After years of abuse and neglect, Parker is found chained in a junk-filled backyard after a drug bust. The little guy’s terrified of people. Officer Ned Barringer brings him to a nearby shelter for medical care. When Ned learns how hard it is for dogs like Parker to get adopted, he must do more. He’s also instantly taken with Kim Harper, one of the shelter managers. She offers to train Parker for … for free. Ned instantly accepts. That same day, he meets his next-door neighbor, a ten-year-old boy named Russell. Russell is hiding a black-eye, compliments of two bullies at school. This angers Ned. He suffered the same fate as a child. It’s the main reason he became a cop. But what can he do? When a near-death tragedy occurs, what role might Parker play in bringing these three lives together?
Dan Walsh is known for page-turning, character driven novels. Fans of Dan’s other novels, as well as dog-lovers everywhere will especially enjoy Saving Parker (and if they do, 2 more books are available in the Forever Home series).

I have read and loved all of Dan Walsh’s “dog” books. He does such a great job drawing you in to the story so you don’t want to put the book down. And in spite of the twists and turns and “drama” you know there will be a happy ending.
I enjoyed the book, even though it is not easy to think of animals being badly treated. I felt the characters were interesting and I enjoyed the happy ending.
Happy ending
Dan Walsh is a wonderful inspirational author. I have read his series on the lives of the dogs. They are very good
sensitive material and realistic view of mistreatment of some animals
A book about dog rescue that got me to look into other dog books by this author. Realistic and with a good ending.
I’m a sucker for all things animal, and Parker had me in his corner from page one.
Just a really sweet story! I liked the characters!
For anyone who loves animals and likes to see the underdog win.
Thoroughly enjoyable!
This is a story about a dog who is saved from a nasty situation. It’s heart warming and full of courage. I would highly recommend this book.
It kept me interested.
Really enjoyed this book. Nice to read a book that is family oriented and still ends happy. Highly recommend this book to young families , please take the time to get your children to read. Something for everyone.
Great story of living and loving.
Enjoyed reading Saving Parker.
Having just gotten a rescue dog myself, I could relate completely with the process of encouraging a wounded animal into a normal life. Almost like watching a flower bloom. An interesting look into “dog thoughts” and what motivates both people and animals.
This was such delightful book about a dog who got rescued from a horrible, traumatic situation. After getting a great deal of love and support, Tucker got a wonderful forever home. Parker’s story tugged at my heart. This is one of three in a series about three separate dogs, all of which were well worth the read. Really loved this book.
Enjoyed the book very much. Worthy of my time I put into it. Clean!
Ok, I love dogs but the first two paragraphs turned me off. Luckily, I continued to read this wonderful well-written book with multiple headline-type issue: animal cruelty, bullying, the role of police, and the little issue of “what is love?”. I learned so much in this story and read it from beginning to end. A definite page turner! There are biblical phrases that are well chosen for the plot. The respectful dialogue between adult and child, between professional to customer, between policeman and citizens, between man and woman and importantly, between human and dog. A must read….you will be changed for the better…
It was really different, in a good way. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
