure. She’s never had much reason to be otherwise. But, when an acquaintance of her older brother Matthew, wins one too many wagers against him, it ends up being HER freedom on the chopping block. Matthew owes an impossible to pay 50,000 pounds to Captain Robert Vale. In exchange for forgiving the debt, the Captain has said he wants to marry Miranda. But, he’s truly a dastardly sort, and has no interest in the fact that Miranda doesn’t want to marry him. He expects to use her connections and social standing to better his own lot, regardless of her thoughts on the matter. Miranda doesn’t know where to turn, until her brother’s fiancee’s family comes into town, and she sees a possibility for help.
Aden MacTaggart is a Scottish Highlander, and he and his 2 brothers have been summoned to London by their long-absent mother to find and marry English brides. His younger brother Niall was lucky enough to find love right away, and is now married. But Aden, and his older brother Coll, have no interest in any brides, much less Sassenach ones. He feels out of place in England, and wants to go home. He’s a great gambler, but it’s mostly just a hobby. When he meets his younger sister Eloise’s future sister-in-law, Miranda, he’s enamored of her, more than he should be. Especially when she makes it immediately clear how she feels about gamblers. But, when she finds out how much trouble her brother has gotten them into, she’s got no one she can trust to help her, save Aden. He agrees to help, and falls in love along the way.
Aden and Miranda had a fiery connection from the start, and I loved their push and pull. It was a bit of enemies to friends to lovers here, and it was so much fun! They really came to understand and care for each other, so much more than either of them expected, and it was glorious. I really enjoyed them being a united front, fighting against an outside enemy. There were some complications between them, regarding trust, but mostly they were solid, and were dealing with outside sources of tension, which I enjoyed.
You could really feel the bond between Aden and his brothers too, and I enjoyed their interactions. Also, Aden’s strained relationship with his mother was fascinating. She left the boys with their father in Scotland, and returned to London with baby Eloise when she was about 1 year old. They haven’t seen either woman since, for about 17 years. And now they’re basically here under duress, so they aren’t feeling very loving toward their mother at all. I definitely feel like I would’ve benefited more from reading book 1 first. I assume in that story we got their initial summons, and reunion, and all the feelings that went with that. I’m definitely interested in going back to read that story to get a better feel for the origin of their tenuous connections.
This story was very satisfying, and I loved how ultimately Aden just aided Miranda in saving herself, rather than just swooping in and doing everything for her. It made me, and Miranda, love him even more. She really stood up for what she wanted, and didn’t want, for her life, and I admired her a lot. I definitely recommend this story, and I can’t wait for Coll’s story next! And now Niall’s story in book 1 is on top of my TBR pile too!
This book was a total delight to read with the good character and storyline development that kept me totally captivated until the very end!
Bumpity, bump, bump! That describes the road to a Happily Ever After for Miranda Harris and Aden MacTaggert in Suzanne Enoch’s latest, Scot Under the Covers. This is the second book in her Wild Wicked Highlanders series. This story features the middle MacTaggert son who has been forced out of the Highlands of Scotland along with his two brothers to London. His father signed an agreement that his sons would take English brides in exchange for his wife’s continued finacial support of his Highland estate Aldriss Park. Aden’s mother left Scotland many years ago since she no longer got along with her husband and prefered the civilization in London. What starts out as doing a favor for Miranda Harris turns out to be that bumpity road to their HEA. This is a fun story. I loved it!
I just adore this series by Suzanne. Three Scottish highlanders who are fish-out-of-water in London at their mother’s purse strings blackmailing demand to marry English ladies. This is Aden’s story, the gambler who keeps his thoughts to himself. Underneath he’s a rescuer and has a soft heart for those who need help. The heroine, Miranda Harris tells Aden the first time she meets him she doesn’t like or respect him because he gambles. Little does she realize that’s she’s going to need his help very soon.
Miranda is the sister of Matthew who is engaged to Aden’s little sister Eloise. Miranda’s father and uncle have both been taken advantage of gamblers in the past and she hates gamblers and gambling because of that. Aden spends his spare time in this pursuit so she tells him off the first time they meet. Unfortunately her brother Matthew is being blackmailed by gambler Captain Robert Vale into forcing Miranda to marry him to forgive the huge debt. If not Vale will tell their parents and destroy their lives taking everything. Vale is seeking entry and status into London’s ton and she his ticket. Miranda is desperate to get out of this and turns to Aden for help trying to get away from Vale. She understands only a gambler can get the best of another gambler. Aden is intrigued by Miranda and is determined to best Vale and cast him out of London so he can’t hurt his younger sister or others. Vale shows a history of holding others gambling debts over their heads to advance himself. As they work together Miranda learns Aden isn’t who she thought and Aden sees that Miranda is the one woman who will be his equal partner in life. I loved watching how Aden played his game to expose Vale and get the best of him.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I adored the whole story. I loved both main characters from the very beginning.
