I never thought I’d achieve my dream of playing for the NHL—Not while I’m my mom’s sole caretaker. But the Carolina Reapers offer me a deal I can’t refuse:A spot on their roster and top-rated support for my mom’s battle with Parkinson’s. Balancing an NHL schedule and my mother’s care fills every minute of my day,But one glance at Scythe’s bartender, and I’m looking for ways to make time.Echo Hayes … ways to make time.
Echo Hayes is my exact opposite: she’s wild—I’m reserved. She’s fearless—I’m careful.
She’s a 1 a.m. last call, and I’m a 7 a.m. practice.
On paper, we shouldn’t work.
But in reality, our chemistry burns hotter than these Charleston nights.
We’ve agreed to no-strings,
But every taste leaves me wanting more.
And more is where she draws the line.
The past haunts her, and my obligations own my present.
But it doesn’t stop me from wanting a future with her.
Our worlds are drastically different—
And when they collide?
The fallout jeopardizes my contract, and puts our hearts on the line.
Now I’m the one begging her to risk it all—
Or we’ll lose everything worth fighting for.
Welcome to the Carolina Reapers, Samantha Whiskey’s newest hockey series where the chill of the ice meets sultry southern nights.

For books and books I wanted for Sawyer to get his shot and oh damn, I knew Samantha would make it worth the weight.
Samantha’s hockey boys are my total kindle crack and man this book just hits me with all the feels they are known for.
A swoon-worthy, surprisingly dirty hero and a touch take no prisoners heroine that needs to let herself fall.
Plus the bonus peeks at the continuation of the Axel/Lukas bromance and Sawyers own friendship goals worthy relationship with Harper and Faith all add up to Pipe Dreams
If you love sports romances, Samantha Whiskey knows her hockey and combines realistic love stories into every book along with lots of action, both on the ice and in the bedroom! Her books are engaging page-turners, because you never know what will happen next.
Although you don’t have to read the Seattle Sharks series, several of the characters overlap into the new series featuring the players on the Carolina Reapers professional hockey team. Sawyer McCoy is one of the characters. We met him when he was still a goalie in college and friends with two of the re-occurring female characters who are now married to a member of the team. He is dedicated, loyal, a loving son, honest and moral, and also built like a brick house as most professional athletes are. A perfect combination.
He meets our heroine, Echo, by happenstance, which is one of the things I love in a romance. So many of the other tropes are overdone and it’s nice when people meet and nature takes its course. Echo sadly doesn’t have any living family members left and is guarded at only 23 years young. She and Sawyer have an immediate connection and friendship, and amazingly hot chemistry. She is vulnerable and very protective of her heart, and I love how confident and mature Sawyer is for only being 23. He lets her know in no uncertain terms that his feelings are genuine; he is so patient and stands by her and gains her trust.
What I like most about this series is reading the commentary and interactions from the reoccurring characters in each book whom I’ve gotten to know. It makes you feel as if you are part of their inner circle and one of their friends. I can’t wait to read more…who is up next I don’t know and I usually can figure it out! Great job Samantha! Sawyer was a more emotional read with angst but their journey was well worth it. I love a happy ending.
I freaking loved Sawyer. He always seemed like the quiet one in the other books but he sure does shine in his own book.
After reading Axel and seeing Sawyer and Echo mildly flirting with each other I was beyond thrilled to see that they get together and also they ticked off an item on my Sawyer/Echo wish list.
This book will have you flipping those virtual pages as fast as you can read them. I loved the banter, the sexy times and heartfelt times.
Samantha has a way with her writing that just draws you in and I cannot get enough of these hockey gods. More, more, more. I need more!
So, who is next? Connor, Connell? I guess we will just have to wait.
A witty, entertaining, and fun story. Samantha Whiskey never disappoints, she certainly knows how to write a captivating, loving, passionate, and heartwarming story. I absolutely loved this book.
