Ben Mears has returned to Jerusalem’s Lot in hopes that exploring the history of the Marsten House, an old mansion long the subject of rumor and speculation, will help him cast out his personal devils and provide inspiration for his new book. But when two young boys venture into the woods, and only one returns alive, Mears begins to realize that something sinister is at work—in fact, his hometown … hometown is under siege from forces of darkness far beyond his imagination. And only he, with a small group of allies, can hope to contain the evil that is growing within the borders of this small New England town.
With this, his second novel, Stephen King established himself as an indisputable master of American horror, able to transform the old conceits of the genre into something fresh and all the more frightening for taking place in a familiar, idyllic locale.

This is the first King book I read and got hooked.
Ben Mears arrives in Jerusalem’s lot to revisit his past. The Marsten house is what interests Ben most but has been sold to an unknown person. There is a tragic history to the house and it looks like the legacy of evil is about to repeat itself. When people begin to disappear though, will Ben be able to get the answers he is looking for or become a suspect?
This was very good and you could visualize every aspect but at times it was choppy as it jumped from characters to characters. Overall I did like the book thought there was a ton of subplots going on but would try another of Stephen King’s books.
Classic Stephen King. You can’t go wrong reading or re-reading this book.
I have read Salem’s Lot several times and it scares me every time even though
I know what happens. Fantastic read.
I first read this book in the seventies and have never forgotten it. A wonderful example of the power of the pen to transport you to another world-although a scary one
Typical Stephen King! We all know he is a superb wordsmith. He has a way of lulling you right into the story and building the suspense to nail-biting intensity. He’s the best at what he does and this is one of his best efforts.
I read this book as a teenager. I re-read it as an adult. It is so scary that it will still make me sleep with my head under the covers.
It’s Stephen King, do I need to say more?
In a time of sparkly vampires and cuddly werewolves, this horror novel is a great read with clearly evil monsters. Twists and turns drive the story with complex characters and heart-pounding action.
When I first found out that my book club was going to read a Stephen King novel I was excited, especially since it was dealing with vampires and it was right around Halloween. The story follows Ben Mears, a writer returning to a small town to write his latest novel. While he tries to fit back in, while also romancing Susan, two young boys wonder off into the forest and all hell breaks lose on the small, unsuspecting town. I LOVED this book! Everything about it! A total win for me. I loved all the characters, especially Jimmy, and was constantly putting things aside just so I could finish it. This book comes highly recommended and I can tell you, you won’t be disappointed.
One of the scariest books I’ve ever read. Stephen Kong has a knack for shaking you to your soul.
Stephen King writing about vampires. I had to read it. The whole story I was captivated. It was like I was pulled into his words and live the adventure with the characters. I really enjoyed it.
The first “King” I ever read… Been hooked ever since
One of King’s best books

This was the first book I read by King. It made me a life-long fan.
The first book i ever read by SK. Have been hooked every since.
I’m a long long-time Stephen King fan, and now a huge fan of King’s narration. Hearing the words and the characters the way he imagined them in his mind, it just doesn’t any better. Salem’s Lot is a favorite of mine, having the book available via Audible with narration by King and Ron McLarty, outstanding!
Inspired
All of Stephen King’s books are fantastic, he is a master of horror and have also read most of his books, I recommend all his books!!
