I love Harlequin Intrigue books but this was the first book I read by Cindi Myers. Saved by the Sheriff was an overall entertaining read. I loved the premise that Sheriff Travis Walker, before he was sheriff, arrested Lacy Milligan for the murder of her boss. She serves three years in prison for it. However, he is also the one that finds out she’s innocent and works to get her released. The story starts there with him needing her help to find the real killer. She is obviously reluctant to get involved, but knows she needs to. But someone in town doesn’t want her and the sheriff to find out the truth about the murder and the reasons behind it. Lacy becomes a target.
The story ended a bit abruptly, not all of the loose ends tied off. But I’m guessing there is more to come (or I really hope so), since it’s a four book series. I’m also a sucker for declarations of love at the end of a book, and this book didn’t have that. But I’ve already picked up book 2 Avalanche of Trouble, and I’m looking forward to finding out what happens next with the characters you meet in this book and hopefully tying up those loose ends.
A touching, invigorating, and in the rugged, romantic suspense kind of way a beautiful story of new beginnings, forgiveness, small town living, and daring to open your heart and take that leap into love, while being targeted by a murderer, and the person of your affections put you in a prison for three years for something you didn’t do. Twisted? You betcha!
The charming world that the author creates with the vivid images and intriguing, charismatic small-town characters is alluring, a place where you would want to spend your time in until you realize that there’s most likely a killer living amongst you. This new series has a tangled yet thrilling start, and I am delightfully fascinated about what’s to come.
Sheriff Travis Walker made one big mistake at the beginning of his career that ended up Lacy Milligan being imprisoned for a murder she didn’t commit. Travis has moved the heaven and earth to fix his mistakes, yet forgiveness is something he doesn’t expect or ask for.
Lacy is a survivor, a strong, amazing woman who has the capacity to start anew, forget, and forgive, for her own sake as much as Travis’.
The threats and attacks towards Lacy start as soon as she comes back home, proving that someone in the small town has something to hide, and their ultimate goal is to stop the investigation to the real murderer and eliminate Lacy in the process if necessary. To survive, Lacy is going to need Travis’ help and protection, no matter how resentful or how attracted she suddenly feels towards the handsome sheriff.
The tender and delicate relationship that develops between Travis and Lacy is as sweet as it is ardent. The attraction is palpable, and connection true and believable. There are issues between them, that they need to work on, and they have those difficult conversations between the intense aggression and assaults towards Lacy and the investigation. I loved the subtle, a bit sarcastic humor that is embedded into the tale, with laugh out loud oneliners when you least expect it to lighten up the gloomy, danger-filled atmosphere.
A dreamily luscious, yet gently touching, adorable, and inspiring love story in a midst of fatal, perilous action and suspense. A story that had me both sighing, smiling, and biting my nails, on the edge of my seat in dread and trepidation. I have a feeling this series is going to be a fan-favorite all the way!

“Saved by the Sheriff” starts a new miniseries by Cindi Myers called Eagle Mountain Murder Mystery.
Lacy Milligan is set free from prison, having spent the past three years convicted of murdering her boss, lawyer Andy Stenson.
Travis Walker, now Sheriff, found evidence of Lacy’s innocence, after he was the one responsible for sending her away. Now he needs her help in finding the real killer.
“Saved by the Sheriff” is a first-rate whodunit with excellent pacing and sprinkled with a few red herrings. Having a romance between Travis and Lacy balances the story.
Ms. Myers has crafted a story that will have readers anticipating the next installment while trying to solve the Eagle Mountain mystery at the same time.