Such a wonderful read!! I’m loving these new characters & spin off series. Beautiful sassy ladies with sexy alpha hockey players so what’s not to love!
Sawyer and Echo have a lovely story. She is strong, independent and has learnt to look after herself by building a wall around her emotions. Sawyer has been a carer for everyone for years. He finally gets his chance to play in the NHL and life starts to throw up new possibilities for a different future.
I feel like I’ve been waiting for Sawyer’s story for so long and I was not disappointed!
Sawyer grabbed a piece of my heart when we first met him in the Shark’s series and I was so excited to find out he was going to make the Reapers team and get his steamy story. I have to say I was surprised for it to be with Echo, but I should have never doubted Ms. Whiskey because dang was their chemistry hot and to quote Sawyer they really were broken puzzle pieces who fit together perfectly.
I’m a sucker for a strong sassy leading lady and Echo was fantastic. I really loved hearing about her past and seeing what made this woman become a tough survivor. She showed so much compassion and tenderness for Sawyer and he needed that to finally come from someone.
Absolutely love the family we are getting with this Reaper’s team, almost as much as the Shark’s, and so excited to see who’s story is next!
The only thing keeping it from being a 5 star for me was a few to fair amount of grammatical issues (repeated words in sentences, here for her). There weren’t enough to ruin it just enough to get me out of the flow of the story and mess with it a little.
I’m really enjoying this new series by Samantha Whiskey. I’ve yet to come across a book, or series, of hers that I don’t like though. I love the way she writes and each book has me hooked from beginning to end. Sawyer is super sweet and sexy, and I’m so glad that he finally got the break he wanted and deserved. Echo was very relatable for me and I could understand her struggle to let the past go and move on. I enjoyed seeing the couple’s relationship develop and grow as they spent more time together. This story leaves your heart yearning and ready to jump into the next book. I’m looking forward to seeing who gets their own story next!
*I voluntarily reviewed an advance complimentary copy of this book
Another awesome edition by Samantha whiskey! I love how Sawyer gets his chance and just rocks it! He never was able to follow his dream hockey dream because he needed to take care of his mom which is admirable. Once he gets the chance to try out he ends up in Echo’s bar and they strike up a friendship but it is more than that…they have incredible chemistry.
Sawyer gets picked up by the team…they help move his mom to Charleston and his dream is realized, but along the way he realizes he wants more…he wants Echo as part of that dream. Echo has a past and is a bit gun shy for relationships…her ex tries to ruin what she has going with Sawyer.
This is an awesome book and I HIGHLY recommend it and the others by Samantha…I cannot wait for the next book in the series!
I was offered an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I am a hockey freak! And I just recently started reading romance novels, and I have loved ALL of Samantha’s books, and this one certainly did not disappoint! A must read, and I can about guarantee that I will read all of these again! And HOT??? OMG!!!!
Sawyer dreams of playing in the NHL who didn’t make a team the first time he tried out. Due to injuries he now has a second chance with the Carolina Reapers and they are doing everything both personally and professionally to ensure it is a success.
Echo is a woman with a painful past who owns a bar that is frequented by the team. From the moment she and Sawyer meet they have an instant chemistry but will her past and his present be too much for them to overcome?
It was fun watching the relationship between Sawyer and Echo unfold as Sawyer is so patient as he shows Echo by word and deed that he is someone she can count on to be there for her.
I have to say that this series just keeps getting better and better! I thought the last book was my favorite in the series so far…until SAWYER! I just loved this book! I was so happy to see Sawyer and Echo get together. What a great story – engaging, hard-to-put-down and downright hot! I DARE you to read this book! 😉 You won’t be sorry!
We have gotten to know Sawyer in Samantha’s other books. He was the roommate of Faith Gentry who married Lukas and Harper who is with Noble and she is the sister of the owner of the Carolina Reapers. Sawyer is the epitome of the good son, he’s been taking care of his mom since his dad left when he was young. In fact, Sawyer is such a good son; he doesn’t know how just to be Sawyer.