Miranda Harris was sassy, very intelligent and by sociaty recognized which brought her life in a dangerous situation of debt. Although not on her behalf, she needed to become free again.
Aden McTaggert was somewhat rough highlander with heart in the right place and brilliant mind.
When those two became partners to ploy against Captain Vale and to free Miranda of her situation, they completed one another like match made in heaven.
I loved every second of this entertaining book.
.
Scot Under the Covers is the 2nd book in the Wild Wicked Highlanders series by Suzanne Enoch. This is the first time I’ve read her book (I know, I’ve been living under a rock, apparently ) and I’m so happy to have discovered her. I love her writing style, the story plot is smartly written with medium steam, witty banter and interesting characters (can’t go wrong with Scotsmen in kilts and their distinctive brogue ).
This book is another version of Pride and Prejudice, where Miranda Harris immediately showed her disdain for Aden MacTaggert at their first encounter, just because she heard about him being a gambler, and quickly judged his characters based on her general knowledge of those who would destroy families at the games of cards. When her brother got into serious gambling debts and “sold” her off as a pay-off, she thought to seek insights from the professional Aden. As he went out of his way to help her, their partnership quickly changed her point of view about Aden. It also helped that he was clever, charming, and roguishly handsome .
Together with his two brothers, Aden was forced to move to London to find an English bride to save his family’s inheritance under his parents’ agreement. Intrigued by Miranda’s intelligence and sharp tongue, he decided that Miranda would be his bride and that he would do anything to set her free from the forced marriage.
I quite enjoyed the interactions among the MacTaggert brothers and sister, their loyalty and support for each other. Aden’s scheme to overthrow the villain/blackmailer was keeping me attached to the book until the end. Although I was a bit frustrated with Miranda in the beginning for her opinionated prejudice and unjust behavior toward Aden, I slowly forgave her later as she learned to trust Aden and changed her perspectives about him . Overall, it’s quite an enjoyable 4.5- read for me!
*Special thanks to St. Martin’s Press for sending me the ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.*

I have read a lot of Suzanne’s books over the years and have loved most of them. She writes in such a way that draws you in and does not let go. This is one of those books. Brother (and sister) books are a favorite and the McTaggerts are very delicious Scots. Take my word on this, you will want to devour them and take them home with you. When reading about these three brothers and one sister, I thought for sure my favorite would be Coll, the curmudgeon, and he still might be but Aden won my heart in this story. He is swoon-worthy and loyal to Miranda as she is loyal to her brother. Both of these characters were wonderfully written. The one character I did not get the feels with is Matthew, Miranda’s brother. I thought he was childish and did not own up to his faults and not sure if he will last with Eloise. Maybe he will redeem himself later, hopefully.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
This was the first I’ve read of Suzanne Enoch’s work and I very much enjoyed reading it. There is humor and good dialog, just my taste.
Miranda’s predicament is not solved too quickly. How the villain Vale repeatedly corners Miranda at balls etc. was very creepy and had me feeling her frustration.
As stated by another reviewer, the mother taking her daughter and leaving her husband and 3 sons does not make for a character worthy of my sympathy. Her ploy to see her sons more if they marry English brides is not thought through; who is to ensure they don’t run off to Scotland, with or without their brides, as Aden initially intends to do.
I most especially missed there being any repercussions for Matthew. He may be young and gullible, but wagering his sister’s life after having to sell his much-loved horse the last time he got over his head gambling is just plain stupid. Hard to swallow that the MacTaggerts are not more forceful against him.
I received a free ARC via netgalley; the thoughts expressed are my own.
This is one of my favourite books I have read lately. It grabbed me on page 1 and kept me till the last page. All the characters were written with humour and feeling. I enjoyed the way supporting characters thoughts were also expressed. The story had you guessing how it was all going to end till the last page. There was a couple of sex scenes but as usual, I skipped them which didn’t affect my enjoyment of the book. It was a long book because you need to read every word. Well worth the read. I received this as an ARC and freely give this honest review.
