Miranda Comstock, widowed and impoverished, accepts a position in London caring for a child who was blinded in a fire. When she discovers the child’s mysterious guardian is the lover who’d seduced and abandoned her five years earlier, her first thought is to flee. But nine-year-old Phoebe depends on her and is blossoming under her care. Jeremy Montague returns from Jamaica to take up his duties … his duties as the new Earl of Longley and is shocked to find his former lover is his ward’s nurse. Believing she played him for a fool, he vows to remove her from his household, especially when his traitorous body begins to remember the passion they shared.
But there is a mystery afoot involving a long-ago disappearance, Miranda’s resemblance to a society debutante, and the child’s suppressed memories of the fire, which are starting to emerge. As Phoebe’s memories become sharper, Jeremy begins to suspect that he and Miranda were pawns in a twisted game. And both must learn to trust again, if they are to find their way back into each other’s hearts.

Second Chance Regency Romance
Lies tore them apart, but erroneous assumptions and pride kept them apart.
Scandal’s Child by Pamela Gibson is well written, but the story is also predictable. The characters are varied, and some are interesting. The lead characters, Jeremy and Miranda are okay, but nothing special. The happy ending of this stand-alone novel includes an epilogue,
Content alert: In addition to secular and religious swearing, there is also a descriptive sexually intimate scene and numerous sexual innuendos.
You get caught up in the story right from the beginning of the book. Immediately you are sympathizing with the main character Miranda. Enough mystery to keep you turning the pages to reveal the whole story. It is not long until you are rooting for the character in the books to get together and reveal all the secrets.
Can love conquer all??? When it is true and real, then absolutely!! Miranda and Jeremy are young and in love, each waiting for the other, a message, a visit..something…but Miranda never shows, and Jeremy’s mother delivers a message alright, just not the one Miranda was expecting to hear. Both are heartbroken and feel betrayed…but were they? Miranda marries the local doctor and Jeremy now sees her betrayal is complete…and Jeremy, off in Jamaica never sends a letter explaining himself…so Miranda knows his mother was telling the truth, betrayal complete. When Miranda’s husband dies and she has nowhere to go, Jeremy’s brother hires her on as a companion to a young blind girl..Phoebe, unbeknownst to Miranda, is Jeremy’s ward.
When Jeremy returns he is furious with his brother, still desirous of Miranda, yet both cannot get past the perceived betrayal…through tons of misunderstandings, miscommunication, and loads of love for a sweet little girl…as well as dealing with a mentally unstable, interfering and dangerous mother…Jeremy and Miranda navigate their way through a maze of doubt, confusion and mistrust and find their way right back where they started…to the place it all began, where they fell in love, and when the facts of that fateful night, meet the harsh light of day…and the unraveling of a teensy case of mistaken identity, or two come to light…these two characters wind up exactly where they should have been all along…in love, together, and living happily ever after. And I loved the entire journey!
Relaxing read. Couldn’t put it down. Very enjoyabe.
Enjoyed, then ready to read more in “series!”
An entertaining read with a happily ever after read. There are some twist and turns in the characters lives than are clear at the end but leaves you guessing for a while. It is a easy read but does hold your interest.
Enjoyed
A nice romantic novel. The insecure place of women.
It was a little slow at first but once I got into the characters I couldn’t put it down.
So sad but great!
Easy enjoyable read
I enjoyed this book. It was entertaining. Slow at times. And I felt we didn’t get beyond the surface of the characters. But it was still enjoyable.
Interesting concept dealing with the subject.
Great read. I recommend it.
A different approach to an era familiar story. Several situations going on at once.
The author manages to keep them stimulating with interesting characters, great atmosphere and wit. Did not care for the epilogue chapter bringing up a whole different unrelated subject. Yet, still good reading…
Good story but toooooo much sex.
A little different love story.
This was a good read. I am sure anyone who appreciates regency romance will find this book entertaining and well-written.
A good read
Shows how love and attention can change and heal a child.
