When Evie James decides to become the rock princess everyone on campus wants her to be, she falls off a cliff, and only Nick Barrens can catch her before it’s too late.
I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one, and I was not disappointed! A terrific read.

“Better they love the lie than be disappointed by the truth.”
I’ve been wondering what Evie was up to. She’s been telling the family she was ‘fine’ but she’s been absent from the Devil’s Share compound for a while. I knew she was hiding something, but I didn’t know what. Usually, the Devil’s Spawn keeps in close contact and they know what’s going on with each other, even if they keep the parents in the dark. But Evie is keeping secrets and this reader has been dying to find out what she’s hiding.
I’ve been a L.P. Maxa fan for a long time. I’ve followed her and devoured every book. I even read a paranormal by accident because I didn’t bother to read the synopsis first. And guess what? I loved it too! Some of the things I love most about her writing is the witty banter and family support among characters. Not even necessarily blood family, sometimes it’s friend-family that surpasses the other kind. Such is the case with the Devil’s Share rockstar family and their wives and offspring. They’ve always been there for each other, at least they would be if given the opportunity. Many times they are kept in the dark, but it never fails that eventually what is hidden comes out in the most surprising of ways and never intentionally. It’s always very exciting to anticipate when and how that event will occur.
Because Evie’s been away at college, away from the compound, I’ve not gotten to know her in the previous books in the series. There have only been little snippets that gave me just tiny glimpses, enough to amp up my curiosity and have me excited to know more. And when I did, it broke my heart. I wanted to send out an SOS and call in the troops for some family intervention. But it was not my call and I had to suffer through Evie’s choice to hide her problems and become the rock princess everyone expects her to be.
Nick, whom Evie occasionally thinks of as a “stupid handsome tattooed god”, is all that minus the stupid. He’s smart enough to see past what Evie is showing the rest of the world. He sees the real her and she can’t hide the truth from him. Seeing herself through his eyes is a wakeup call that forces her to make some hard choices. And when she does, will he still be around to catch her when she falls? Will he be her sanctuary?
I have to give a shout-out about some of the amazing characters introduced in this story that takes place in the town where Evie is attending college. I fell hard for them and hope that they will be included in future Riffraff Records stories. I’m guilty of some mental matchmaking and it will burst my bubble if I don’t get to see it played out. Fingers crossed. The line forms here…

Sanctuary is my favorite book out of all of L.P. Maxa books. It’s the story about Evie, Smith’s oldest daughter. She was the bookworm the quiet calm one. Evie went away to college in Dallas. Her first day people were whispering about her. Everyone was disappointed she was boring and not the fun rock princess. People wanted to use her for her name. She needed to get out and stumbled upon a tattoo shop and a tattooed god, Nicky. Nicky, tattooed her, bought her dinner, then had a one night stand. Waking up alone, disappointed and hurt he let Evie go. After two years of not seeing Evie, she stumbles back in his shop, but she has changed and not for the better, but Nicky determined to help her to be her sanctuary.
I can not describe how much I love this book. This is one of my top five favorite books ever. Evie was the good girl, sweet quiet one, and Maxa proves in this story they you always need to worry about the quiet ones. Nicky have mercy, he is sex on a stick. Yes he might be a tattooed god, but it’s his heart that wins you. He is the nice, caring, compassionate guy that has an old soul. He is a true white knight that keeps on fighting even though Evie doesn’t want him to. Their chemistry is hot together. You can actually feel like they were made for each other. This story focuses more on Evie being away from home so you don’t get to see much of the Devil’s Share clan, but don’t worry, they will be there at some point. I connected to this story on so many levels and it’s about as realistic as it comes to serious issues. I highly recommend you read this one.
Another amazing read by LP Maxa!
