Natalie always wants to help people. Together with her father she makes new arms and legs for the people who needs them. Then there is Cody who is missing a big part of his leg. Most of his life he’s been miserable and angry. He don’t know how to be kind but Natalie just wants to help him. How these two people connect and make each other lives better you have to read for yourself.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The slow buildup of their relationship was entertaining to follow.
Saved by Grace is another well-written, clean, historical romance by Kari Trumbo. Natalie and Cody seem total opposites, but need each other. They are both well-developed characters that I grew to love. The plot is interesting and moves at a good pace. I enjoy Ms. Trumbo’s use of dialogue. Cody to his boss, “I thought you wanted me to be more friendly.” To which Langerford replies, “More friendly than a grizzly with cubs, yes. As friendly as a puppy, no.” She creates such pictures with her writing! I highly recommend this book. I received an ARC. I chose to write a review and share my opinion.
Natalie Oleson, her brothers, and father traveled to Belle Fourche to mend the rift between her father and his brother Nathan before her father dies and so that his children can be with family after spending his life traveling to make wooden limbs for those who needed them. Banker Cody Hammond lost his leg in an English war. But he’s lost more than that. His fighting parents forced him to go away to war and put him in an abysmal asylum when he returned. He has seen so little kindness that he is surly to scare people away. Natalie thinks helping him will give her father a reason to fight to live. She never expected to lose her heart. This was another wonderfully stirring romance by Kari with broken characters that help each other heal.
The Whole Man
Each book is written as a standalone, but the cross-references to the shared universe and characters, while explained within, mean you’ll enjoy each the more for having read its predecessor. This tale focuses on Ann’s brother Cody, he of the missing limb, and some hitherto unknown cousins of the Olsons. Post Civil War advances in replacement limb technology were necessitated by the number of men who’d survived their wounds because amputation had halted gangrene. But could a false leg do more than fill Cody’s empty pants leg? The female Olson cousin wants to help by making him that prosthesis. I especially liked the introduction of technical advancements as a key to unlocking the character of painfully shy Natalie. As always, narrator J. Scott Bennett’s interpretations added to my enjoyment of the story.
This book was so good! It is very well written and holds your attention from beginning until the end.

Saved by Grace is another sweet, Christian romance from Kari Trumbo. The blurb has the plot. Natalie , Cody and the other characters are well developed and believable. This is a romance of opposites attract. Ms. Trumbo’s books are always well written. The plot is well developed. Both Cody and Natalie have to relearn trust, grow in faith and finally heal from past hurts. I highly recommend this book.
More Olesons, more brothers!
I am really enjoying reading this series. The characters are all so well-developed and the writing is captivating and heartfelt. In this story, Cody, the brother of Eli’s wife Anne, is moody and gruff and just a little on the caustic side. But we know why he’s like that, and as his story progresses we see him reconcile himself to some misconceptions and allow himself to consider a different life than he previously could.
Natalie Oleson lands on her uncle’s ranch with her dying father and three unruly brothers. Still reeling from her mother’s death a decade before, she’s not ready to lose her father and the life he’s provided for her. She’s drawn to Cody for more than just the opportunity to reinvigorate her father with a new assignment, but she doesn’t quite know what to do with Cody’s anger and ambivalence.
This is a true slow-burn romance, one that requires both MC to reassess their plans for the future as well as develop their faith and ability to trust. It’s a beautiful story, well-told and full of faith and family values. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Saved By Grace is a great story with many wonderful characters. I love reading stories that the character are part of bigger families who all come together to help and freely give to each other. The friendship between Cody and Natalie was one of trust and sharing stories of hurt and pain. Kari Trumbo writes another great book that touches the heart and draws you into the story. I can’t wait for her next book!
Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.

