Annie used to believe in all that happily ever after crap, until the day she found out her Prince Charming husband was a conman with a wandering eye. On the same day she booted him to the curb, an alien fleet double-parked over Earth and life as she knew it ended. To survive she joined a militia unit and used her unique physic powers to fight off the alien invaders. She was so successful she … earned the swell nickname of the Grim Reaper. Now she must fight for her own freedom because Saul Jones, a Coletti-hybrid warlord, has decided she’s his and he won’t stop until he possesses her.
General Saul Jones has his hands full. Not only is he a four-star Marine general, he’s also a Coletti warlord. To complicate matters, he’s the Coletti Overlord’s liaison to Earth and one of the patriarchs of “the” Jones clan. Raising his blood pressure even more is his teenage psychic daughter who has found her mate before she’s of legal age. Can you say raging hormones? Not to mention the headaches of dealing with all the interspecies head-butting and Central Command. He has a million and one things needing his attention and at long last he discovers the other half of his soul. Annie Russell aka the Grim Reaper. Instead of running into his arms, Annie’s running as far and fast as she can.

Nothing says, ‘I love you’ and I want to play hard to get to a Coletti Warlord like sic-cing a flock of birds to crap on the guy and assuring him that he’ll never catch you as you tear off into the Arizona desert on a dirt bike. General Saul Jones, US Marine General and hybrid Coletti thrills to the chase and know he’s met his match in feisty Annie with the incredible psychic powers and a touch of witch magic. Easy and fun, spicy and exciting, each new installment in the Coletti Warlords series are addictive and engaging.
Sassing Saul is the tenth of the Coletti Warlord sci-fi romances. The series works best when read in order as Saul has been a prominent character since the beginning and Annie was introduced in the previous book. The worldbuilding and current plot grows through the series and these later books assume the reader has read the series in order.
So, yes, our handsome silver fox General Saul, head of the wild and rambunctious Jones clan all gifted psychics and the best defense earth has against alien invaders with a taste for the flesh of earthlings. He along with the other earth leaders has allied with the Coletti- a race of warring and pillaging warlords who got themselves into a bit of difficulty when their conquering, marauding ways landed them with a war torn world and a dying race if they can’t find compatible females. Enter stage left the Jones clan.
Saul and the other Jones have sacrificed being completely human to keep their planet and people safe, but now it is Saul’s turn to find some happiness in it all- if he can get the sassy, wary Annie to give love one more chance. Unlike the Coletti, he understands full well that earth women will resist being tossed over a guy’s shoulder and hauled off as his. He wants the infernal woman to want him back so courtship is in order. If only the Earth First psychos and the Rodan would stop attacking and plotting long enough for him to have a nice dinner, a dance, or a walk on the beach with the gorgeous woman.
Annie has been courted and wooed once in her life already. She gave the wrong guy her heart and he cleaned out all her money, cheated on her with an old widow, and later tried to turn her in for bounty on psychic women. Never again, she insists. She tossed aside the rose-colored glasses and went to war against the alien invaders earning the nick name Grim Reaper for her kill count. Now, here she is again being chased by a determined male. After a while, she wonders if he might just be different and worth being caught.
Saul and Annie’s story was full of the usual madcap fun and excitement of sexy flirting during the chase, action-packed fights with the alien enemy and humans who are little more than traitors and terrorists against their own race, and an overall good time. There was lots of time with previous couples- the girls night outs were the best- and my favorite scary alien, Adan, ready to eat the bad guys or out draw them on the street of Old Tuscon, whatever comes first.
These always read fast and fun for me. Definitely a guilty pleasure and one of my most anticipated reads of the year. Those who enjoy zany and spicy fun in their sci-fi romance should definitely give this series a go.
Side note: The first two books are out of print, but readers will have no trouble beginning with Vexing Voss and going forward from there.
Loved Saul and Annie
General Saul Jones, the patriarch of the Jones family and hybrid Coletti Warlord, is Zarek’s right hand on Earth. He has found his mate. A powerful women the last of her line of Scottish witches. She has been right under his nose for years.
Annie Russell, has an MBA and was a successful business women. When her beloved maternal grandmother became ill she walked away to care for her. After her death she thought she found love, only to be betrayed. Then the invasion happened and she put her pent up anger into killing the Tia-Kok and Rodan. She found a job at a wild west show and tried to stay under the Coletti’s radar. Young Casey Jones, aka Annie Oakley, figured it out, but kept her secret. Now she has been found and Saul Jones has staked his claim
When Saul finally catches up to his very resourceful mate, he is as furious as he is proud. Casey gave him her back story and he is up to the challenge of wooing his mate. So a resort vacation is planned. Zarek and Detja, and Casey and Hothar are joining them. Annie is having trouble letting go of the past to see a future, so Zarek mucks around in her head, and gives her the peace she needs. When duty calls the women are left behind. Detja plans a ladies night, Kaylee joining in. The Jones female curse follows them where ever the go.
Kidnapping.
Street Fight.
Dragging Shrek to Vegas.
Fun fast paced and steamy. Great Alien invasion series. Hoping the rest of the Jones men Ethan, Caleb and Jake and maybe Uncle Derek get a story.
4.5 stars for a great read. -.5 for typos, missed words and grammatical errors
Always a fun time with the Coletti!
What I love the most about these books is the lighthearted tone and undercurrent of straight-up fun that is spread throughout. It’s like Annie and the rest of the ladies are on level 100 and their enemies are on level 6, so there’s an almost invincible, “no worries, we got this” vibe, and it makes for some funny situations!
Annie was coming off of some tough times, but when life chewed her up and spit her out, it made her tough as nails. She was definitely someone you did not want to mess with. But Saul tried. Boy, did he try. But he learned quickly that Annie was not some shrinking violet he could command and expect her to listen. That, too, made for some funny situations.
I enjoyed catching up with characters I met in previous books, specifically Casey and Hothar, and I hope to revisit Saul and Annie to see how they are doing in the next book!
(I was given this book in consideration of my honest thoughts)
