I love Amish fiction. Even if you don’t, I think you will love this book. It is a delightful contemporary Christian Amish novel with a mystery and light romance. This book has something for everyone. It is the story of Dave and Delilah, an Amish girl. A book has been written about an Amish girl named Delilah and everyone is trying to find here.
Characters come to life on the pages and I found myself wondering if this was a true story. Now that is the mark of a good writer. Each character was realistic and had flaws as well as redeeming points. I became invested immediately and was drawn to the main character Delilah. She seemed like the kind of person I would befriend.
The cat and mouse chase with media had me turning pages. I was hoping they would not get caught. My emotions were overshadowed by those in the book. I was in deep!
There are many life lessons in this story. Forgiveness, redemption, lying, trusting God, and secrets are just a few of the ones tackled. It is a beautiful story with a few surprise twists and turns. The Christian Message is not hidden which is important to me in Christian books.
I highly recommend this lovely Amish tale to everyone. It has something for anyone with the mystery, adventure, romance, Amish, and contemporary story. I rated it 4 out of 5 stars. A copy was provided by Celebrate Lit but this is my honest opinion.
Thomas Nye has penned a phenomenal and poignant story that will be hard to put down once you start reading Samson and Amish Delilah. You don’t hear Delilah for a name, but within the Amish community there are girls named Delilah.
The story about Dave’s journey to find the American idol Delilah from a renowned novel gave his life a ride he didn’t anticipate. This book is filled with unexpected twists and turns, flashbacks to a particular summer, hidden secrets, God’s amazing love and forgiveness. The primary characters are three dimensional with their attributes and flaws, lack of faith then renewed faith, flexibility, and fortitude along with caring family members. A rush to get out of down to prevent being pursued by others brought intense moments with my heart pounding as what was going to happen next in their travels. Little Earl was a star with his spunk, brightness and love of horses. I chuckled with some of his remarks and imagination but what a delight to have him along. Samson and Amish Delilah just may be the book of the year with the dual time line of events. I would love to see a sequel to this book.
I look forward to reading more of Thomas Nye books filled with delightful characters, horses, action and God’s love and forgiveness.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was under no obligation to write a positive review. I have shared my own sincere thoughts.
Samson & Amish Delilah had my attention from the moment I read the very first word. It was a story that captured my heart and my imagination. I absolutely could not put the book down. I was invested in what was going to happen with Delilah, Dave (Samson), and Earl.
One of my favorite parts of this book involved Dave, Delilah, and Earl along with a treehouse they discover. The paparrazzi are chasing Dave, Delilah, and Earl because an author has written a book about Delilah. But the story takes some twists and turns I did not expect. What is stranger is how the book mimics their real life. The author of the book apparently has a lot of insight into what is going on around him.
My one complaint about this book is the ending. I want to read more of their story, so I hope there is a sequel.
So if you like Amish fiction with a twist, check out this book for yourself.
Samson and Amish Delilah
Dave has been hired to find the famous Delilah from a book. He thinks he has found her but a lot of things to consider.
This is one of those books I have to be careful not to give any spoilers. I do recommend reading the book. It is a fun book to read and lot of surprises. The cinnamon rolls sounds so good, I wish I could have one.
I loved having the little boy in the story named Earl. He was so cute.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher through Celebrate Lit. This book review is my own opinion.
This book is a wonderful example of learning to forgive yourself for mistakes you have made in the past. We can’t change the past, but we can make the present better. In this book the two main characters each have a past as teenagers that they have regrets from. I loved the way the author brought them together in a story that spans from the teenage years to the present.
I thought the writing was good and Delilah was a wonderful young woman who has tried to overcome a mistake she made in the past. Living the Amish life can be difficult for young people and Delilah has lived with a secret for a long time. When a book comes out about an Amish girl named Delilah , people go crazy trying to find who the real Delilah is from the book.
Dave has been sent to find the Delilah that was written in the book and get a picture of her. Most of us know that the Amish don’t allow pictures taken of them but Dave is determined to succeed because he needs the money. I found it quite interesting how the author used Princess Diana in comparison with Delilah. The paparazzi were relentless in pursuing Princess Diana and the same thing was happening with Delilah. The fascination of this young woman was spreading rapidly and I could feel the tension when the paparazzi were getting close to identifying Delilah.