I loved this unique story about the family making limbs for the soldiers who lost them during the war. This is an amazing example of kindness winning. It’s just like the Bible states, “…the kindness of God leads you to repentance”. Kari truly has a gift for putting hard to love characters in a situation that softens them and soft characters become harder (stronger) because of working with that other person.
It was wonderful for the same narrator to continue this series!
This is a really great love story, beautifully written by Kari Trumbo as a stand-alone with wonderful and very believable characters and of course, a happily ever-after.
In addition, J. Scott Bennett has narrated the audiobook and he makes each character come alive with his interested voices which make the book a pleasure to listen to.
I requested a copy and listened to the audio version and my voluntary and unbiased review is above.
Cody Hammond had some trials and tribulations in his life. A rough childhood when his parents split, going into the service and losing a leg. Getting sent to a home from which he had to escape. Then travelling from England by himself being an amputee with only 1 leg. He had to overcome some serious obstacles and his attitude in life reflects the aftermath of those trials. When he comes to Belle Fourche, South Dakota and begins work at a bank he meets Natalie Oleson. Natalie has arrived in town with her sick father and her non-compliant brothers. She has a lot of burden on her shoulders but remains a kind and caring person. This is a well written, clean romance about two people who deserve to be unburdened by their pasts and move on together for a better future.
This book is part of a great series. Sweet romance, historical setting, interesting characters. Could not put it down, and really enjoyed it!
Saved By Grace is a sweet historical romance in the Brothers of Belle Fourche series by Kari Trumbo. Having listened to the other books in the collection I was anxious for this fourth one and was not disappointed. The author has captured well the era of the setting (1900, South Dakota) and the emotions and actions of her characters. They are realistic and relatable and I was drawn quickly into their story and enjoyed watching the romance between Natalie and Cody develop. Natalie, a determined and caring young woman and Cody, a banker who definitely has some bitterness and frustrations with things in his past that effect his present. Will they be able to move through their struggles to have a future together? It was interesting to read about the use of prosthetics during this period of history. Although fourth in the series, it is easily a stand-alone story but I’d recommend reading the first three books as well. It is interesting to see the characters from the previous books and what has been happening with them. Readers of historical romance books will not want to miss this one. I listened to a complimentary copy of the audiobook and was not required to write a review and the opinions are my own. The narrator, J. Scott Bennett did a great job telling Natalie and Cody’s story which made for an enjoyable listening experience. I am so glad there are more books in this series as I look forward to reading more about the brothers of Belle Fourche and the women they come to love.
Saved by Grace
Brothers of Belle Fourche, Book 4
By: Kari Trumbo
Narrated by: J. Scott Bennett
There are authors I turn to that reset my mind, and Kari Trumbo is one of them. She always writes a beautiful story, and Saved by Grace is wonderful. Grace, her father and brothers come to Belle Fourche to mend a rift with her uncle. Her father is ill, and he is hoping to find a place where his children can flourish. Grace meets Cody, a disgruntled, unhappy man from England who has lost part of his leg. With her skills in prosthetic building, she is immediately drawn to help him. But is it just his leg she wants to help his with? Trumbo continues to let us join in the community at Belle Fourche, know it’s people and feel comfort and love. Her characters of Grace and Cody have so many traits we all deal with. Grace is loving, responsible and trying to find her place in a new situation. Cody is cranky, frustrated and unwilling to bend. Together, will they find their new normal? Love this addition to the series, loved that Grace was persistent and did the job a man would normally do, and loved their growing faith.
J Scott Bennett continues to bring this series to life with his comforting narration. He has a calming effect when he tells a story, brings each character their own nature and lets us live it right along with them. He is the perfect fit for this series, and I have enjoyed each one of his performances.

Saved by Grace (Brothers of Belle Fourche #4) was a great read by Kari Trumbo. Cody and Natalie are complete opposites. Natalie arrived in Belle Fourche with her sick father and three brothers. She finds herself at the mercy of her only remaining family, the Olesons. She is excited to meet an ornery man with a missing leg. She hopes that he’ll let her father make him him a prosthetic limb. Unfortunately it isn’t easy to get Cody to agree to anything. Cody lives a quiet and ordered life, until the day Natalie rushes into the bank he works at. I really enjoyed reading their story and can’t wait to read more by the author.
4 1/2 stars
APart of a series and if you can read them in order you get backstories of the minor characters and understand and know them. So you don’t have to read in order you won’t be lost.
A woman dealing with her dad being very sick and the reality of not having not belonging if she doesn’t have him to care for.
A young man dealing with a missing limb and trying to fit in to a world where it’s hard for a man missing a limb.
The author does a great job with dealing with belonging, being loved, mourning, and life. You won’t regret reading (or listening) as I did
