One of my all-time favorite books. When I visited Salisbury and Sarum everything looked EXACTLY as described in the book.
Sarum, the story of Salibury starting in the pre-celtic times of England, or more accurately the territory that later became known as England. The story is told through the personal lives of a few original characters whose descendants are followed along the centuries.
This is one of my favorite Books I have ever read. And, I have read thousands of books. This book keeps you involved and you can’t wait to see what happens next excelentread.
A very enjoyable way to learn the history of southern England. I have read it twice and enjoyed the style and story.
This isn’t any old novel. It’s a novel rolled up in the beginnings of England. I would have never thought it possible to do. It is unique and informative and so masterfully done. I hope it is done with other countries. I would buy and read them all. The beginning of it’s slow, but it has to describe it to you to get it started. I don’t think the …
An interesting book for history buffs!
Best historical fiction in my 2017 list
Great history and a terrific story
Rutherfurd writes epochs. His books can span millennia in an exquisite tale of a land and its people centering on several families, their evolutions, interactions and dramas. He is brilliant. This is like Garcia Marquez’ “One Hundred Years of Solitude”, except grander in scope and history. In “Sarum”, we learn the history of Salisbury, England …

The author mixes in realtime and the past and what could have happened so well you find yourself there in mind and spirit particapating in the …
Great read
To long.
Extremely dry reading. Had to take long breaks in between eras explored but very well written. Just couldn’t keep track of all the English history! Sad statement mankind is just so awful to one and other!
Long and drawn out,not worth the time
