Can a touch of Satin bring a straight copper to his knees?Detective Joel Hunter is on surveillance when he first lays eyes on Satin, the singer with the amazing voice, which is as beautiful as she is. But when the stake-out comes to an end, he can’t resist going back to the bar. He gets a shock when he learns what lies beneath the satin dress, but an even bigger one when he realizes he’s … he’s attracted to the owner of that sultry voice – Ross Dauntry.
Ross can’t figure out why the cop keeps coming back, even after he’s learned the truth. Is Joel attracted to him, or to Satin? Because the answer is important, and one way or another, Ross needs to know…
46,000 words. A standalone novella of satin and sensuality…
Although this story is in the same series as Lace, you will not find Dave and Shawn in these pages – Joel and Ross provide enough heat of their own.
more
This is what I’m talking about. Satin is everything I wanted and more. Not only did we get the love story of Ross and Joel but K. C. Wells also tackled some misconceptions. As with Lace, you have a man who likes the feel of a certain material against his skin. I like how the writer goes into why and how it makes Ross feel. That is one of the many reasons I love this author. K. C. Doesn’t skin the surface. You get the details also, making the stories full of character and rich in depth without dragging. I am looking forward to Silk. I can’t wait for all the ones that’ll be in this series.
Sensual Fabric (an audio review)
I’ve listened to several of the Material World books and have enjoyed them all. Each is unique, and the only thread is they all center around a fabric. This book has an interesting pairing.
Joel is a cop. A straight cop. Has he fantasized about other men? Occasionally. Does he feel an immediate pull toward Satin? Absolutely. She’s a beautiful woman with an amazing voice. She also turns out to be a he.
Ross is a female impersonator. He not only dresses like a woman, he does all his own singing. And he likes the cop by the bar who keeps dropping by even after the case is done. Desire can be a funny thing, and soon Joel realizes he’s not as straight as he’s always believed. But as a metropolitan cop, is he ready to come out?
I loved that his female partner was a lesbian and that her story featured prominently in the novel.
This was just a lovely book. Low-angst, dark moment that wasn’t all that dark, and several happy endings. I loved that being gay was just a natural part of living and I can certainly hope there’s more inclusivity in police forces going forward.
Finally I’ll mention Seb Yarrick. I enjoy his narrations and I love how well he and Ms. Wells work together. All in all, like I said, just a lovely book.
Audiobook review:
Satin by K.C. Wells was given to me in exchange for an honest review. Joel, a detective, was on a stakeout at a bar with his partner. He was watching the entertainment and found he was mesmerized by her voice and beauty. Ross, a female impersonator using the name Satin saw Joel in the audience and felt the attraction right away. When Ross found out Joel was straight he was disappointed but still wanted to be his friend. As their friendship progresses they find they are really attracted to one another. I really enjoyed the sweetness and joy this book gives anyone who feels out of place or rejected because there is a part of themselves they are still discovering. The story and wonderfully narrated by Seb Yarrick who embraced the character and gave them a voice.
This was a wonderful romance with a satin twist. I would not call this a kink though, just what feels good and right, and it is not like a sex kink, but more of a preference for clothing. I so enjoyed Ross. He was so forthcoming, and was just himself always. I liked how the author handled Joel’s bi-awakening, and I thought it made sense for the story. I also like that really there was not a ton of angst, and the angst that was there was not unnecessary, it was warranted for the story. This is one of the first books by K.C. Wells, and I cannot wait to read more.
Audiobook review:
Performance – 5
Story – 5

Great out-for-you story.
Satin was the second book I read by K. C. Wells. That was back in 2017 and I haven’t looked back. I don’t re-read books, no matter how much I love them, simply because my TBR/TBL lists are way too long. The exception to that rule is listening to the audio of books I’ve already read.
Listening to Seb Yarrick’s fantastic performance of this story brought back memories of how much I loved the book when I read it nearly 4 years ago. His audio performances are always good but I think he outdid himself with this one. I loved the various accents he used for the different characters. He was able to bring tears to my eyes in a few places and that’s not something that happens often when I’m listening to, rather than reading a book.
GFY/OFY books are favorites for me and this one was great. Satin is the story of “straight” cop, Joel Hunter and his fascination with female impersonator, Ross Dauntry. Joel is puzzled by his attraction to Ross but he can’t seem to resist the pull he feels for him.
This story has just the right amount of angst and tension between the two MCs. They slowly begin to develop a friendship and more and then they (mostly Joel) mess it up. The story has a lot of depth and character development as well as an HEA; I loved the journey these two men take to get there and their chemistry together is really hot!
A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.
Fantastic Story & Listen A Sweet & Spicy Delight!