I liked the way the author tells a story of forgiveness loosely using a story from the Bible. It is easy to understand how something from your past can affect your future in this story of forgiveness and faith. Forgiveness is one of the hardest things to overcome. I have found that when you do forgive, you feel a big weight has been lifted off your shoulder. I am looking forward to the follow up book that the author has hinted at.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
I haven’t read an Amish story quite like Samson and Amish Delilah but this isn’t meant as a critical comment. Author Thomas Nye shares dual stories about two young women named Delilah and even though I thought the story was a little slow at the beginning, I soon found myself eager to learn more. Nye uses many twists and turns and some hidden secrets and as I continued to read, I began to understand the importance of finding the real Amish Delilah and the reference to Samson in this book title.
Forgiveness is a central theme in this story and the words of Delilah’s grandfather explain it best. “If you realize that your own sins put Jesus on that cross, then you can forgive others.” These are words that are practiced daily by Amish people and they are what all of us should try to do! I also appreciated that the importance of being raised by Godly parents was shown in both Amish and English families.
This is my first Thomas Nye book and I wonder if perhaps he will continue the story of Dave, Delilah, and a great little boy named Earl?
I received a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
My Thoughts on Samson and Amish Delilah:
This book made me mad. It ended way too soon. There is so much more I want to know! Like what happens next? I’ve got to know. The author is hinting at a sequel and I’m just saying there better be one or I for one will be a mad reader left hanging in the lurch.
Samson, Delilah, and Earl are all great characters. I loved getting to know them and learning all about them. Delilah and Earl are Amish while Samson or rather Dave (David) is decidedly not.
David has a lot of growing and changing to do within the novel. Not because he’s a bad guy but because he doesn’t quite get what forgiveness truly looks like both human and from God. Once he learns that nothing can stop him. Also, he has to realize that money and the plans of man aren’t everything.
Earl is the cutest character! I’m partial to children and he’s a hoot! He loves horses and quickly grasps and learns key points in English. Definitely a smart little guy that understands more English than he can speak.
Can Delilah and David come to terms with the sins and mistakes of their past? Will they forgive themselves so that each of them can move on with life or maybe find a future together?
Highly recommend this book. The first time I’ve read anything by this author and I love his style of writing. I do have to say I would change some of the illustrations just because teenage Delilah looked a bit too uncovered to me. I get why he does this I just don’t fully agree with it. Still a strong recommend and I can’t wait for the sequel to come out.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
SAMSON & AMISH DELILAH by Thomas Nye is the fabulously well-written story about Dave, an Englischer, who’s trying to find the real Amish Delilah that his Dad portrayed when he wrote the book “Samson and Delilah”, and Delilah, an Amish girl who works as a waitress at DJ’s, the local diner, to help support her family.
Dave sets out to find the real Amish Delilah that the book was written about in order to get photographs of her. The photographs will earn him a substantial amount of money. Enough that when added to his savings would allow him to fulfill his dream of opening a restaurant. Everyone is in love with the Amish Delilah though leading many others trying to find her as well to collect the money. Through conversations with his mother, his Christian beliefs and wanting to do what is right, he knows that after he finds her that he won’t take the photos without her permission and her understanding of how the photos would change her life.
Delilah’s family is struggling financially but thriving emotionally. Her Dad suffered injuries from a buggy accident that left him confined to a wheelchair making it virtually impossible for him to be the main bread winner for the family. Delilah, being the oldest child, has always stepped in to do everything possible for her family from making cinnamon rolls that they deliver to the local diner every morning before 6 a.m. and working as a waitress at the same place to taking on all the household chores and caring for the smaller children while her Mom was at the hospital with her Dad. The money Dave is offering would ease their financial burden with all the medical bills, but not worth sacrificing their religious beliefs to do so. That being the case and after meeting and getting to know Delilah and her family, Dave is in agreement with them although the thoughts of the payoff still dance in his hear. Dave offers to take Delilah away to a family member’s house in another state to avoid all the paparazzi that he knows will eventually find her just as he did. Little five year old Earl also goes with them making it more acceptable for an unmarried woman to be alone with an unmarried man for the long journey. Their trip ends up being full of both detours and exciting adventures – some fun and some dangerous.
Did Dave find the real Amish Delilah from his Dad’s book? Does helping Delilah mean giving up on his dreams? Is it just a coincidence that the first and only girl he’s ever fallen head over hills in love with and the Amish girl working at the dinner having the same name? Can Dave manage to keep Delilah safe and away from the camera lens? Did Dave’s Dad write his book as sort of a road map for his son? Is there even a hint of that answer in the title? Will Dave end up finding more than the real Delilah?
