Quentin thought he had put his past as country singer Jackson Rose behind him after a horrific fire eight years ago left him scarred. Yet when the best cinnamon bun baker in town, Carol Langston, revealed she knew his secret he found himself resisting the old familiar urge to run and hide. Something about the gentle redhead inspired trust and despite his efforts to dig his boot heels in, she kept … kept dragging him out and trying to include him in the holiday cheer.
With the holiday season in full gear, Carol wasn’t going to let Quentin miss out on all the Christmas fun, the poor man didn’t even have a tree! Despite her attraction to the man that had been her teenage crush, Carol’s time was already stretched pretty thin and she was getting tired of Quentin constantly dashing the minute things got personal. This year she had eagerly, and perhaps foolishly, agreed to head the town’s Winter Wishes festival. The local children’s home was the designated charity, and Carol knew with his star appeal Quentin could make this year the best yet for the children. She just had to convince him to stop being a Grinch and believe there was some good left in himself.

He is scarred and she wants to heal him
Scarred Heart is the first book I have read by Lisa Freed and I enjoyed it. As I was not sure what to expect I cracked this one open on the Kindle with an open mind in hopes of liking a new author. This is an engaging story with romance, an injured (physically and emotionally) former country singer and a spunky baker who was a fan and wants to help him sing again. I thought the story could have been developed some more in areas to bring more depth to the characters and situations. But overall it was a nice novella and I liked the author’s writing style.
I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
A really great quick read. Quentin needed a swift kick in the pants through most of the book but I’m glad he finally wised up.
AMAZING! A fantastic, well written read. An intense storyline that holds your attention as you get caught up in the fierce twists and hot chemistry. Plenty of excitement and emotionally heartfelt. A thrilling must read.

A well written story that held my interest until the end. Quentin/ Jackson Rose is a ex- singer/ songwriter who burned his hands and damaged his voice in a fire that killed the woman he hooked- up with after a concert. He has never been able to get past that day. He meets Carol Langston the owner of A Taste of Home, a cozy little coffee and pastry shop. She tries to get him to start living again and letting go of the past. It is Christmas time and good things happen then will Quentin let Carol in? I enjoyed reading this short story. Carol meets Quentin in her bakery cafe. The next time he comes in, she realizes who he is – Jackson Rose, former country music star who was injured in a fire and disappeared from public view. She pushes her way into his life, trying to get him out of hiding. This was a really nice book, short enough to read in one sitting, but with just enough background that the story is complete. And there’s the happy ending that I always want to see. I read it last evening, and enjoyed it very much. First read from this author – will be looking for more.

Carol is known the best cinnamon bun baker in town. She has agreed to head the town’s Winter Wishes Festival with the local children’s home as the recipient of the finds raised. Her thought is to get Quentin to perform. You see Quentin used to be a country singer by the name of Jackson Rose but after a tragic accident left him scarred he has decided to leave that life behind him. Can Carol convince Quentin to perform for the children? Can she do this without losing her own heart to the cowboy? This is a short story but it is a really good read. Enjoy!

The magic of love.
What drew me to this book was the title what kept me with the book was the writing. It is a quick read but one that is full of emotion and heart. Carol and Quentin were such splendid characters. If you believe in true love and Christmas magic then this is the book to pick up. I highly recommend it. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
