Gwen Rivers has written a creative and entertaining story combining Fae & Shifters. I thought that I would just listen to a small portion of the audiobook before retiring for the night, but the story kept me enthralled. I enjoyed this story and recommend it to others who enjoy this genre, but it is for more mature readers as there is some inappropriate sexual content that is related, although not described in graphic detail. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Jacqueline Rendell’s narration is great and she adds to the entertainment factor of the book. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.
I received this as an ARC absolutely amazing read. I loved this book couldn’t put it down you can imagine everything that was going on in your mind in this book she did great job writing this book. So if you are looking for a great read this is your book to read.
I received a arc from the author and this book was amazing.
I had read the Unseelie Court series a little while ago and was left hungry. I wanted more and Gwen Rivers certainly delivered. Savior’s Spell is full of suspense, neck breaking action (I thought I was going to be whiplashed a couple of times), deceit, betrayal and budding love. The main characters are meticulously and slowly developed. Even the secondary characters contribute to give this on going story substance. My favorite is North. He is like a breath of fresh air. There is no excess fat here either. Everything has a reason and a purpose. What really holds this story together are the spices…pinches of romance, sprinklings of humor and cupfuls of magic. It’s all mixed and tossed together well to satisfy even the most discerning of fantasy readers.
Emma is out to avenge the death of her family by killing as many Dark Fae as she possibly can. Then she meets a mere child who has managed to survive this wicked and violent world alone. She also meets Liam and now her world is forever changed. I loved the way this story evolved. Emma follows her own mantra version of the serenity prayer and it suits her.
“Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And the ability to change it.”
~Emma
One of the things I thoroughly enjoyed was the reappearance of characters from The Unseelie Court…Nic, Aiden and others. That was the icing on the cake. Be assured, you don’t have to read the Unseelie series first to wholly enjoy this Spellcaster series although I would certainly read them at some point. Sometimes, it’s a nice twist to delve back into the past to read how it all began For me, Savior’s Spell whets the appetite, tickles the heart and stabs the imagination for what is to come. More, please.
Note: I consider this series for older YA readers, 16 or 17 and adult. There is violence, sexual scenes and innuendo. I wouldn’t give this book to my 13 year old granddaughter to read.
This is my first read from this author and i’m sure glad that i gave it a try. The story grab me from the first page and i tried to drag it out cause i didn’t want it to end but couldn’t put it down and finish it in one sitting. This is a well written Urban Fantasy story
that will get you hooked.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am volontarily leaving a review.
As was my habit when entering a new territory, I closed my eyes and silently recited my own version of the Serenity prayer. Grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change, the courage to change the things I can. And the ability to make a difference. Then I opened my eyes and took my first hit of New York air…”
Emma Slade wants to avenge the deaths of her mother and brother, but she’s not sure how to. Half fae and half human, she nows she’s someone who can deal with the “twisted ones”, but is she the actual Savior foretold in myths and legends of the Seelie and Unseelie Courts?
Her actions reach the Werewolves, lead by Liam, their Alpha, who is strangely connected with Emma…as she is connected with him. United in protecting a strong, young were who has bonded with Emma and could be her downfall.
Are there things not known? Heck, it’s Gwen Rivers world, and she seems to be the only one unspooling the thread that started with Nic and Aiden in “The Unseelie Court” series.I love these characters as well; especially North and Kiesha. The Unseelie Court laud the foundations…now,Rivers is building the house. Highly Recommended 5/5
[disclaimer: I received this book from the author and voluntarily reviewed it]
This series is a spin-off from the Unseelie Court-series by Jennifer L. Hart (she changed the name for the genre) and I really enjoyed reading it. Emma Slade travels to New York to hunt for dark fae after the death of her mother and brother. She is a spellcaster (half fae, half human) and after saving a fae she is followed by Liam, alpha werewolf, who is quite interested in her. He and his pack also save fae and he soon recognizes Emma as his mate.
I really liked the fact Liam did not just simply fall in love with Emma because she is his mate. He wants their relationship to grow naturally, but then he also gets some news on the prophecy-front about ‘the savior’ (Emma). Will they have a future together?
The story was entertaining and I loved seeing Nic/Aiden and Addison again. However, this story does not pack the punch like the Unseelie Court-series. This might be because that was written as a 4-book story and this one seemed to end quite neatly at the ending. I was kept wondering if there was more to come about Emma/Liam or that the next book will be about others?
Overall, another great story by a great author. I look forward to the next!
Slow burn paranormal romance. The book isn’t based on the relationship but that storyline is woven in and when I say it’s a slow burn I mean it. Emma is a spell caster (half Fea /half human) and on a mission to get revenge for her families gruesome murders. This leads her to New York and drops her in the center of the paranormal war. A fun book with a lot of heart! There’s some hard moments and some triggers but the over all is just a girl with a big heart on a mission.
Savior’s Spell by Gwen Rivers is a paranormal romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Jacqueline Rendell.
This is the first book of Gwen’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. I absolutely loved all the characters. I cannot wait for the second book in the series Savior’s Hex to be released on audible so I can get more of Liam and Emma.
Jacqueline did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of her projects in the future.
I would highly recommend this series if you love Paranormal Romances.
Excellent short fantasy. Very original. Great plot and characters. I received a free review copy of the audio version of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Absolutely AMAZING! Savior’s Spell pulled me into Emma and Liam’s world from the first words. I was only planning to look over ARC before going to sleep at 1 AM but Emma wouldn’t let me go until halfway through the book, I fell asleep still holding my Kindle and wearing my glasses. As much as I loved Nic and Aiden’s story throughout The Unseelie Court limited series, I think I enjoyed Savior’s Spell even more. Maybe it is a case of a book in hand because all of the books of The Unseelie Court are fantastic.
I pre-ordered but couldn’t wait so I was delighted to get an ARC of Savior’s Spell, but my love of the book is all mine. This book is well worthy of shouting about.
I wasn’t sure what to expect since this was my first book from Gwen Rivers but it surpassed anything I could have imagined! I honestly can’t wait for the next installment in the series! It has well developed characters, a plot that just keeps giving, and is well timed in its humor. I don’t like recapping the book summary but I will say that if you like paranormal and stubborn characters there is no reason for you to make any plans tonight because you will be binge reading this book all the way through!