Satin
A Material World, Book 2
By: K.C. Wells
Narrated by: Seb Yarrick
K.C. Wells does it again, she pens another wonderful novella for her “A Material World” series and I loved every minute of it. I enjoy K.C writing style and the characters and storylines she creates. This book is Joel Hunter and Ross Dauntry’s story and what a story it is. Joel is a Detective and the case he is working on takes him into a bar where there are live performers. This is where he first lays eyes on Satin, a performer who Joel is intrigued with. Joel is straight and has not had luck with dating or finding the right woman. Finding himself drawn to Satin he goes back to see her again and gets to meet Ross, the man who performs as Satin. These two clicked immediately and even though Joel was reluctant at first but they agree to meet for coffee as friends. Joel is conflicted but he finds he enjoys spending time with Ross and wants more. It is a big step for him but Joel realizes he is attracted to Ross in a sexual way and he finally gives in to his desires. I thought these two were perfect together and for each other. I loved how everything plays out in this book, it is a novella sized book that packs a lot of story, a story that is beautifully plotted with drama, heartfelt and emotional moments, some laughs, some hot sexy times and a wonderful romance. K.C. Wells, thank you for another enjoyable and entertaining story!
And for the terrific narration, Sen Yarrick is a talented narrator and versatile voice artist. He brings these characters to life, humanizes them giving each their own distinct voice which makes it easy to follow along and tell who is who. His portrayal of the characters is spot on, he grasps each persona, takes each role and makes it his own. You could hear how much heart he puts into his work as he captures the characters emotions and projects them into his performance. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another fabulous listen.
Satin is part of the A Materials World series, but it is not connected to the first book in anyway. Satin is a lovely book about a man who discovers his sexuality is not so straight and another man who finally can find a relationship where he can trust his heart to his partner. This was a wonderful book – the plot was low angst, but there was still enough internal drama to create conflict with the characters. The sex scenes were extremely hot and steamy, and so, so sensual. I really liked how the characters developed and how their relationship grew with them. I felt really good once I finished this book and enjoyed every moment of it.
Seb Yarrick narrated the audiobook and did a fantastic job. I love his voice and how well he voiced all the characters. He brought out the sensual sultriness of Satin/Ross which really enhanced the story. The audiobook production was well done and overall it was a great listening experience.
I was given a free audio copy from the author and the GRR arc team for review.

Female impersonator
I loved it. I had applied to listen to Denim but was sent this one instead and after reading the write up I didn’t think I’d like it (I’m not normally into books where the guy claims to be straight) but I was pleasantly surprised. It was great. Joel and Ross were such a great couple. They had great chemisty and were each interesting and likeable on their own. It’s a sweet read/listen with a little angst and medium heat. Great writing and interesting plot that I didn’t want to stop listening to.
The narrator did a fantastic job. They had a great voice/British accent. They kept a good pace and used different voices for the characters. They did an great performance expressing all the emotions. This narrator was a perfect choice for this book.
This is a review for both ebook and audible version.
Satin is a Bi-Awakening with an HEA and low angst.
Reading and listening to this book put me a zone, in my mind’s eye I was at the book seeing the everything played put.
Imaging Satin on the stage singing and softly swaying to the music, it seemed so real.
The story of Ross (Satin, stage name) and Joel touches the readers in various ways. 1. Coming to terms and embracing your sexuality.
2. Trusting that someone is attracting to you as a person and not your outward appearance (dressed a a female) and no matter what they will stay by your side.
3. Believing that it is possible to fall hard and fast for someone.
K.C. had a way of describing her characters and scenes that gives you dreamy feeling and makes you forget everything going on around, even if only for a minutes. Not only in this book but in all her work.
Thank you again K.C. Well, excellent works and thank Seb Yarrick giving these characters a voice.
I’m reviewing the audio version. I was so drawn to listen to this story. Mixing a straight cop and an impersonator how fun is that. The author knows how to put them together to make a amusing story. First the copy doesn’t know its not a woman he’s attracted to. Then I’m not sure Joel is ready for the impersonator, Ross Daltry. This attraction forces Joel to admit he is bisexual. The way Joel admits to loving Ross is wonderful. The narration of Seb Yarrick really brings the characters to life. This is the first story I’ve read/listened to of this series but now I have to get the rest. I was given a free copy by Gay Romance Reviews and I want to thank them for introducing me to this series.
I really enjoyed this book …and the narration of the audio is superb!!!
It is about a “straight” detective constable and a “female impersonator, NOT drag queen” who sings beautifully, dances even better… and likes to wear red satin dresses in which he feels empowered and sexy
The satin can feel cool on the skin, but this is one HOT read … enjoy too!
Loved this book
Although its book 2 in the series, they aren’t actually connected.
Straight cop Joel Hunter is on stake out in a bar and is interested in the female singer Satin.
This is a well written straight to bisexual story and full of Am I / Aren’t I. Joel struggles to confirm to himself that he may have feelings for Ross (Satin). I loved the narration from Seb Yarrick, can’t wait to read/listen to Silk, next one in the series.
There is heat and sex, push and pull. Banter from fellow police officers, good and bad. What more do we need, Ohh yes, an HEA.
