Hardworking, successful lawyer Nora Ramsey, was at the height of her career. Now, she’s questioning everything in Murrell’s Inlet, South Carolina. When she accepts her aunt’s dilapidated estate as her inheritance, Nora is plagued with misgivings and doubt. When a mysterious black stallion appears on the property, she prays for guidance and receives it in the form of veterinarian Shaw Flynn.… Flynn.
Dedicated and rugged, he assists Nora through the trying time. In Shaw, she sees someone gentle, caring and deeply devoted to God. The more she’s with him, the more he inspires her to embrace her own faith. And as their relationship blossoms into a something real and beautiful—like the coastal sunsets of Murrell’s Inlet—Nora stumbles upon Shaw’s deepest secret. Her trust is destroyed and the wisdom of her life-changing decision shaken as the future she envisioned is threatened.
As the truth becomes clear, can she find forgiveness within the sanctuary of her heart or will his betrayal destroy her faith in him once and for all?

One of the best written ever. Must read and will probably read again.
I liked the book. I liked the ending. I would read more of her books.
Suspense
I really liked it. Nora was a hot shot attorney working herself to death. She received a once in a lifetime inheritance, and wavered on whether or not to accept it. Finally, she made the right choice. Shaw is the local vet, and they belonged together, but because of her inability to forgive, I thought they would not make it. Common sense came through in the end, and boy gets girl. Good story line.
Good story. Tells us not to let work take priority over family…they won’t live forever.
I really enjoyed this one….sometimes bad things happen to good people, but God is still in control. Life takes unexpected turns but this can be a good thing.
Very interesting
Twists and turns in this book kept it interesting and I found the plot unique but true to life as our Pastor had a home situation much like Shaw. Not an easy life but worthy of great respect. Highly recommend and it’s easy to read in a short amount of time.
Highly recommend – I was deeply drawn into this story
As an older woman, I could strongly relate to Nora. Chasing a title, a career which consumes your entire life, leaving you empty and abandoned. Been there. I love the way her life shifts and the conclusion of the book. Laurie, you have become a favorite author. This is the first book of yours I have read and I look forward to more!
I wanted to read a Christian oriented book with a good story line and I found it in this book. So refreshing to read a story that reflects honest emotions through wonderful characters. It’s very easy to get caught up in the feelings each of the the characters are experiencing and identify with them. The faith that is demonstrated in various parts are most appropriate and makes the reader wonder why they can’t do the same. The story line is easy to identify what the conclusion will be but…… the manner in which the author accomplishes the task is what gels the whole book together. Thank you for an excellent read, Laurie.
SANCTUARY is a contemporary, Christian romance.
This is an easy read with a nice pace although there are some issues raised, which may be uncomfortable for some readers.
Nora is a driven and successful lawyer, who sometimes acts as though she only has half a brain, but her character grows and develops, as she has to decide on whether to accept her new life or go back to the old one.
Shaw comes across as a devout and likeable man; living under the shadow of a dark secret that threatens both his and Nora’s future happiness.
The budding romance between Nora and Shaw is fun to watch and nicely handled. Until his past is revealed and Nora runs around like a headless chicken, but sanity prevails, and everything is almost too neatly wrapped up.
I was really disappointed in this book. The “deepest secret” turned out to be that the Male love interest is already married. The author tries to justify what a great guy he still is, what a unique situation it is, and how in tune with God he is, but for me, the fact remains that he is being unfaithful to his wife and I don’t believe that is something that God condones. In the end, the mentally ill wife dies, making him “free” to pursue a relationship that will “make him happy”. Ick.
Had a real hard time getting into this book…read 24% then quit…I will let it rest then give it one more chance…we will see!
Characters fall for each other in no time. A little too corny for me to finish.
Was hard to finish. Story dragged.
A little slow. Nice story but didn’t captivate as much as other books.
