He saved her life…she saved his soul.Garrett Hawkins is the most valuable asset to his Special Forces unit, because, frankly, the guy doesn’t care if he lives or dies anymore. Since the love of his life, Sage Weston, was kidnapped and killed with her medical unit a year ago, Garrett has turned the shell of his soul into the armor of a finely tuned fighting machine. Being the first tapped for the … tapped for the unit’s craziest missions is just fine by him. The less time for memories and the agony they carve into his soul, the better.
It’s a plan that works, until Garrett’s world is upended one night in the jungles of Thailand. Memories become reality when the unit is called to rescue a group of kidnapped aid workers, and they discover Sage and her teammate among the retrieved women. Now that Sage is back in his arms, Garrett doesn’t know what to do. He has changed in dramatic ways, especially in the darker tastes of his passion. If he touches Sage again, he’ll want to claim her, restrain her…dominate her.
Is Sage’s love strong enough to let Garrett back in, not only as her fiancé but her Dominant? Can she trust that visiting the new shadows of his life will lead her to ecstasy and not ruin? Or can Garrett’s discipline be exactly what her soul needs to find its way back to life—and love—again?

AH-mazing! Garrett is beyond swoon-worthy and Sage was a strong, fierce heroine who held her own. Great start to an action-packed, page-turning series. Bonus: it’s FREE right now! 😉
How do you handle having your dreams shattered then the pieces handed back to you reformed but incomplete? Garret got his Heart back and Sage gets her Hero back but there is a chasm of hurt and guilt to travel plus too much danger to avoid in their trek. I loved the determination she shows but not the brattiness she invokes. I love his strength and desire to keep her safe but not his mental self-punishment. The story grabbed me but I kept feeling like I had missed something along the way., but Angel assures me I have not. I love Garret and Sage. They are a great match.
Hot alpha males great scorching scenes and gut wrenching . This series has me hooked to the Honor Bound
All I can say is WOW! A must read, this book is everything and more. I couldn’t put it down. It has dominance, love and definitely swoon-worthy!
I got this book free at the end of another that I purchased. I kept hearing about how good the series was so decided to jump right in and check it out. The story has some twists and turns that were totally unexpected. I got sucked in right away and finished it in 2 days. It was just my 2nd book by this author but I have found I really like her writing. I loved the characters and am looking forward to following them through the rest of the series. Highly recommend.
Saved is the first book by Angel Payne that I have read. The description attracted me but it wasn’t quite what I expected. It covered many heavy subjects but I am not sure it did justice to any of them. I liked the story line so even though the story seemed slow at times I pushed through. I am glad I did. It definitely ended stronger than it started and I would definitely read another book by Angel in the future.
Oh my! This has so much heart and soul wrapped up in the pages it can hardly contain it! Sage and Rayna were kidnapped and considered dead a year ago. Garrett Hawkins, with the Special Forces unit, is being sent in on a mission to rescue aid workers who were kidnapped. A year after his fiance has been killed he is barely hanging on and lives for any mission but this one is cutting it close to the bone. Especially when one of the prisoners they rescue is his fiance. Getting Sage back is just the beginning, now they need to learn to live together again. Garrett has changed in the last year. His dominant side has come full force and he does not know how to deal with it. It is going to take everything and all the love they have for each other to save each other again and again…especially since the danger is still present even though they have returned home. This story grips you from page one and keeps rolling and picking up pace until I couldn’t put it down. I definitely recommend this one and glad to see it appears to be the start of a series!
Definitely recommend this one!
4.5 Star Review of Saved (Honor Bound Book 1) by Angel Payne
This is the first book in the series and one I really enjoyed. I have read other books from Angel Payne so I jumped at the opportunity to read this book as I have always enjoyed her writing style and the depth of characters that she writes about.
Garrett Hawkins is still struggling to fight his way back from the horror of the kidnapping and subsequent death of the woman he loves, Sage Weston. Not caring whether he lives or dies, he goes through the motions as a leader of a special forces team, doing his job but not really living.
Imagine his absolute shock and joy to find that on his latest mission, one of the women he has been sent in to rescue is in fact Sage and her co worker Rayna, who have been presumed dead for over a year.
Both Garrett and Sage struggle to re build their lives, both having changed in so many ways due to the horrors and trauma experienced. Can these two tortured souls find their way back to each other and allow the love they shared to strengthen and subsequently re-connect? Or has the past twelve months destroyed any chance that Garrett and Sage have?
