Tennyson Clark is getting a life. First step: quitting her job as assistant to Dominic Anderson, star quarterback for the Washington Warriors, her best friend…and the man she’s been secretly in love with for years. But since the gorgeous, if overprotective playboy has only ever seen her as his BFF, she’s finally ready to relinquish her tattered fantasy and move on. Enter steps two and three: … new job and new man.
Football is Dominic’s life, and with his contract soon up for renewal, all his focus needs to be on the game. But Tennyson–dependable, logical Tennyson–is making that next to impossible with her mysterious new job and her sudden interest in online dating. He doesn’t do relationships. But the thought of another man touching her sexier-than-hell curves has him suddenly wanting more from his best friend.
Indulging in hot, dirty, what’s-my-name sex with no strings and lots of benefits is simple, uncomplicated…until it’s not.

Unrequited love meets best friends to lovers meets sports romance in this awesome book (the second in a series) about a heroine who just can’t spend every waking hour with her NFL playing best friend…because she can’t stop loving him even though he’ll never love her back. (Spoiler: Of course he will.)
Tennyson Clark has been holding out hope that her best friend would see her as something more for long enough, it’s time to finally let that wish go, and move on and get a life of her own. Lurking in his famous shadow, playing the part of his personal assistant has allowed her to see things she wished she hadn’t and also shown her that the crush she has harbored for him is not reciprocated at all, in his eyes she will always be his best friend. Day after day she has wished she would see a spark in his eyes, that was meant for her, but nothing lies there other than the caring look you would have for your sister, and it hurts like hell. So, she decides to make some changes, first up is finding a man, then a new job that will allow her to put her degree to work, and lastly detach herself from Dominic’s side. But just as she starts to get started on her new life, Dom decides to intervene, and throw a wrench in her plans. He’s not ready to let her go, and he will stop at nothing to keep her by his side where she belongs!
The moment Tennyson tells Dom that she is leaving his side to create a new life of her own, panic settles in, so much of his life has revolved around her and their friendship, and now she wants to walk away from that. How is he suppose to maneuver throughout the season without her handling things for him, she says she will help find her replacement and train them well, but no one will be as good as she is, no one understands him like she does. Then if that isn’t tough enough to deal with, she decides to start dating, and that is just the icing on the cake, the idea of someone else being at the center of her world, stealing her time and attention, puts him over the edge… he knows he has to do something quick before he loses her for good!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from NetGalley, and voluntarily read and reviewed.
This was the second book in the wags series from Naima Simone. Tennyson Clark is trying to move on in her life and that includes moving away from the one person that she is in love with and that she is closest to, her best friend Dominic Anderson star quarterback for the Seattle warriors. Tenny is also Dom’s PA so when she tells him she is changing jobs that changes everything with the stress of everything. Can they work through their feelings or will they ruin their friendship.
This book was so good friends to lovers, unrequited love it’s all here. I could not put this book down.
Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down to see what happened next. I loved the characters and seeing how much they cared about each other. I definitely recommend this book.
I’ve never been one to trust a best friends to lovers romance but this one works for me. Naima has created a believable relationship between two characters that I was rooting for from page one to the very end.
I need to choose steamy a few more times!
This was hard for me to rate. Parts were really, really good. Other parts really bugged me. Which left it as merely an “OK” book. Tennyson is amazing. Dom has a lot of great qualities as well. The dialogue and plot were good. The sex scenes were hot.
I’m just not a fan of friends-to-lovers where we don’t spend a lot of time getting the friendship foundation. No flashbacks to previous convos or stories of how they’re really solid. Yes, there’s some stories of how Dom is a big brother/protector ~ but not much in the way of how connected these two are AS FRIENDS.
It’s Tenny complaining about Dom’s never ending parade of women. (I’m not judging how many people he’s slept with ~ but expecting his best friend/PA to deal with his hookups and their “walk of shame” or whatever is icky.). And then we’re just repeatedly told that they’re best friends and have known each other for 14 years.
Dom’s “friends with benefits” arrangement is squicky as well. “You’re my best friend and I like having sex with you but I never want it to become anything”. On no planet is that at all respectful of someone you’ve known for 14 years and you want to keep being best friends with.
The ending was pretty good and somewhat redemptive. But I doubt this is anything I’ll read more than once. I am looking forward to the next book though.
I loved Tennyson! She was strong and determined, and her desire to move on from what seemed like a hopeless situation with Dom took guts. Dom was just as likable; he just took longer to get a read on what he wanted. Overall, very good read.