And here is where the magic happens in all of Samantha Whiskey’s books about the glorious guys and girls who make up the worlds of the Seattle Sharks and Carolina Reapers. There’s a ton of romance, this time with a lovely purple-haired, tattooed bar owner who has a full-sized badass scythe above the bar. Both Echo and Sawyer need to learn live beyond the emotional weights they have tied to themselves in hopes of being “good enough.”
Thrown in we get to know more of the Carolina Reapers; Cannon (who is reading Ayn Rand!), Connell (who seems to have a penchant for streaking), and Logan. Not to mention a couple of females we are bound to be seeing more of…how can we not with a name Persephone?!
I love the world that Samantha Whiskey creates and I enjoy the time I get to spend there getting to know her characters and really liking them. They are flawed, funny, and build a family that you would want to be a part of, not to mention they play HOCKEY!
Ever since Sawyer was introduced back with Faith and Harper, I have been awaiting his story. I thoroughly enjoyed Sawyer and Echo’s story of opposites attracting. Sawyer’s devotion to his Mom is swoon-worthy, and add the Reapers sense of family and devotion to each other you’ve got the dream that we all wish for. The perfect man, the independent fierce woman, and the non-biological family that comes together as one.
Samantha Whisky has done it again, and I look forward to the next Reapers’ story!
Yay!! As hoped Sawyer secures a contract with an NHL team.
Sawyer is the second ‘Reaper’ to have his story and as always Samantha Whiskey never disappoints.
We’ve met Sawyer in previous novels as the college roommate of Faith and Harper and we have grown to love him and his commitment to looking after his poorly mother.
We also know Echo from ‘Axel’ the debut novel in this series.
Their story to HEA is so sweet and there is no doubt that Echo was in need of someone that would break down her beliefs in regards to relationships and love. I did grow to love her, despite feeling that, at times, she was incredibly needy!
All in all, a good addition to the series and another appetiser of what’s to come.
We’ve been waiting for Sawyers story and the wait was worth it! Holy chemistry! Loved him with Echo, she brings the alpha in Sawyer and together they make sense. I loved all the feels that I got from the start to the end it never ended. Plenty of drama, intense sexual heat and of course hockey actions that made this a must one click. I need more of this series now and can’t wait to see who gets their HEA.
Perfect steamy tension-filled hockey romance! Sawyer is the perfect book boyfriend. You cannot miss this one!
Sawyer is book 2 in The Carolina Reapers series. Sawyer and Echo are each other’s worst enemies as Sawyer has the weight of the world on his shoulders with looking after his mum and finally been given a shot at his NHL dream, Echo never lets anyone close as they either die or leave, they have an attraction that is off the charts and can’t keep away from each other will they be able to sort though all their issues to make it work or will Echo’s past wreck everything. Another awesome read from Samantha Whiskey.
4.5 Stars
Sawyer is the newest member of the Carolina Reapers, a NHL team. He loves and cares for his mother who has a debilitating disease, she always comes first in his life. Echo is the proprietress of the local bar. Complete opposites if each other, they decide to have a no strings relationship. My first book by Samantha Whiskey and I really enjoyed it. The whole team are a family, I love the way they all support each other. The story is sweet and steamy.
Review copy was received for a honest review.
I’m feeling so content right now.
Every time I read Samantha Whiskey’s work I want to skip adulting and just devour her book. So I did exactly that today. I’m not even sorry- it was so totally worth it.
This lady has some serious voodoo magic in her books that makes me love every single one of the guys- again, I’m not sorry. They are all totally swoon worthy and give me ALL THE FEELS.
Echo, I think she is one of my favourite heroines. Feisty, smart, gorgeous and a little crazy. Her random facts and banter with Sawyer had me grinning like a kid in a candy store and at one point I even spat my coffee everywhere
If you haven’t figured it out yet, I freaking LOVED it.
