I finished the story, read the excerpt for the next one, and now I’m counting down until I can revisit Misty-on-the-Sound again.Pepper Sullivan is in trouble. She just moved back to her beachside hometown of Misty-on-the-Sound from New York City to open her own law office. Her real passion is singing, but practicing law is her bread and butter. Now the only other attorney in Misty (and the guy … Misty (and the guy everybody knows she hates) has fallen off a balcony and died—or was he pushed?
Pepper digs deep to solve the mystery with the help of her legal beagle Mr. Woogles, her former high school boyfriend who’s now the town sheriff, and her interfering mom. Along the way, she deals with the challenge of an old house, wacky clients, and the hot Italian doctor who buys the place next door.
With a song in her heart and dogged determination, will Pepper be able to solve the case and absolve the innocent?

Pepper Sullivan and her beagle, Mr. Woogles have
moved from New York City back to her hometown
of Misty-on-the-Sound. She is an attorney plus a
wanna be singer. Life around Pepper is very lively.
A wedding mishap, a corrupt shady lawyer, a fall
from the balcony next door resulting in death was
this accidental or deliberate, a good looking doctor
failed brakes and a ex-boyfriend as Sheriff makes
this storyline a action pact read.
Pepper decides to investigate with her legal beagle
at her side.
Fast moving, suspense, drama, adventure with
twists and turns. There is humor, captivating writing
and a fur baby hero in Mr Woogles.
I volunteered to read Scales of Justice: A Legal
Beagle Cozy Mystery. Thanks to Booksprout for
the opportunity. My opinion is voluntary and my
own.
I believe that this series is my favorite from Jessa Archer thus far. Pepper and Mr. Woogles make a wonderful pair as they complete the new setup to their life in Misty. Pepper has found herself on the list of suspects Filled with suspense and good characters, this book has filled a void in the cozy mystery world.

Pepper gets a chance to sing at a wedding. That is until the bride erupts in a huge scream! Her super expensive, large, and fancy port-a-potty has been used! OMG! The bride actually wants to file a lawsuit! Crazy rich people…smh…During this discussion at Pepper’s home office, there is another scream…it’s her former employee who just quit because she didn’t want to work on a “poop” case. There is a dead body in front of her and he’s fallen from the balcony of the home next door that is being turned into a spa. Good thing Pepper and Mr. Woogles are on the case!
The characters are so wonderful and truly funny. Pepper’s mom is a trip, always trying to set her up with someone. Her friends that run the florist shop had me lol’ing the whole time they were in a scene. Sergio especially! Read the prequel to this also. It’s a cute novella and introduces everyone and gives great background to the series. Love it!

Jessa Archer does not disappoint in her cozy mysteries! The characters are fun to get to know, the story line is entertaining and she knows how to grab your attention from the first page to the last page. You’ll be waiting as patiently as you can for the next book in the series. This is the start to a great, fun to read cozy mystery series. I can’t wait for the next one. Well done Jessa Archer!
In Scales of Justice, Pepper Sullivan has moved back to her hometown and is working on setting up her law firm. When the only other lawyer in town, who just happens to be a corrupt lawyer she had a run in with, falls off his balcony and dies, suspicion falls on Pepper. Did he just fall off the balcony or was he pushed. Pepper will do what she needs to do to clear her name, protect the people she loves and and try to find who killed her competition, even if it means doing the investigating on her own.
Plenty of twists, suspense and entertainment to keep you turning every page until the end.

Since she came back to her home town, Pepper has been the second lawyer in town. Number one was the widely disliked Roger Winthrop. A few weeks ago she had turned him in to the Bar Association for swindling her out of $1700 cash when she moved into her new home.
Pepper also recently began singing again, to hilarious results.
More trouble for Pepper when Roger meets awful circumstances.
The crazy small town of Misty on the Sound might be very much intense at nasty gossip, but her mom and their circles of friends stand behind their own when Pepper is in danger.
With Mr Woogles the beagle and her mom and friends at her side, maybe Pepper is better off without a beau for now!
Fun KU read!
I got an advance copy of this story from Booksprout. I have read this book and several others from this author on Kindle and Kindle Unlimited.

How can you not like a book that has a dog named Mr. Woogles? Pepper and all of the others are wonderful characters that I can become friends with. The mystery is intriguing enough to keep you glued to this story until the end. Great book.

Pepper was able to get a chance to sing at a wedding but a scream interrupted it. The bride had to use the facilities but someone had used the toilet ahead of her. Later that week she had the newly weds in her law office wanting to sue. She shook her head at the “poop” case. But before they could work out details her assistant quit and there was another scream. Only this one was from next door and when she went to investigate she saw Mr. Winthrop dead, her rival lawyer. Now Logan is questioning her as a possible suspect.
What a fun and interesting cozy mystery. The characters are well described and are memorable, especially the more kooky ones. The writer put together an easy to read mystery full of surprises, clues and subplots that keeps you guessing as to who-done-it until the end. The dialogue is great and the scenery descriptions allow the reader to visualize where the story takes place. The use of humour, romantic interests, gossip, suspense and danger, all added to the amazing storyline. It is a great story and definitely if your into cozy mysteries I suggest you get this series.