Friends turn to friends-with-benefits-but-only-temporarily-because-I-don’t-do-relationships, as one does. The heroine knows the friendship is doomed anyway and embraces wringing everything she can get out of the relationship before its end, and she delivers a hell of an “I deserve more than you can give me” speech. The hero is an oblivious oaf about feelings, but he’s pretty good about owning it and performs adequate sacrificial penance in the end.
As someone who gets to romantic love through friendship, I found the angst painfully authentic!
So good! Also listed as one of the 5 Best Romances of 2018 by Washington Post. Trust me, you want to read it and then immediately read it again.
This whole series is awesome.
Loved this whole series
We all want to dream about this guy being your best friend. Who doesn’t want to be friends with the hot quarterback??
***5 Stars***
There were a few factors that came into play when it came to this book. 1) The Cover. It’s hot. Plain and simple. 2) I’m kind of a sucker for the friends to lovers trope. 3) An author I stal..*cough* follow was giving out much praise for the first book in the series (which I have not read…yet). So with all of that thrown into the mix I decided I NEEDED to get my hands on this one and I DEVOURED it.
I did.
I did the whole “I’ll just take a tinsy peek at it” *clears throat* got totally invested and had to do the #phoneappthing because that #workthing needed to get done, so…I finished it in a couple hours total because I couldn’t put it down. I needed to know what would happen next between Tennyson (love the name btw) and Dom and didn’t want anything to happen without me (I know. I know, but no one said logic played into things) and lemme just say these two took my on a ride, but I enjoyed every sweet, smexy, heartbreaking and frustrating moment right up until there were no more words to read.
Dom is focused. Like OMG tunnel vision focused and while it was Gibbs smack inducing frustrating, I understood why he was so adamant about sticking to his plan and couldn’t really fault him because his heart was in the right place. Tenny was sweet, sassy and would be someone I’d love to have in my squad, though there were would be a few things she’d be restricted from. Her past broke my heart, but I loved how she not only wanted to be more than her past, but also wanted to make a difference because of it.
It was hard NOT to get caught up in all that was going on between Tenny and Dom because it was so easy to see how good they were together. Their shared past gave them that special bond that not many find, but it was also made it difficult for Dom to see Tenny as anything but a friend. While the angst was relatively low, it was there and always simmering between them as things between them heated up, and when they finally hit the boiling point, it was all kinds of smexy, but brought about more bumps in the road for them to traverse. As much as I loved Dom, I was definitely Team Tennyson ~ even when I knew her some of her choice wouldn’t end well, I still backed her. And when they hit the huge sinkhole in their journey, it wasn’t a surprise, but it was harsh. Thankfully the grovelling was done quite well and the epilogue was all it should be.
I’m very happy I took a chance because this book was a lot of fun to read. The writing was engaging, the pacing was good and I enjoyed the dual 3rd person POV a lot. Even though this is the second book in the series and you meet the couple from the first one, it can be read as a standalone, though I am hoping to make a hole in my TBR list to get to that one sooner rather than later. I really liked all of the secondary characters, but Ronin is my favorite of the bunch and cannot wait for his book. But no matter whose book is next, I’ll definitely be looking to get my hands on it!

Totally loved this book.
I LOVED this book by Naima Simone. It’s probably one of my favorite friends to lovers romance! She scored BIG with this book!
Tennyson and Dom have been friends since childhood. Tenny has always loved and supported Dom, and Dom gave her security in her life when she didn’t have it. However, Tenny’s love for Dom is more than friendship, and she has finally decided to let the fantasy go of him seeing her as anything more. Her first step is quitting her job as his PA, and he is NOT happy at all! This will set motion feelings and emotions that they can no longer run from.
Tenny is an amazing woman! She has always supported, pushed, and loved Dom. I admire her desire to find out who she was on her own, but she found out something even more important. She found that she was running from her feelings for Dom and her fears of rejection and other things that have affected her because of her childhood. I admire that in a person…the strength to look inside themselves and really see who they are. That takes guts! How could I not love this girl?
Dom is overbearing and controlling with Tenny, but I couldn’t help but love him as well. He has taken care of her for so long, and I loved the fact that even fame didn’t deter him from his loyalty to her. I did want to crack him over the head for being blind to his own feelings for her, but I forgave him in the end.
This was a sexy and sweet romance, but it was also about friendship and trust. Honestly, that is the basis for a lasting relationship, and I truly enjoyed watching Tenny and Dom realize that about each other.

