One of my favorite authors–this book is great! Grabs you from the first page and doesn’t let go.
Say You’re Sorry Finished the audio version of Melinda Leigh’s Say You’re Sorry a couple of weeks ago, and I adored it! The suspense and characterization was impeccable, and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. Pick this one up!! ~ Heather Sunseri, author of Exposed in Darkness
I recommend Melinda Leigh as a whole and the Morgan Dane and Scarlet Falls series in particular– the mysteries are juicy, the couples believable, and the Happy-Ever-After hard earned. For the romantic suspense reader they’re everything we want between the covers 😉
Well, I’m definitely reading the rest of this series.
Well-balanced pace, fleshed-out characters, nice twists, and good character dynamics.
The author is good at describing all the legal matter to a novice, meaning there isn’t a lot of instances where I have no idea what the jargon means.
This general market read is well written with complex characters who are admirable and interesting. A teen wrongly accused and multiple parents are depicted realistically as are their actions. The potential aggressors represent a variety of types of people with issues that are only too familiar and plausible. This is the first book in a series that promises to be entertaining and informative in an unobtrusive to the story way.
Mature themes. Strong language. Vivid imagery. Fast-paced and intense events.
Melinda Leigh is one of my new favorite authors! I have read most of the Morgan Dane series and love her character. A STRONG, SMART, FEMALE LEAD whose character is similar to many everyday working women who are raising children as a single parent, while building a career.
This book was simply spectacular. The rhythm, the plot, the characters, the suspense in the story… Everything was carefully managed to make us, readers, enjoy the book, engage in the investigation and feel part of everything is happening in front of us. And it was perfect! The author played a little game, alternating the characters in each chapter, and that helped to built the tension, but also helped to meet them better.
Morgan Dane surprised me as character. I loved her evolution in the book, her sense of justice and her determination about finding the truth, but also how she endured her grief until she was ready to let go and move on.
While reading this book I remember what I felt the first time I read Michael Connelly (one of my favorite writers) or David Baldacci, because I had the same feeling reading Say you’re sorry. Pure and unadulterated emotion. What a great story it was! It was love at first chapter, my friends. Can’t wait for you to read this book.
You can find this book in your favorite retailers and bookstores. I bought mine on Amazon.
I loved this book! Had me sitting on the edge of my seat the entire time. Melinda knows how to craft wicked stories!
A book that grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go until the riveting conclusion.
From the first page of this book, I was hooked. The writing was fast-paced and, I could feel the intensity of finding out who killed this young teenager. Very well done.
It’s okay pretty good book
I absolutely love this series! I’ve read each and every book. I’m patiently awaiting the next… This is one series you don’t want to miss! I highly recommend reading all of Melinda Leigh’s books! When I’m not writing or editing, I’ve been known to binge read on her books. They’re that good! You won’t be disappointed.
I read this series first without knowing there was another one leading up to it. Now, I have to go back and read it, too. So happy I stumbled upon Melinda’s awesomeness.
very scary and tragic ! the ending will stay with me forever !!!!!
I’ll definitely be reading the additional books in the series!
I have read most all her writing and absolutely enjoy each of her books
My first Melinda Leigh book and it didn’t disappoint. Loving the main characters. Morgan is one tough cookie, I literally want to be her. And Lance is major swoon material.
If you like your books with a little romance, some suspense and a side of murder, then this is your book. Read it!
I’m on to #2 in the series!
I am so excited that Melinda Leigh is writing a spin-off of her wonderful Scarlet Falls trilogy. SAY YOU”RE SORRY (Morgan Dane #1) takes me back to one of my favorite fictional cities.
Morgan Dane returns home to Scarlet Falls with her three young daughters after the death of her military husband in the Middle East. Living with her grandfather and a teenager rescued in a previous Scarlet Falls book, two years has passed and Morgan decides to return to work as an ADA. She wants to start moving forward at least professionally with her life.
Lance Kruger was an SFPD officer, but is currently training to be a private investigator while recovering from a gunshot wound. His mentor, Lincoln Sharp started his own P.I. agency after retiring from the SFPD. Lincoln is more than just the ex-detective who worked Lance’s missing father’s case, he has been a father figure and an enormous help with Lance’s mother.
When Morgan’s sometimes babysitter, Tessa is found raped and violently murdered, the blame falls on her boyfriend, Nick. Nick is Morgan’s young neighbor who plays chess with her grandfather and reads to her girls. Even though the evidence is strong, Morgan just cannot believe Nick is guilty. Morgan turns down her ADA job and decides to not only defend Nick against false charges, but to find the real killer with the help of Lance and Lincoln.
This book takes off and keeps a fast pace throughout. With multiple suspects there are many unexpected twists and turns in the plot. As you turn the pages to find justice for Tessa, many other small town secrets become unearthed. You also follow the story through both Morgan’s and Lance’s points-of-views, with some internal insights from the killer and Nick’s time in lock-up. I loved the multiple views because they pull you into the head and intense emotions of each character in every situation.
I was happy to learn from the author that there are at least four more proposed books for this series and Morgan will continue being the main character. This book has the beginnings of a new romance for Morgan with Lance and I am looking forward to its progression. I love a series that not only gives me great thrills and/or mysteries, but I get to follow a couple that I want to succeed in love.
I am looking forward to the next book and a return to all of these great characters!
Loved this book and so glad to have found a new series to read. The characters are different and the way the author develops them over the course of the story is well done. The story arc moves well with lots of twists and turns in the plot and some good red herrings to keep me guessing. I have to say I was hoping for a more definitive conclusion on some secondary characters but thanks mostly because I’m really vindictive!
I loved the ending and I appreciated a lot of the loose ends were tied up. I’m looking forward to the next book.

Say You’re Sorry is the first book in the Morgan Dane series. It’s been a while since I’ve ready Melinda Leigh and I’ve forgotten how much I enjoy her books. I wasn’t sure about who the killer was and loved that I was unsure throughout. I loved that this a combination of romantic suspense, legal thriller and murder mystery. It brought my past of loving mysteries and my present of enjoying romance together. I enjoyed this book but got frustrated with the technical issues.
The best crime thrillers have main characters who are tough, action-oriented, and vulnerable. Morgan Dane is no exception. The daughter of a cop, she’s tough when she needs to be. She’s comfortable with weapons and doesn’t have a problem physically defending herself. But inside, she’s hurting. Bad. And that’s what made me follow her to the end.
Losing your life partner is bad enough. But when a young girl she cares about is found brutally murdered, well. Your average person might go off the rails. Not Morgan. She’s committed to truth and justice, even if it means throwing away a chance at a high-profile career.
Like Morgan, Say You’re Sorry is tough when it needs to be. But it’s also soft and afraid. Morgan might be flawed. But on her worst day, she’s a hero worth rooting for.
