This whole collection was amazing and Horror packed I turned a page and it was a new scary story. if you like short horror stories then this is the book, or should I say books, for you.
These books will always be on my recommend list. These books are the reason I am so into the paranormal, supernatural, urban legends, and true crime. The stories themselves are quick reads, something kids can read in short bursts.
The illustrations are, of course, legendary, and are a lot of the reason millions of 90s kids like myself had nightmares growing up. I already have these in a hardcover treasury collecting the three volumes into one book, but when I found out a Kindle version was forthcoming, I immediately pre-ordered my own copy. Because of the way they were printed in their original printing, page number references are no longer accurate due to the nature of ebooks, but this is a minor detail and easily overcome with a little digging. As an adult, I appreciate the research that went into these a lot more than I did as a kid, and the notes at the end of each volume is an excellent read as well. These books are some of my favorites of all time, and I’m thrilled to have yet another copy of them to reread.
Still awesome!
These books are filled with short stories written down by the great Alvin Schwartz. These stories are comprised of myths, folklore and urban legends from all over the world. But beware dear reader, these stories may be too scary for you!
Wonderfully written sets of little tales of horror. These stories were a beloved part of my childhood. I can still remember my friends and I staying up late at night sitting in a circle with a flashlight and these books and taking turns reading our favorite stories to each other. As we did our best to freak each other out so these stories remain ingrained in my memory. They bring back fond memories and are still delightful to read even as an adult.
Stephen Gammell’s horrifying illustrations still give me the creeps even as an adult. They are without a doubt the stuff that nightmares are made of.
I look forward to seeing what Guillermo del Toro can do to bring these horrorifying images to life on the big screen!
As any true lover of horror will tell you, these books are a must to add to your collection. And if you haven’t already read them, then you definitely should! Just remember to tell these scary stories… in the dark.
