He stole a kiss, and found a wife.Ian McCaim is used to following in his brother’s footsteps—even if it takes him to medieval Scotland. When he finally completes the time travel ritual, the magic lands him next to Hightower Castle and his big brother, Greyson, is there to greet him. As soon as the rest of the family returns to Hightower, the McCaims can finally go home, but in the meantime, … the meantime, Greyson has a task for Ian: charm the man whose son is fated to play a pivotal role in the Scottish War of Independence. An easy task—or at least it would be if Ian were capable of behaving himself.
After a lifetime of having endured stares, Màiri Kelbrue is used to being looked at—the strange mark on her cheek ensures it. So when the handsome man she encounters near her father’s loch gawks at her, she assumes the worst. Until he kisses her. The passion she feels for the stranger stuns her—she’d thought to marry her childhood friend, but never once did he make her feel like this. And then the unimaginable happens—when the stranger escorts her home, he tells her very religious father exactly what happened between them.
Within a sennight, Ian and Màiri are rushed to the altar. Ian plans to return to the future sooner rather than later, but the bride he didn’t ask for soon becomes the only thing he wants. What will he do when it’s time to go home?
If you love sexy bad boy heroes with hearts of gold, heroines with the courage to fight for what they want, and love stories across time, then you’ll love this sweeping romance series.

Excellent ending to the series. Loved how a current day American dealt with time travel to the Scotland before the time of Robert the Bruce. I received an ARC of this story.
Ian is the youngest brother and the last one to find his way back in time looking for his mother and brothers. He was a playboy in his time and some of the things he would do then will not go over so well in medieval times. Ian decides to kiss the pretty Mairi and before he knows what has happened he is married to her and now has to decide what will happen to her when he goes back to his time. The chemistry and connection between these two continues to grow as they both try to over come different obstacles. There were a few situations that Ian found himself in that will put a smile on your face. Mairi is a strong character and can put Ian in his place before he even knows what has happened.
This was a fascinating series that kept you anticipating what would happen next. Every book in the series was a page turner with terrific endings.
I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Impetuous and impulsive, Ian McCaim takes a giant step into the past following in his brothers’ wake. Unlike them, he lands almost as the doorstep of Hightower Castle, where Greyson is in residence. What he doesn’t take into account is the beautiful Màiri Kelbrue, whom he kisses before he even asks her name, with disastrous results. Before he knows it, Ian is married to the angry Màiri, who had her heart set on marrying her childhood friend. Set in thirteenth-century Scotland, Ian flounders as he tries to get a foothold in the past, the least of his problems being linen shirts and questionable food. I felt for Ian as he struggled to break through the barriers holding him back from taking his place in his family, to gain their respect, and to find his own place in the world. Màiri also has a struggle, especially when she discovers that her husband comes from another time and place. Ultimately, she has to choose whether she will take the safe route and stay with her father or to throw her lot in with Ian should he achieve his purpose in Scotland. The plot is well written, with wit and humour and comes to a good conclusion. Whilst Ian and Màiri’s story is a standalone, the book really does need to be read in sequence with the preceding books. I received a copy of this novel as a gift an this is my honest and voluntary review.
I think this is my favorite McCaim Brother story is Ian. I started and finished this book in one day. I just couldn’t put it down. I think Ian’s actions and reactions to everything seemed to be the ones that I could relate to the most quite possibly because there really is no other reason for me to like this one the best. They all are great stories! I’m sad to see it all end, but look forward to reading more by both of these authors!
As the youngest of four brothers in a powerful family, Ian McCaim is rather used to following in his brothers’ footsteps. This time that lands him in Medieval Scotland to reunite with his brother Greyson and await the arrival of the other two brothers so they can all time travel back to their home in present day New Orleans together. While the wait, Greyson saddles Ian with the task of using his charm on a neighboring laird, a man whose as-yet-unborn son is destined to play a key role in the Scottish War of Independence, but only if the laird is brought back to supporting the Bruce clan. This should be an easy accomplishment for Ian, but he soon proves incapable of behaving himself with the laird’s daughter.