SAMSON & AMISH DELILAH is a book that you won’t want to put down once you start reading. The story is compelling as the author lays out the bases for the story, leads you around the curves in the story which involve the past and the present, and up and downs of elation and despair while detouring the main road blockings as Dave searches for answers and happiness. Thomas Nye proves that Amish and Englischer can come together in a story showing some of both societies and how in some ways that are very much alike and how we can learn from each other. He shows how romance can be sweet while maybe not entirely innocent and how it can be told in a way that you wouldn’t mind your young teenager reading it.
For a wonderful reading experience, please take my recommendation and read SAMSON & AMISH DELILAH. You will not be disappointed! A must read if you love the Amish genre, a sweet romance or just a wonderfully written book. I’d give it more if possible, but since I can’t I give it a big 5+ stars.
What I think you should know:
Samson and Amish Delilah is a contemporary Amish fiction. Dave’s mission is to find Delilah, the young Amish woman who was the inspiration for a best selling novel, however when the real Deliliah doesn’t want to be found he will do everything in his power to protect her. Along the way he makes discoveries that will leave him with more questions than answers
What you might want to know:
The books contains teen pregnancy and a glimpse of the events that led up to the pregnancy.
What I enjoyed about this book:
While I am not sure that I was instantly drawn into the story I know that it wasn’t long before I was caught up in the journeys of both Dave and Delilah and the young” Samson and Delilah. My heart ached for the mistakes made and the consequences that Delilah faced alone. While I enjoyed the book I am not thrilled with the conclusion, I need to know more about what happens to all the characters that I have grown to love, however the author has hinted at a squeal in the future.
Who will enjoy this book ( Just to name a few):
Fans of Christian Fiction
Fans of Amish Fictions
I received a complimentary copy for this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
A book about a fictional book based on reality, and to find the woman the book is based on, we journey along.
As we travel through several States we endeavor to learn more about this “Englisher” and his travel companions, an Amish woman and her six-year-old brother.
As they travel references are made to Princess Di, and you get the feeling that history may be repeating itself, as they work and run to try and loose the media.
Facts are revealed, and surprises abound, although I concluded the ending early on, you get to enjoy precocious Earl!
I received this book through Celebrate Lit, and was not required to give a positive review.
Samson and Delilah’s story was an interesting tale and not really what I expected. This book had a couple of firsts for me. One I have never read an Amish book by a male author, and male authors have very different writing styles then females and that makes books interesting. Second, I have never read a book about Sampson and Delilah. Most people don’t write about them, I am not sure why. However, this book is very loosely related to their story, as in if you didn’t know their names to be looking for that specific storyline you probably wouldn’t notice it. I loved the twists in this book and thought It was a great ending to the story… or a possible lead into the next book in the series?
For me, the start of this book was quite slow, and I had a lot of trouble following the story and getting engaged with the characters. There seemed to be a lot of over expressed emotions and things repeated (which is somewhat understandable with the characters reading a book that closely follows what is happening in the book). I was very excited to read this book based off the description; however, the story fell short on what I expected and hoped for. Based on the overall book I give this story a 3 out of 5 stars for the creativity of Thomas Nye in crafting a dual storyline, for the interesting premise, and the great ending… or beginning? I think Thomas Nye has the potential to be a great storyteller, this one is a good book, just not my personal favorite.
I volunteered to read this book in return for my honest feedback. The thoughts and opinions expressed within are my own.
I enjoyed this story. This book was a little bit different than most books I have read about the Amish. This does show how some Amish people might react if they became famous for some reason. I really liked the characters of Samson, Delilah and Earl. I received a copy of this book from Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
Sam is on the hunt for a young Amish lady, Deliliah, who has been an example written about in an Amish Fiction novel. He’s been offered a lot of money to find her. He has some inside information and now all he has to do is convince her to let him name her. Fame, money and new adventures… how could she not want this? One thing he’s forgotten. Amish do not wish for any of those things and the story takes some twists and turns as Samson realizes he just may be the other main character in the original story!
I was gifted a book, no review was required.. My review is voluntary.
I have enjoyed every book I have read by Thomas Nye and Samson and Amish Delilah Is no different. It tells the story of a famous novel about an Amish woman named Delilah. Americans fell in love with the character Delilah and soon find out it was based on a real Delilah. Suddenly, this real Delilah goes on the “run” with Dave to keep her identity a secret and stay away from the media.
I liked Samson and Amish Delilah. It was fun getting to know Delilah and her sweet little brother. Dave gets himself into more than he expected. They get into quite an adventure. There are some twists and turns I did not see coming.
I am giving Samson and Amish Delilah four stars. I recommend it for readers who enjoy a good and clean Amish read. I can not wait to see where Thomas Nye’s imagination takes his readers to in his next release.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