I absolutely loved this book!!! I have never read anything by this author before and wasn’t sure what to expect but I was thrilled that I chose to read this book. It was so good. One way for me to judge a good book is if they were able to get my emotions involved and this book did just that. My heart broke, I was angry as hell, full of anticipation of how things would play out, the push and pull Dom puts Tenny through was crazy,
I was rooting for Tenny to either move on with her life or for Dom to finally pull his head out of his ass. I could understand Dom’s reasoning to a point but come on, nobody would love Dom and understand him more than Tenny.
I highly recommend this book. I now want to go back and see how the first one is. I really fell in love with the characters in this book and can’t wait to see more in the future and to go back and see how that one plays out as well. Naima Simone has earned her spot in my must read authors list.
I loved this book!
SCORING OFF THE FIELD is the second instalment in Naima Simone’s contemporary, adult WAGS erotic, romance series focusing on the men and women of the profession football league’s the Washington Warriors. This is quarterback Dominic Anderson, and twenty –five year old PA / social worker Tennyson Clark’s story line. SCORING OFF THE FIELD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Tennyson and Dominic) SCORING OFF THE FIELD is a best friends to lovers storyline that follows the break down of the friendship between All-Star, four-time Pro-Bowl quarterback for the Washington Warriors Dominic Anderson, and his best friend/ PA Tennyson Clark. Having entered the foster care system as a teen, following the death of his parents, Dominic Anderson found a kindred spirit in Tennyson Clark, a young girl whose past was mired in abuse by a mentally disturbed parent. Now fourteen years later, Dom and Tennyson are best friends and soul-mates but Tennyson Clark has been in love with Dom for most of her adult life. Years before, Tennyson proclaimed her love, only to be rejected by the man that she loved, and with his ongoing stream of one-night stands, it was time for Tennyson to move on in the hopes of finding her own happily ever after. What ensues is the lust to love relationship build-up between Dom and Tennyson, and the fall-out as Dom is unable to commit to forever, and Tennyson’s happily ever after.
Dominic Anderson doesn’t do relationships. Burned in the past, and fearful of losing everyone that he loves, Dom is unable to give Tennyson everything that she wants forcing our heroine to battle between head and heart, in her attempts to move forward without the man that she loves. Dominic is so completely dependant upon his best friend and PA he is unable to comprehend that Tennyson wants more than to be her best friend’s buddy and PA.
The relationship between Tennyson and Dom is a best friends to lovers; a heartbreaking and emotional one-sided relationship in that Dom’s manwh*ring ways directly affect his relationship with the woman with whom he will fall in love. Dom’s oblivious to his best friend’s attraction, a love and attraction that is noticed by everyone else. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and passionate with the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are reintroduced to Ronin and Jason,Renee, Zephirin Black and Sophia Cruz (Scoring with the Wrong Twin #1); a couple of dating matches for our story line heroine; and Dom’s agent Brian Yates who works behind the scenes to ensure Tennyson is pushed out of our hero’s life.
The world building continues to focus on the players, the game, the struggles both on and off of the field.
SCORING OFF THE FIELD is an emotional story line; a tear-inducing tale between two friends who want different things going forward in life. The premise is passionate and painful; the romance is heart breaking and fated; the characters are broken, colorful and energetic.
4.5 stars
Wow! I absolutely LOVED this book!
Tennyson and Dominic met while they were both in foster care. Dom immediately recognized the devastation that lived in Tenny’s eyes and he vowed then and there to always protect her and prevent anything from wreaking havoc on her emotions in such a way again. Fourteen years later and she has spent years working as his PA but the time has come for her to walk away.
Being in love with Dom and knowing she will never have his romantic love in return is more than Tennyson can endure. To watch his one night stands leave is slowly breaking her heart because she is not the type of woman that Dom would ever desire. Giving him a one month notice, she prepares to step away from her best friend and the love of her life.
Dom lives for football. And it’s not just love of the game that keeps him striving to be the best. When Tenny declares she’s leaving he scrambles to find a way to stop her. And suddenly he’s looking at her with new eyes. Eyes that are hungry and desperate. However, despite any physical relationship they share, he must remain free from emotional entanglements so he can continue to concentrate on his whole purpose in life, the game.
I really loved these characters! Tennyson had an unusual and horrible background but found strength in Dom. She slowly finds her own strength and courage and it was a beautiful tale. Dom was just so clueless and yet what could have been simply not seeing what was in front of him and leaving it at that, this story took it a step further and shows us the true character growth within him.
This is a fast paced read with incredible secondary characters and plenty of steam. I haven’t read anything by this author before and I will definitely be digging into her backlist.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley and Entangled. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Dual POV