Lady Mairi Kelbrue is used to receiving prolonged stares from strangers and familiars alike due to the odd birthmark on her cheek. So when she meets a handsome man at the loch on her father’s land, she is unsurprised to find him staring at her. But when he inexplicably kisses her, she’s shocked by the action, and by what she feels. She’d been planning to marry her childhood friend, if she could convince her father to agree to it, but she’s never experienced such feelings for him.
When Ian escorts her home and, honest to a fault, blurts out the story of what happened to her father, he and Mairi quickly find themselves wed. Ian knows he won’t be staying in Medieval Scotland for long and vows to keep his distance, but despite his best intentions, he can’t seem to stay away from Mairi. Soon the wife he never thought to want becomes the center of his desires, there remains a dark cloud over the newlyweds, even as they grow closer: what will happen when his brothers are reunited and it’s time to return home?
This was such a fantastic ending to a series I have thoroughly enjoyed. I loved Mairi and Ian together and loved that he was so unafraid to show emotion and she was so accepting of him. This was a lovely, fast-paced read and I’m very satisfied with how the series wrapped up. This was an excellent collaboration and I can’t wait to see what’s next from both of these authors.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Scandalous Scot is book four in The Highlander’s Through Time series authored by Cecelia Mecca and Julie Johnstone. Scandalous Scot is Mecca’s handiwork and a delightful read. Ian McCaim is the youngest McCaim brother and the one who causes impetuous trouble wherever he goes. When he stumbles across a beautiful lass with a mark, he is instantly entranced. Mairi Kelbrue is used to people staring at the mark on her cheek, but when the strange man staring at her begins to kiss her, she is spellbound. “His lips touched hers, hesitant. She opened her mouth just slightly, as Ambrose had instructed, and MacKinnish swept inside. His tongue demanded, and she gave, unsure of precisely how to proceed.” I enjoyed this book. Out of the four, this one was my favorite. There are a few steamy sex scenes and some offensive language – I grow weary of the “F” word. But overall, a great book. I was given a copy of this book to read.
Fabulous series ending!
From the first word to the last this story had me engaged! Everything moves along in this book at great speed. Especially Ian. Ian and Mairi have an exciting love story. I liked the fact that they both have self doubts about themselves.
Great reading about all the previous characters and having Grey and Marian a large part of this story too!
Great series!
What a great ending to a fantastic series. I loved this book and once I started I did not stop until I finished. Ian is the youngest and last of the McCaim brothers to travel back in time in search of their mother. One of the things I love about this series is that it is men that are travelling back in time. While their struggles of adapting to the Middle Ages are much different than those of women, they are equally out of their element. And Ian bungles it just about from the start, all I’ll say is that his story is aptly titled! There is no mistaking the hard work that went into this collaboration between these two authors. The transitions between the books is seamless, the character appearances in each others books are as if written by the “original” author, and the overall story flows perfectly
I am sorry the series is over, but, wow, what a finish. Ian McCaim, baby brother, the last of the brothers to travel to 1286, finds the ancestral home quickly. Mairi Kelbrue believes herself in love with someone from a neighboring clan until she meets the stranger. Ian and Mairi have an instant attraction. I love the well-written plot and the growth of the main characters. Awesome end to a great series. I highly recommend all four books.
Such a wonderful finish to the Highlanders Through Time series and I must say, I’ll really miss these four swoon worthy brothers!! I loved Ian and Màiri’s story….he sure knows how to make a first impression! lol
Ian is the last of the 4 brothers to find his way to medieval Scotland by time travel and it doesn’t take him long to get into a heap of trouble! I really loved his character and it warmed my heart that he was the emotional one in the family. The scene when he meets his mother again had me reaching for the tissues!!
Màiri doesn’t know what to make of Ian, especially when he kisses her before he even knows her name:) I also loved her character, such a gentle soul. Having a birthmark on her cheek that she’s very self conscious of and hating the stares she gets, she’s quite surprised at how Ian handles it….I lost my heart to him right there and then!!