Copy received via Netgalley for an honest review
I have not read the first Wild Wicked Highlanders story, however this did not affect my reading or enjoyment of Scot Under The Covers
I have been reading more historical romance the past couple of years, and a historical romance with a sexy highlander – let me at it
This was a sexy, suspenseful romp through quagmire of love and romance in historical England (in my mind it was set in the Regency era, but I don’t know if that is when it was set).
Aden is all swashbuckly, knight in sexy plaid when i comes to Mirancda and her brother in law to be.
Gotta say, the BIL Matthew is not at all really likable with what he does.
Then there is the rake, Vane, blackmailing his way to the top.
Miranda toes the very fine line between love and hate, but really, how could anyone resist that man or that accent.
I adored Aden’s family and I will be going back to read the first book in the series, and I am looking forward to the 3rd book to come.
This was an entertaining, well-written book. Miranda Harris is being blackmailed into marrying a villain She turns to her soon to be brother-in-law, Aden MacTaggert, for help. Miranda and Aden were such a refreshing pair, I was quickly caught up in their story and rooting for them. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books by this author.
An intriguing historical romance where an English Sassanach is forced to recruit the help of a Scotsman ignorant of the ton to escape the clutches of a conniving villain. Just the right amount of heat and suspense in Enoch’s latest romance.
Scot Under the Covers was my first Suzanne Enoch novel and it won’t be my last. I love historical novels because they whisk you away to another time, when ladies were proper and men proud but perhaps quite different behind closed doors.
Any book that features a hot Scotsman gets my attention, especially one who is cunning, observant and completely self-assured in a place where he’s quite the outsider. Aden MacTaggert has descended on the London ton thanks to the agreement his mother made with his father when he and his two brothers were just wee kids. The agreement is for the 3 men to wed English ladies before their youngest and only sister is to wed. With their dear sister Eloise engaged, Aden is forced to find a wife and is not too keen on the idea nor the fact that his mother is behind the scheme.
Miranda Harris finds herself thrust into her own problems when she learns of her brother’s gambling debt, with the repayment being her own hand in marriage to a slimy, retired Captain, Robert Vale. Not willing to sacrifice herself to this wretched man nor thrust her family into ruin, she reluctantly turns to Aden for help.
I love books that set two people together when both or in this case one of the parties is quite reluctant to have to rely on the other. Miranda’s formed preconceived opinions of Aden from stories she’s heard but still approaches him despite not liking him. Despite her sharp tongue and insults Aden surprisingly agrees to help her find a way out of marrying Vale.
The sparing between the two while they concoct a plan is well done, however I felt that there was quite a lot of repetition in the expression of their hesitant, growing feelings toward the other in their inner monologues when it turned to their own point of view. Instead of reminding the reader again and again what Aden and Miranda where struggling with, I would have liked some of the earlier pages to have delved more into their own character development and pasts, especially Aden’s.
Despite this however I felt like the book had great pacing and development of their relationship given the short time frame of the story. I was intrigued by the suspense aspect of the story and wondered how Miranda would ultimately get out of her predicament.
Enoch did a fantastic job of writing the evil Robert Vale. It was easy to dislike him and want to see his demise. I absolutely loved Aden’s older brother Coll and will definitely be reading his story which I hope is next in the series.
If you love couples with sharp tongues who like to banter and your romantic story mixed with a bit of suspense, this is a great, quick read you’re sure to enjoy.

Scot Under the Covers is book two in The Wild Wicked Highlanders series by Suzanne Enoch. I am loving this set of stories. Enoch is a master of layering her characters and bringing them to life. Although this book could be read as a stand alone tale, it is much richer to read them in order. Enoch sprinkles some hilarious moments in along with some extremely steamy sex scenes. Ordered to London to fine themselves wives, all three MacTaggert brothers are resistant at first. The middle brother is a gambler – Aden. And this is his story. I enjoyed the slow development of Aden and Miranda’s relationship. Miranda’s response to the trial she faces is believable and heart breaking. I can’t wait to read more in this series.
A Scottish rogue and his brothers reluctantly come to London. To obtain their inheritance from their English mother, they must marry an English lady. None of them want to comply. When Aden is approached by his future sister-in-law for help, he can’t refuse. Knowing Aden is an excellent gambler is just what Miranda needs to stop a blackmailer. A wink and a kiss and Aden has a plan to save Miranda and if he happens to fall in love and get the girl, that’s okay, too. A fun book to read, full of charm and humor. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
