I liked the flow of this story in that it was a bundle of chaos interwoven with a gentle leaning towards romance, friendship and moving on. Good characters. Had my heart racing, several times feeling like it would come right out of my chest.
This was just an okay read for me. It started off great and hooked me in right away. The first few chapters were really engaging. Then it started to drag. I grew bored throughout a lot of the middle. Then I felt like the ending up and suddenly happened, wrapped everything up in a perfect little bow, and the book ended.
I do like Lance, Morgan, and Sharp as characters. I guessed parts of the end correctly, but others were a surprise, so that’s a plus. Wishing there was a touch more romance, but I have a feeling there will be in the future. That said, at this point I’m unsure if I want to read the next in the series to find that out.
Also, note about the audiobook. I listened to part of this and read others. I feel the narrator did a pretty poor job. Her male and children voices were just odd. I was even more bored listening to her read it than I was just reading it myself. Perhaps if I had just read it all myself this would have been more interesting to me.
The prologue scared the **** out of me
I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. Leigh creates sympathetic, wonderful characters and appeals to romantics, straight suspense and thriller readers. Recommend.
I liked the mystery and the slow-building romance, though the writing felt a little clunky at times. I am interested to see how Ms. Leigh builds Morgan’s and Lance’s characters, and will hopefully see some of the secondary characters show up in other books, so I’m looking forward to reading the next in the series.
If this is considered romance, it’s perfect for me! I don’t like mushy romance stories and don’t need to read about graphic sexual encounters incessantly. The action in this book is perfect – fast-paced and twisted. A page turner with likable heroes and a nice background. I enjoyed reading this book to the last page!
I enjoyed Say You’re Sorry. It kept me guessing until the end. The characters were believable and well written. I enjoying following their path to find the killer and that it was not predictable or easy to determine who the killer was.
This series is a lot of mystery, suspense & romance. It’s extremely hard to figure out who dunnit until the very last chapters.

I’ve found a new author & that’s a good thing as I love to binge read! Miss Leigh hit all the right notes. A romantic interest complete with “baggage”, a brilliant professional, good guys, bad guys-a-plenty, a good guy wronged. The list goes on and on. What’s not to love?!
Loved Morgan Dane and Lance, each with their own baggage, and how they are older and not silly. Plot is a little too predictable, but still easy to read.
This was a predictable crime legal book. It was like so many others I’ve read before. Nothing spectacular about it. There was just too much lust-enthused moments with tingling hands and quivering body parts.
The author did manage to surprise me however, by not having her 2 main characters jump into bed together. Sure they did everything but have sex on the journey. And I’m sure future volumes of this crime/romance series will explore more of these same “delicacies” and “delights” with greater detail than anyone of us should ever read, and so I plan to avoid future encounters. As it was, I found myself skimming through the gushing parts.
I did laugh out loud at one line: “Her ovaries responded with yum.” Wow! Yes, I guess my expectations were way TOO high with this one to expect less bodice-ripping and more crime solving. AHEM!
Two stars from me simply because she kept it “clean” albeit steamy.
Page turner! Well written. Had me hooked in the first chapter. Would like to read more from this author.
An ending totally didn’t expect!
I enjoyed this first book in the Morgan Dane series. It is full of twists, deception and secrets. The author draws you into the story and keeps you guessing to the very end; it is a thrilling, suspenseful read. I liked that Morgan was a strong character, using her intelligence to solve things but still having a softer side too. She and Lance compliment one another, they work well as a team and I will enjoy reading more stories containing these two characters. I appreciate how the author is expanding the world of Scarlet Falls by giving different characters their own spin off stories. This adds depth to the world and is an unusual and refreshing find, as most murder mystery books usually concentrate on only one or two main characters and keep secondary charters as minor players. It is a suspenseful, entertaining story and I look forward to reading the next in the series.
Read this as an audio book, I saw this on Kindle Unlimited and this isn’t typically the kind of book I read, but I ventured out..and WOW am I glad. As soon as I read the first page I felt like I couldn’t breathe. This book draws you in, enchants you. I loved going on the adventures with Lance & Morgan. I am looking forward to reading the rest of Melinda’s series. HIghly, HIGHLY recommend.
Enjoyed this book. I like it because it was hard to figure out whose the murder was. Hate it when you can figure it out before you are half way through
Excellent
This was the first book a read from this author. I really like the flow of the story and twists. Looking forward for the next book.
Oh what a tangled web the author weaved in the art of deceiving. The murder of a girl opens a Pandora’s box of a litany of secrets, lies and other nefarious happenings in Scarlett Falls.
This new series is set in a location fans of Melinda Leigh’s will be familiar with. It’s a spin off of her Scarlet Falls trilogy series and features the sister of Stella Dane who was the heroine in the last book of that series.
Morgan Dane is a widow who was left with 3 young daughters to raise on her own after her husband died in Iraq. She’s recently moved back home to Scarlet Falls to live with her grandfather who helps with the girls. After two years of taking a break from her job as an assistant DA to grieve, she has decided to go back to work in the same field but before she starts her plans get derailed when she decides to be the lawyer for a 20 year old family friend who has just been accused of viciously murdering his girlfriend. She enlist the help of a childhood friend, Lance Kruger who is currently working as a Private Investigator for Lincoln Sharp.
Great start to the series with a strong female lead who uses her intelligence to solve problems, can physically take care of herself but yet also isn’t afraid to show a vulnerable side. Lance is also a strong leading male character but without being to over the top alpha. He and Morgan work great together along with Sharp and I look forward to seeing them solve more cases together in future books.
I really enjoyed this book. It kept me guessing until the killer is finally revealed. It seemed slow in certain spots, and I was unsure of the purpose of certain characters. Overall I found myself unable to put this book down.
Enjoyed the series very much!