Thank you to Cecelia Mecca and Julie Johnstone for writing such a wonderful book series for us to read. You two rock!!
I have been a Cecelia Mecca fan for a long time. This writing duo, if they continue collaborating, I will follow them too!
This Highlanders Through Time series kept my interest and captured my heart!
Each story pulled me in and I turned page after page waiting for what would happen next. I wanted to slow down, to savor the story, but I just couldn’t!
I will re-read this series, and sure do hope there is more Mecca-Johnstone collaboration efforts in the future! Thank you for an Amazing Series!
I received an advanced reader copy, and this is my honest and voluntary review.
A perfect ending to the travel time saga! Ian, is the last brother to travel trough time to reunite with his family. There he meets Mairi and he can’t stop the attraction she evokes in him. A series of events develops between them forcing them to make a decision that will change their lives. Don’t miss this amazing story!
This is book number 4 and the story of Ian McCaim. Although I am sad to see this series end I loved Ian and Màiri’s story. With both of them struggling to find their places in the world, will they find love and happiness together? You don’t want to miss the epic conclusion of the McCaim brothers. I hope we see more of these characters in the future.
You can read this as a stand alone but I suggest reading the Highlanders Through Time series from the start you don’t want to miss out on these brothers amazing stories. Julie and Cecelia have done a phenomenal job collaborating on this series.
Ian McCaim is standing in his father’s study, and his brother Reik has just disappeared from standing beside him, they were both trying to time travel to the year 1286, holding on to a silver cross and saying a chant.Only Ian wasn’t able to say the chant correct, a few weeks later Ian tries again again and he is able to time travel to Scotland in the year 1286and falls in a bunch of snow near Hightower castle,in th the Highlands. Ian walks to Hightower castle and the first person to meet him is his brother Greyson, and Greyson tells Ian all that has happened to his other brothers, and he meets the uncle’s from that time in history.A week later Ian is out riding a horse and meets Mairi Kelbrue, she is trying to find Ambrose Dern who she thinks she wants to marry, he is so attracted to her by her beauty he kissed her as soon as they meet. When Ian meets Mairi father who is the Laird of Clan Kelbrue and very strict with her and he says they must be married. Ian thinks this is crazy but will marry her and when he leaves to go back to the 21 Century, she can then marry Ambrose.Ian and Mairi are very attracted to each other but He doesn’t want to make it a real marriage and get her pregnant and leave her.The story is set in Hightower castle with the people who love there,Ian meets his mother’s brothers and her father Laird MacKinnish, you can feel the love with the family members, and how his older brothers are involved with the history of Scotland.Ians mother has gone back to the 21Century to be with their father,as he is in a coma.Without giving away too much of the story I will say this ebook is just as wonderful to read as the first three books,in the series,I would recommend you start with Rhys story first to really understand how they time travel and why! I was given this ebook as a ARC for my honest opinion and review,I gave it a 5 if I could it would have been higher. The story keeps you so involved you want to keep reading,to find out if all the brothers return to the 21Century,and if the story ends well.I enjoyed the people from Hightower castle, who played a big part in this series, maybe they could have a book too.Julie Johnson and Cecelia Mecca have done themself proud writing this series,I hope you will love these books as much as I have,I thank both authors for letting me read and review these books.
The Highlanders Trough Time Series takes the characters from Medieval Scotland to present day New Orleans and back again. Shona MacKinnish was accidentally sent through time from thirteenth century Scotland to late twentieth century New Orleans, where she marries and raises a family. When she suddenly disappears, her husband insists she has been drawn back through time. Five years after her disappearance, her sons, using her journal and research found in their father’s study, unbelievably embark on their own time travel adventures. Will they be able to find their mother? Will they be able to find their way back to their own time? Will their return help their father?
The final story in the series is the story of Ian, the youngest McCaim brothers, and Màiri Kelbrue, daughter of the Laird if Clan Kelbrue, and where we find the answers to the above questions. Ian arrives in thirteenth century Scotland right outside Hightower Castle, the home of the MacKinnish clan. He is greeted by his older brother Greyson, who immediately enlists Ian’s help in convincing Laird Kelbrue to consider coming back to the side of the Bruce. When the group meets a young woman on the way, Ian is so taken that he kisses her. Not understanding the repercussions of this behavior in the thirteenth century, Ian tells all and quickly ends up married to Màiri. What happens now?
