Destiny can pick someone else.Evil is slipping through the cracks of its prison, and all Soleden trembles in its wake. Upon realizing her mark as the prophesied Deliverer, Jayden conceals herself from her enemies and her Feravolk … herself from her enemies and her Feravolk countrymen. But after the harm the Feravolk caused to her family, she’s loath to rescue the not-so-innocent.
Hiding her mark was never easy, but now that Jayden knows both Queen Idla and the Feravolk are after her, hiding her gift of the Blood Moon will be impossible.

Scarlett Moon is a unique take on an old trope complete with an evil sorceress Queen and a deliverer who threatens her plans. But this trope exists for a reason, and S D Grimm plays it well.
Queen Idla has all of Soleden under her oppressive thumb. She seeks to kill every child born under the blood moon to ensure the deliverer dies.
The children of the blood moon are marked. And each one possesses unique gifts. But Jayden doesn’t know she is one of the Children–let alone the deliverer.
The twists and turns Scarlett Moon takes are dizzying…in a good way. Emotions run rampant. Telepathic animals add a perfect dose of humor. A love triangle adds a different level of tension. A rush to find a necessary ingredient to save one of the boy’s lives makes the pages turn faster. And the evil Queen and those she employs offer perfect villains to hate–and one to hope for freedom.
If you enjoy fantasy, heroes with unusual abilities, telepathic animals, twists, love triangles, ever-revealing connections, and a perfect balance of heart pumping scenes, humor, fun, and intrigue, Scarlett Moon is a must read.
Scarlet Moon is a YA high fantasy novel with Christian themes. Jayden was born the night of the Blood Moon, and like all others born that night, she has special abilities. One group, the Feravolk, claim she is the Deliverer for their people, but she wants nothing to do with that destiny or with the enemies of the Feravolk. Unfortunately, she might not get a choice.
Scarlet Moon was a fast-paced novel set in a fantasy world. I enjoyed reading it, but it took me a little while to figure out what was going on. I restarted it several times. But once I did, the story was pretty entertaining. I felt bad for Jayden — on the run, her family killed by the people who want her help, forced to trust people she doesn’t want to trust. But she grew and learned and developed her skills, both the magical ones and the practical ones. She had a hate-to-love romance developing as everything was going on as well.
Scarlet Moon was an interesting fantasy novel. It is the first in the series, so I would recommend you read the whole thing. I still need to…
I received a complementary copy of this book. All opinions are my own, and I was not obligated to provide a positive review.
What a ride! Reluctant chosen ones, special powers, a telepathic connection to wolves (and a dog), fantasy creatures, and mystery. I enjoyed this book a lot, especially Jayden and Ethan. I have a soft spot for empaths and protective guys who aren’t possessive alpha-males. And Westwind, because wolves
Overall I enjoyed the story, despite the fact I personally find love-triangle stories very difficult to read. It took awhile for me to connect to the characters, and I felt a bit jerked around in the opening chapters, but the complex plot and fascinating world held my attention until everything settled in. Strong violence and supernatural elements, but not over the top. Recommended for hardcore fantasy readers, both older teens and adults.
Sylvia Plath wrote, “I can never read all the books I want…” For most of us that is a sad truth. That means you should never put a really good book aside. Scarlet Moon by S.D. Grimm is one of those “really good books.” It is a fanciful story that grabs you from the first page and takes you on quite an adventure. S.D. Grimm has created a world full of vivid images, unexpected surprises, and boot quivering suspense. Since you can’t read everything, make sure that this is one you don’t miss.
