The beginning of what I hope will lead to more in this new world. Santino is a bit of a recluse, for good reason. Clara is a struggling college student trying to make ends meet while getting her degree. When she catches the eye of the owner of the Casino/Hotel she works for, her whole world flips upside down and she’s drawn into a world she has no idea exists.
I liked her relationship with Landon, I wonder if we’ll see more of him in future books. The interaction between her and Matthew is comical at times.
There is so much more to Santino than meets the eye, I liked finally getting more of the inside scoop when they were in Rome. His history with Vittoria is explained and we learn more about his family.
To me, it opened up more possibilities for future stories. Not going to lie, I know Nicco’s story has been a long time coming, and I’m glad it seems to be coming sooner now rather than later.
I was beyond excited to hear that Sam JD Hunt was diving into paranormal romance with a vampire tale set on the Las Vegas Strip, and I am very happy to say that Santino the Eternal did not disappoint!
Clara Denton is a struggling college student trying to make ends meet by working as a maid while finishing school. Little did she know how quickly her life could change until she showed up to the Roman Hotel for work and found a bloodless corpse in the room she was supposed to clean. A whirlwind of chaos ensues as Clara finds herself caught up in a serial murder, a cover-up and her handsome, reclusive billionaire boss who just happens to take an interest in her.
Santino the Eternal has avoided emotions and ties with the humans that surround him . . . until he runs into Clara Denton. At first, Santino is only trying to make sure Clara does not realize just exactly what type of creature committed the crime she stumbled upon, but things quickly change. For the first time since he was changed into an Eternal, Santino finds himself not only interested in a human, but having feelings for her as well.
Will Santino be able to give in to his feelings and explore the possibility of a relationship with Clara while keeping her safe and in the dark about what he really is? Throw in a handsome vampire hunter with a huge social media following, Clara’s gay roommate who likes to party and is studying to be a cop, an eternal personal assistant who happens to be Santino’s ex-wife and a serial killer on the loose targeting Santino’s past lovers and watch as chaos ensues.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were well written and had unique personalities. Clara is as independent as it comes, and works hard to be successful so she can have a better future than where she came from. Santino seems to have everything an eternal can wish for . . . except love. Even while pursuing Clara, he worries if love can last more than a lifetime. I loved watching their relationship grow as Clara had to learn to trust and Santino had to learn how to navigate through his emotions so he could connect with Clara on a personal level. The secondary characters were also interesting and brought a lot to the story.
The plot was unique and had some fantastic and unexpected twists. I loved Sam’s unique perspective in this vampire love story. I’m thrilled that this is only book one, as there are so many possibilities and places that Sam JD Hunt can take us with her Eternals.
4.5 stars and the hope that Sam is already plotting out the next book in this series!
