Bluntly put, there’s only one thing wrong with this novel: it’s the last in the Morgan Dane series. Fortunately, there are other Melinda Leigh series to explore, and explore them I shall. I love the blend of family and challenges associated therewith intermingling with professional challenges that arise—often unexpectedly, and always (as in life) at the worst possible time. It’s an enchanting blend, particularly in SAVE YOUR BREATH, because there are moments of intense fear, suspense, resignation and touching, inspiring moments of grace.
There was a time I finished reading every book I started. When I developed eye issues, I stopped that. Had too, preserving the eyes. Since then, I have a short window of time to become absorbed in a book or move on to another. I was absorbed in each of the six books in this series. Invested in every single one of them. And better yet, if there were a seventh, I’d be buying it instead of writing this recommendation. Salute on a job well done, Melinda Leigh!
I love this book! I love this series! I am so terribly sad that this is the final book in the series!
SAVE YOUR BREATH (Morgan Dane Book 6) by Melinda Leigh is a romantic suspense/PI mystery and this time the focus is on Lincoln Sharp and Olivia Cruz, but the danger still has a way of finding Lance and Morgan.
True-crime writer Olivia Cruz has disappeared. Lincoln and Olivia have been dating for a few months now and he knows the type of criminals she interviews and fears the worst. She attempts to leave a few clues, but she is taped, tied and then drugged. Sharp gets Lance and Morgan to assist in going through her files of her current book looking for clues.
They find Olivia was writing about two cold case murders. The mother of one of the convicted men committed suicide right outside Morgan’s office after Morgan turned her down as a client the same day they find Olivia missing.
The suspects increase as the suspense builds and it is a race against the clock. Will Sharp find Olivia and will she be alive? And has Morgan and Lance’s involvement in the case made them targets of the killer?
I love all the characters in this book and series. I always look forward to each book knowing I can pick it up, reconnect with Morgan, Lance and all the secondary characters and immediately be immersed in a mystery that pulls me into the story and their lives once again. Ms. Leigh knows how to keep you on the edge-of-your-seat and turning the pages. I am very sorry this series is ending, but I know I will be going back to reread them again.
I highly recommend this book and the entire series! All the books have memorable characters and well plotted mysteries. I do recommend they be read in order to follow all the personal connections and changes.
The title is important….once you start this book, you’ll notice the title refers to several situations. There is a missing author, with asthma, there are people not willing to talk or help even if it means a life, don’t waste your time or breath on them and more, through this jam packed hunt for Olivia.
The shocks start right off with a farm wife begging Morgan to save her son from his prison sentence and it sets off a wave of incidences.
You have Morgan, mom of three, fiance Lance and the boss Lincoln Sharp. Morgan’s sister Stella, a cop and her guy Mac, all becoming involved because Sharp was seeing Olivia. This is a tightknit grouo of people with different skill sets investigating as one. All are professional, inquisitive, and their own person. You can pick this up and not feel the need to read the previous book in the series.
Olivia is a can do woman with two cases she is writing about that may set a man free..until she is kidnapped….that scene is another scary, realistic moment as is the way Olivia fights to stay alive.
The two cases have to do with abused women, guns and illegal weapons, and murders of five women. Both cases are checked over for missing evidence or misconduct. Just as I thought I knew who had Olivia, anither person comes to the forefront!
This plot is super tight with investigations into Olivia, people around her, and the two crimes she was studying for a book. It shows what you can and can’t do legally while looking into a crime and you can feel the frustration of the team and the toll it takes on them mentally and physically and on their families. No gore or over the top graphic scenes.
Loved the teamwork and caring attitude to each other and the peek into the homelife of Morgan and Lance. Even the live-in sitter Gianna, is brought into play. Great atmosphere, a look into the lives of the two in prison and their families was delved into in detail…..felt like I was there as they entered the big barn with the odors and disrepair and smell of fear.
It ends on a high note of families and caring and I read this book in two sittings, so enjoyable. 5 stars
Absolutely loved this series! Such great characters and strong mysteries in every book. And this was a perfect ending. I’m sad that this is the last in the series, but I’m looking forward to the next one!
Leigh has created a thrilling series that I truly enjoy. Light on romance yet heavy on mystery and suspense, this is a captivating series that will draw you in. Save Your Breath is the sixth installment in the Morgan Dane series and while each book can technically be read as a stand-alone, I strongly recommend reading the series in order to really get to know the characters, the intricacies of how they work, their friends and family and day-to-day events that tie the entire series together. Each book in the series has its’ own crime to solve but there is a series long arc surrounding Morgan and Lance and their growing relationship.
This particular book revolves around Morgan and Lance helping Sharp, their friend and Lance’s partner, solve the disappearance of his lady love. With police hands tied from lack of evidence of a crime and little clues to go on, the three dive into the void to piece together Oliva’s last hours before her disappearance and unravel the mystery before it is too late. Aided by Morgan’s grandfather and Lance’s mother, the team is set and ready to rock and roll. However, the more they dig, the grimmer of a picture forms. Will they be able to piece together all the clues and find Olivia before time runs out?