I loved both Garrett and Sage and so admired not only Sage but Rayna for surviving such a harrowing and traumatic experience. Garrett is an alpha and dominant male, as are all the members of his team and it was interesting to see how both he and Sage struggle to reach a compromise as they learn to be with each other again as a couple.
The secondary characters of Zeke and Rayna, along with the other members of Garrett’s team were just as interesting and I cannot wait to read their stories.
There was intrigue, suspense, dominant and tender moments throughout this book and at times I truly felt I was on an emotional roller-coaster of a read.
3.5 stars
Sage’s strength in surviving her kidnapping and the courage she has in continuing to plan her future is what makes her a relatable character. Passion and acceptance, pride and desire can all be described as life when she bounces back and begins her post-captivity life over. But not all traumas are visible and she struggles with doubt, grief and sadness as well. Garrett’s own struggle is more over his darker desires that have emerged since he lost her over a year ago. Can he calm down some of his more aggressive needs in order to ensure her safety? Will he accept that his kinks are part of his wants and not something to be ashamed of? Will they make it as a couple?
My only disappointment is that this story was overly descriptive and that the ability to overcome trauma was done quickly. While I read to escape reality, I still want some degree of “in the realm of possibility.”
This is my second time around with this book and just like the first time I read it which was a couple of years ago, it’s as good as I can remember, if not better!
Anyone who knows me, knows I’m obsessed with all things Alpha male. Can’t get enough of them and this book delivers an incredible military plot that will keep you captivated all the way through. It’s full of angst, thrill and complete and utter intensity and suspense! what I loved most about this read is that it’s not full of sex scenes, it’s extremely hot and heavy and there was a couple of heavy BDSM scenes. But It’s got a deeper plot. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for kinky sex. ALL FOR IT! But I often find myself straying away from a book if it’s overloaded with sex. Saved has substance, a plot that’ll break your heart into a million pieces but slowly it’ll put it back together piece by piece.
Garett.. My heart honestly break so many times for this man. He continuously struggled with his dark desires, his craving for a darker side of pleasure. His main focus and devotion was to the Special Forces Unit but after his fiancé Sage, gets kidnapped and killed. He stops caring about life, it didn’t bother him if he was killed or not. He’s riddled with guilt, feeling as though he’s to blame that he couldn’t protect his fiancé.
After a year of devastation and going through his life like he was on auto pilot, having to live his life without the love of his life, he goes out on a search and rescue, only to find Sage as one of the people he was sent to rescue, he had no idea and had presumed she was dead.
Once home, safe and secure, you’d think it would be a happily ever after. Oh no. They find themselves struggling, demons that were a result of the past year Sage had been held captive. Garrett is still struggling with the fact his fiancé is in fact alive, after living a year of devastation and heart break..
Sage is struggling with everything that happened while she was held against her will. The things that she seen, the things that had been done to her and things that she will not ever be able to erase from her memory. Garrett’s darker desires are growing and he fears if he’s honest and opens up to Sage about them that she’ll leave him, that she could not possibly love him and the last thing he wants to do is even let there be a chance he could lose her all over again. He will spend his life protecting her life at any cost. But will he open up to her? Tell her his desires? Is Sage and her love for Garrett strong enough? Is she capable of submitting to him and letting him dominate her?
This love story holds special meaning to me in so many ways, so even after reading it a second time I found myself a blubbering mess almost the whole way through it. It’s a beautiful love story, but I warn you now it will pull you so deeply in and twist you up inside before you start to feel that relief. It’s such a roller coaster of emotions and will keep you on the edge of your seat. It’s an amazing start to what promises and delivers an amazing series.
Ms. Payne is a genius with her words. She knows how to pull you in so deep and hold you there through and emotional love story. It’s extremely well written and so easily pictured as you read it. Her character to detail is phenomenal. I’m completely smitten with Garett. And Sage and Garrett’s love story is one of my favourites.
You beat your ass I will re-read this for a third time in the near future. MUST READ!!
Garrett is Special Forces. When him and his team go to take out a human trafficker, he finds his fiancee who was said to have been killed over a year ago. Sage was on the run in Africa until she’s captured and taken to Bangkok to be sold. Once their back stateside Garrett fights his dominant nature but Sage wants him to let go of the leash and explore this with her. When she is ‘re- kidnapped and he goes in to rescue her, he must finally show his dominance over her.
