Ok this is the second book by Kadie Scott that I have had the pleasure of reading. I must say I am becoming a huge fan. I already bought her last book the Attraction Equation to read. I read and reviewed The Wrong Kind of Compatible not long ago and loved it! So I was not surprised when I read this book, that I would love it.
In this story Sheriff Cash Hill is a single father of a sweet 4-year-old and a recent widower of a year now. He is struggling through life and can’t seem to find his happiness. His daughter is suffering the same fate. That is until his wife’s best friend Holly moves to town.
Holly has moved back to her hometown as a favor to her dead best friend. She promised Georgiana that she would look after her daughter Sophie should anything happen to her. So she has moved back home after her college degree and gotten a job as the new vet lady who specializes in horses. There is just one problem. Cash avoids her like she is the plague.
Cash has tried to avoid Holly but he can’t seem to quit running into her. He believes that she is just like his wife. Full of secrets and ready to leave at the drop of a hat. But he is so drawn to her. When secrets do come out and she is the center of them he is angry and wants nothing to do with him.
Holly is in love with Cash. She has been since she was a teenager. But she stepped back when her best friend took him. Now that she is back to look after Sophie she can’t help but feel those feelings resurface. But when a secret makes him angry, she loses all hope of any kind of relationship. But Holly never deserved a family or to be loved anyway.
This book was a sweet and wonderful romantic read with a deliciously hot cowboy. Who wouldn’t love that right?!? I love the way the story is written with a believable world and situations. Kadie took her time telling the story of Cash and Holly and their story flowed smoothly. A definite cozy up by the fire with a large glass of wine kind of story.
The characters in this book were wonderful. So entertaining and fun. I loved Holly! She was so wonderful, even if she felt guilty and almost ruined her happiness because of that guilt. Cash on the other hand was like a tennis match. Back and forth, back and forth with his feelings. I almost go whiplash. I wanted to yell at him “get your ass together man!” So imagine how happy it made me to finally see that happen.
So cozy on up and grab your wine, because you are in for a treat with this book. You will not regret your decision to read it. I promise. A Hallmark worthy moment.
Kadie keeps it up she will have a bright bright future in the book world.

Love the Hill Family!!!! Can’t get enough!
Oh my!!! I loved, loved, loved Saving the Sheriff by Kadie Scott, book one in The Hills of Texas series. This book made me smile, laugh and even tear up. After a night of getting drunk Cash Hill hooked up with Georgia, which led to an unexpected pregnancy and marriage. On the day Georgia died, Sheriff Cash learned that she was leaving him for another man, one she’d loved since before their marriage. Would this single dad ever be able to trust another woman again, especially, Georgia’s best friend Holly Jensen? Holly returned to La Colina, Texas to work as the new large animal vet and to watch over her best friend’s daughter. Cash believes that Holly knew about Georgia and her secrets, enough so he that he does not trust her, he wants nothing to do with her, despite being attracted to her. Yet, Holly has brought laughter back to his little girl’s life, so there must be some good there. Cash and Holly are faced with a choice, stay locked in the past or allow their reluctance to be quieted by a passion that is hotter than Texas summer nights. Can these two learn to trust their own hearts and each other?
I loved reading this book and didn’t want to put this book down, reading it in one day. Ms. Scott told a wonderful story, drawing me into her books, making me forget the world around me. I highly recommend this book to other readers and look forward to the next book in the series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
He never saw her in high school… and then her ‘girlfriend’ one-night-stand pregnancy traps him. This is an interesting twist with her unworthyness and his pain of being emotional abused by his wife. He’s got great family to support him … The Hills. She feels she abandoned her family.
If you like stories that have vets and sheriffs and country and animals and a precious little girl
Then there is Marcus … they big ole bug in the ointment.
Saving the Sheriff is my first book by Kadie Scott, and I thoroughly enjoyed the Hill family and their small town of La Colina.
Summary:
Sheriff Cash Hill didn’t marry for love. Neither did his late wife, Georgia. But he had expected loyalty at the very least. When, on the day she died, he found out she was leaving him, Cash lost his ability to trust. Even, in some respects, his own family. So when Georgia’s best friend, Holly, moves back to town, Cash’s immediate interest is a surprise. But trusting another woman isn’t a thought in his head, despite the way his protective instincts take over when Holly is near. Holly Jenson has wanted to be a large animal vet since she was five. She’s moving back to her hometown and living her dream, but regrets and guilt plague her night and day. She had to sacrifice to make her dream a reality. She never wanted to lose her family, but she made the best decision she could at eighteen. She must now live with everyone knowing what choices she made, but what hurts her more is her knowledge of Georgia’s past. Coming forward could rip another family apart. And she’d never want to hurt Cash or his family. She cares too much for Cash to do that. So, another choice must be made. Can Cash and Holly set their reservations aside and trust themselves and each other enough to explore the passion igniting between them?
**************************
This was a quick, yet enjoyable cowboy romance. I’ve found that I really like the “best friend’s husband” trope, and Saving the Sheriff fit that bill perfectly. I adored Holly. She was incredibly loyal, loving, compassionate, and strong. She found herself having to make a lot of hard decisions, but I always felt she did the right thing, just maybe not always the popular thing. The struggle was getting her to a state of peace over those decisions. My heart ached for when she revealed why she never planned on a relationship. Cash was strong, protective, and loving, but full of a lot of anger that could sometimes overwhelm his better sense. He was a good man who accepted responsibility only to have his ability to trust shaken. Together, Cash and Holly had a lot of chemistry. I actually kind of liked their back and forth and stolen kisses. I felt it added to the build-up and eventual capitulation. Overall, I really liked getting to know Cash and Holly. The story was well-written with a range of emotion and very likeable characters. Sophia was adorable, and I’m really looking forward to seeing if Carter wins Brian. The rest of the Hill family is lively and entertaining, too. It was a great Sunday read. My biggest problem with the story is the ending. It felt rushed and ended rather quickly. I was happy that the concern for Sophia didn’t span the entire book, but I would have liked more of Cash and Holly as a couple. More of the romance. We got the lead-up, but no chance to bask in the goodness. The ending wasn’t really abrupt, but it did feel you were just at the end of a chapter, ready to flip to the next only there was no next. It also didn’t have an epilogue, which is a big thing for me. Since this is a family series, I know we’ll see Cash and Holly in future books, but I still like to get a glimpse of their future through their eyes. I will definitely be reading more in this series, as well as checking out the other books Ms. Scott has to offer.
Holly loved her friend Georgia, but the secrets she knew could tear Cash’s family apart. This story is heart wrenching at points, but it shows how deceit and lies can almost destroy our lives if we allow it to. Cash and Holly have to overcome the lies that Georgia wove into each of their lives. Happiness has a price, and love can overcome every lie. I enjoyed this story and the journey to the truth.
This book tells the story of two lost souls. The sheriff lost his wife to another man and the vet lost herintegrity to vicious rumors. She manages to open his heart and he manages to help her regain her integrity in her home town. This is a heartwarming story.
Two people – working through their own life tragedies and hurts – find each other. There were a lot of situations I didn’t understand in the book and it perhaps could have been developed better, i.e., one character’s reasoning for her actions and leaving the community. But perhaps the book is to center around the husband and child and their struggles in life. I was happy for the ending – there’s love and hope.
Good book. Sherriff who held a grudge finds forgiveness that turns into love.
I enjoyed the path these two took to achieve happiness.
I really enjoyed this book, however, I want to know how their story continues. Ended abruptly.
I was about to give up on this book but I’m glad I didn’t, the hereon finally came to her senses.(good book)
Wonderful story with great characters! I couldn’t put this book down.