As the story unfolds, the group waits for the arrival of Rhys and Reik, and hopefully their mother, so they can attempt a return to the twenty-first century and home. Ian and Màiri are both shy and confused, married to strangers, and have a lot to work out before that happens, not the least of which is that it is going to happen. This a great story with wonderful characters (past and present) and a perfect ending for the series. There’s magic, drama, danger, an exciting blend of history, and a few surprises. You will laugh a lot and cry a little. Once again Tim Campbell does a fantastic job. His narration is spot on. I am not a time travel reader, but this series is top notch. I enjoyed it and highly recommend it.
Ian McCaim is the one brother left to time travel to find his Mother and brothers, to rescue them and bring them back home to New Orleans 2020 to save his Dad. He knows once he lands in Scotland 1286 to find his way to Castle Hightower his mother’s Clan’s castle. Màiri Kelbrue is used to being looked at because of the strange mark on her cheek, but when a stranger looks at her with awareness and proceeds to touches her face all reasons leave her as she feels passion for the first time with the handsome stranger. Ian and Mairi are instantly attracted to each other. Ian sees her for the attractive young woman she is and after a couple of weeks he finds himself married. He know life is complicated, he plans to leave soon, but his wife is a complication he had not planned on. A great story of family, family commitment and love!!! I was emotional moved by the love the brother’s share for each other and the commitment to find their mother in the 13th century. A great conclusion to the series!!! An excellent story I loved and I voluntarily wrote a review.
This is the fourth and last of the four McCaim brother stories about their time travel back to Scotland in search of their mother who was sent from the13th century to New Orleans before they were born. Thank goodness, she taught them how to ride, hunt, love Scottish history, and the eldest even got a degree in Gaelic. In this book, the youngest Ian makes final arrangements with his cousin for the care of his father and the shipping business and travels back in time with the necessary cross. He is so glad to see a traveler to save him in the freezing cold, he kisses Mairi and just then, his two uncles appear and escort her to her father’s castle. When Ian confesses to kissing her, the Laird immediately orders the two to be married. Ian finally sees the way of these times and agrees. The whole wedding party travels back to his mother’s family castle for the reception celebration. The plot is full of Ian’s adjusting, meeting one brother and his wife, trying to steer clear of his wife, while waiting for his other brothers to travel in winter to meet so they can return to their own time.
This was such a fun series to read and imagine how I would manage in Scotland in that time. I wonder if there is going to be a spin off series for the people in Scotland. I would love to read it 😉
New Orleans Headlines… McCaim family mystery! Father in a coma and three brothers have disappeared! Wait! Make that four!
Ian was the last of the brothers left at home after seeing his other three vanish Yep they were gone. If all was true time traveled back to find their mom who had been gone for five years. Oh yes, he was next.. As he held the cross and said the words..
Kinross Castle, Scotland 1286
Ian landed near the Castle and of all things found his brother Grey who quickly got him acclimated. All they both wanted was to bring their mother and other brothers and get back to the future/
But then he met Mairi. He thought her perfect. Her attraction was instant also.. Oh yes sparks flew.
So sad this is the last book in this amazing series created by two of the best authors of historical fiction. All I want to know, is that cross still around and will the words still work? Just want to go for a little visit! Cannot wait to see what they create next! Bravo!!
Scandalous Scot by Cecelia Mecca, Julie Johnstone is book 4 in the Highlanders Through Time Series. This is the story of Màiri Kelbrue and Ian McCaim. I have read the previous books which did add to my enjoyment of this one but you can read this as a standalone book if you wish to do so. Ian has traveled back in time to find his mother just as his brother’s did which Ian is now looking for them too. It doesn’t take Ian long before he falls in lust with Màiri but then feelings start to more forward into something more. This has been such a great series and this book was just as page turning as the others. Loved it.