This was a sexy story about hot military men and a man fighting his dominant nature. He goes to another woman to try and get it out of his system. He doesn’t actually have sex but almost. He then goes right back to Sage with scratch marks on his neck. I thought she should have tossed him out on his butt or beat the crap out of him. Apparently this was called SAVED BY HIS SUBMISSIVE when I read it the first time. Because after reading it, when it pops up for a review that was the titled and I’d already wrote a review. In that one I wrote about him going to another woman but in this one he just gets drunk. He does come back with scratches but they never say how he got them. I really did like the story this time around and don’t even remember reading it the first time.
Angel never disappoints! You will love this book. Garret is smoking hot and Sage is a beautiful soul. This story has many twists and turns that will make you blow through the pages! A must read!
I am,readimg the, next 1 in the series. Now couldn’t wait to see what happens next.
When Garrett Hawkins comes upon his supposed dead fiancé while on a rescue mission, he cannot believe his eyes. Sage, the woman he loves and has thought was dead for the past year, is actually alive and relatively unharmed. It all sounds good, right? A reunion of two people who love each other. But what happens is something that quite frankly, at turns irritated and bored me.
The first thing that struck me is that I wanted to hear about what Sage had gone through in the past year. I didn’t need loads of overdetails and graphic scenes of torture or anything, but I wanted something, anything. I got nothing other than that Sage and Rayna (the woman housed in captivity with her) are friends. I’m not sure if they were friends before, but they definitely became friends and remained friends after rescue. I feel like if what happened to Sage during captivity had been at least a little detailed, then her subsequent healing afterward would have had a much bigger impact on me.
And then there’s Garrett. Oh God, he was the worst, the absolute worst. He rescues his fiancé and instead of giving her the release she wants, needs, during their first intimate situation since the rescue, and instead of giving her the release, he runs and gets drunk instead?!?!?! Um no, just no. That was when I was done with his character and done with this story. I just couldn’t get into it after that. And that’s unfortunate because it had so much promise.
And finally, the last reason I just could not get behind Saved – the connection between Garrett and Sage just did not ring true to me. It wasn’t strong enough and their few scenes certainly did absolutely nothing for me. I never bought Garrett as a Dom, even once he embraced that side of himself and stopped fighting it. His friend Zeke and his Uncle Wyatt were much more convincing Doms than Garrett portrayed.
I wanted a super intense, super steamy reunion story of love and healing and what I got was just this boring mess. 2 stars for this one I’m afraid.
Sexy, thrilling, and captivating!!!! Amazing start to a new series! Garrett and Sage both showed amazing strength and devotion to each other through their journey. Chemistry was off the charts between these two! I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
Garrett and Sage prove that the ties that bind defy all boundaries and know no limits. Garrett and Sage were ripped apart when Sage was declared KIA. Garrett’s world became a one missing its light and so he harnessed the darkness into becoming a deadly SpecOps agent bent on battling back the demons. Even after a year of being without her, he is still a shell but he still has a job to do in the wilds of Bangkok. When his team infiltrates and disarms King and his thugs he literally comes face to face with a ghost. Sage has dreamed of Garrett, her Hero, coming to save her for every night for a year. Being on the run and then being at the mercy on these unconscionable goons is nothing short of terrifying. Keeping Rayna and herself alive and safe hasn’t been easy and neither woman can say they are unscarred. When her rescue prayers are answered she is floored when none other Garrett Hawkins is one of the men in the extraction party. Sage and Garrett are reunited but instead of feeling oh so good, Garrett is struggling with some dark urges that he wants from his miracle fiance. Garrett love for Sage is as deep and true as ever, but his need to Dom is powerful and cannot be ignored but how can he ask that of his sweet Sugar?
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book.
This is a must read… Once I picked it up I couldn’t put it down. These books are the type that suck you into them and you want to be the characters. Another amazing book by Angel Payne! She never disappoints…
This 1st book of the series is unbelievable! The story is so realistic. The characters all get along. Love the Alpha males of Garrett & Zeke & even Uncle Wayne. Then the 3 impressive & strong women of Sage, Rayna & Josie. Page Turner & must read book/series. Another a Great series Angel Payne
It was slow getting started, in my opinion, and it was too violent for my tastes. Also too tense. And I don’t like it when the main good guys get shot up, beaten up or stabbed. On the plus side, it had a happy ending and the sex got steamy toward the end.
If you like dark and twisted love stories then this a good read!