There is plenty of suspense, drama, and mystery to enjoy in this read along with a touch of off-the-page romance and a delightful HEA for Morgan and Lance. Some of the plot sequences were slightly predictable in places but it still does not take away from the excitement of the story. I believe this is the last book in the series and though I would have liked to have seen more of Sharp and Oliva, this book is a nice wrap-up to the series.
*I received an ARC from the publisher, thru NetGalley and am providing my honest review.
I have enjoyed the audio books of the Morgan Dane series and this final book did not disappoint. Sharp has begun a personal relationship with reporter Olivia. When she goes missing and evidence shows that she’s been abducted Morgan, Lance and Sharp go full force into finding her alive. The clues lead them to unearth other mysteries.
THIS REVIEW IS FOR BOTH THE AUDIOBOOK AND EBOOK VERSIONS
This was an amazing book, loved the characters and the plot. It was great to follow these characters throughout this series and I enjoyed all the suspense and twists. The narrator did a wonderful job preforming this book. I recommend this book.
I loved this series so much! In this story Morgan and Lance help Sharp search for his missing girlfriend, Olivia. During their search they solved old crimes, survived a bombing and helped Gianna through a health crisis.
In the end, they found that together, they can accomplish anything. My heart exploded over Lance and the girls going to the cemetery.
I’ll miss these characters and will be first in line if the author gives us more of their story.
Reading Melinda Leigh helped me break through a block an write a novel based on an idea I carried around for a decade or more. Her Shadow Falls series is a collection highly enjoyable books.
This book revolves around Morgan and Lance helping Sharp, solve the disappearance of his friend Olivia Cruz. There are many false starts in determining the cause of her disappearance. Is it related to her new crime book or something else entirely? Some good red herrings and unexplained deaths bring this book to a very satisfying end. The author has created a thrilling series that I truly enjoy. Light on romance yet heavy on mystery and suspense that will draw you in. Some reviewers intimate this is the last book in the series. I certainly hope not!
Loved this book–and this series. Highly recommend! (Don’t plan on getting anything else done until you’ve finished reading.)Melinda Leigh
As all the other books, this one had action and a character-driven plot. This one more feely than the others because of the plot. The who-dunnit stayed mysterious until the end, yet, being an author myself, I loved it! I seriously hope there’ll be more in this series.
I feel repetitive. I feel like I’ve written these exact words for all of these books in the series. She writes beautifully. I would not be exaggerating to say that you cannot wait to see what happens. The narration continues to be excellent. I’m sad to see the end.
People will do anything for money. Morgan, Lance, and Sharp are on a case, but this one is personal. Sharp’s girlfriend, Olivia, is missing. They follow lead after lead only to come to dead ends.
Megan Leigh has written the 6th book of the Morgan Dane series. She has continued to grow Morgan throughout her books. When you grab the Morgan Dane Series latest book, it’s like you are catching up with an old friend. Leigh has developed all the characters so well throughout this series. You can’t help but to root for them.
With Morgan and Lance’s wedding happening in 2 weeks and their chaotic life, will they need to put off the wedding? Can they keep Sharp from falling apart and getting into trouble? Who would want to kidnap a true crime writer? Has Olivia stumbled onto something she shouldn’t have? Read this book and you’ll find out all the answers. If you have never read this series I would start with #1, Say Your Sorry.
Wow! Frightening!
I love these wonderful characters. Their relationships over the series has brought them, and us readers, close. So when something happen to one of them…WOW!!
I didn’t enjoy this one as much as her previous book. This is the second time there was a militia group that really had no purpose, but to add length to the story. Don’t get me wrong I still enjoyed the book, but some things could have been left out in my opinion. Maybe in a later book, cross our finger, the group will actually come into play! I hope this isn’t her last book because I really enjoy reading her books. I hope to see Morgan and Lance grow as a couple and Olivia and Sharp! They all have great chemistry.
I love this series and I think this final book was spot on. So much suspense and edge of your seat moments. The author had me guessing till the very end who was behind Olivia’s kidnapping, and even then I couldn’t believe it.
This latest installment in the Morgan Dane series does not disappoint!!! Once I started, I could not put it down! Read from cover to cover in just about 2 hours. This is one of my all time favorite series!!! I HIGHLY recommend this book – could be a stand alone but you would be missing out on a GREAT series if you don’t start with book 1. Each book just keeps getting better. Well-written, well-developed characters with depth and personality. Can’t wait for book 7.
Thank you #netgalley and #montalkeromance for the eARC.
This was a great book to the series and ending if I am reading it correctly. I tired up at the end. I think this was really the only way the Olivia and Lincoln realized how much they mean to each other. I also can’t believe who kidnapped her and why. Such a bizarre reason. I ended up listening to this book on audio then reading as I have for the whole series and it has been an enjoyment to listen to. I will be sad to see this series end but it ended on a happy positive note.
*I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.*
Read all Morgan Dane books. Great writing, love the people, love the stories. One of the better ones.
