Scarlett-When going to war, there are three very simple rules one must abide by. 1.Know thy enemy2.Be prepared to sacrifice.3.Always wear good shoesAfter all, revenge is a dish best served in stilettos. I’ve got an eye for it, and nothing’s going to stand in my way. Not even Rory ‘The Saint’ Brodrick. He’s a fool if he thinks he can change me. By the time I’m through with him, I’ll make his mafia … change me. By the time I’m through with him, I’ll make his mafia look like child’s play.
Cross me, Mr. Brodrick?
You better cross your heart and hope to die.
Rory-
I’m a fighter. A hustler. A mobster.
I’ve seen a few things in my day.
But I’ve never encountered anything like her.
She’s a beauty with a beast of a heart. The poison apple I just can’t resist. And in her trail she leaves a wake of men crawling on their knees.
What she doesn’t know is that I like my women wild.
It only makes it that much more fun to tame them.
This is a DARK mafia romance. A full-length standalone novel with HEA and no cheating.

Once again, this author took me to another world with her words. This is book 4 of her Boston Underworld Series. Scarlett’s (Tenly) and Rory’s tale is one of despair, desperation, paybacks and surprisingly to them, feelings of more than just lust. The emotional highs and lows that these two go through brought tears to my eyes. I’m off to read book 5, Thief.
Saint and the Devil:)
Scarlet is on a mission to exact revenge against those who have wronged her! It has taken years to plan and now Rory has come into her life and she is no longer focused and it’s resulting in some serious errors which could cost her her life. Rory has wanted Scarlet for a while but she is closed off to everything and him. Scarlet puts some plans into motion which involve Rory. Great read and we get our HEA too! Definitely recommend this series, and I’m looking forward to what comes next:)
Rory stole my heart with his sense of humor in the face of tragedy. I truly felt for Scarlett too and loved watching them both overcome their pasts to forge a future together. This was the book in the series that I was wondering right up until the end if they were going to get together. I can’t remember reading a series in a long time where every book was great. Total pageturners – all of them.
Another fantastic addition to this series. Again, like the other books… this book was dark, raw, and intense. But what do we expect from the Irish Mafia? A. Zavarelli certainly knows how to actually make you feel like you are embarking on this journey with these fantastic characters. Rory and Scarlett’s story is a little different then the rest of them but no less gritty and captivating. I enjoyed taking this journey with them.
I was slightly let down by Rory and Scarlett. I enjoyed Scarlett as a side character in the previous novels, but I just didn’t connect with her. She was just too insane for me. And conversely, Rory was too good – which is weird since he’s a mafia killer? Regardless, I was left feeling unsatisfied.
Another great book by A Zavarelli!
I fell in love with the Boston Underground series, and loved this book like the others. This was, however, different than the others. It didn’t quite have the same feel. There was less mafia and more of Scarlett’s story than I was expecting. That doesn’t make it bad, by any means. Scarlett’s story was intriguing, and the revolution of what happened to her and what she was doing to make up for it kept the pages turning.
I loved Rory. I also wanted more of him. I don’t feel like I got to know him as well as I did Crow, Reaper, and Alexei. I loved his sweetness and protectiveness.
I hope there are more stories to come from Ms Zavarelli, because these are some of the best books I’ve read this year, and I definitely want more.
4.5 Saint and Satan stars!! What a ride. My heart broke for Scarlett but loved how strong she is. Saint is amazing, definitely an alpha and bad a**. A must read. Love this series!! My favorite and most fitting quote… “I don’t want to repeat my innocence. I want the pleasure of losing it again.” F. Scott Fitzgerald
A. Zavarelli has done it again – taken the world of mafia love and dumped it on its ass. She’s the queen of romantic, dark suspense and Saint is proof of that. I have been waiting for Scarlett and Rory’s story and I’m so glad I finally got to read it. Scarlett is even more messed up than I could have ever imagined. She’s Satan, and Rory is the Saint, but they’re so deliciously, twistedly perfect together. I can’t say that Scarlett is my favorite heroine, but she is certainly one badass woman. She’s smart, tough and strong. Rory is just as tough and strong, he’s more than her match, he’s her soul mate.
Scarlett is damaged, yes, but it’s certainly not her fault. She was brutally raped years ago by her boyfriend and his friends, and since then, she has been looking for revenge. Well, she certainly gets it, and she uses Rory to get it. That they ended up falling for each other along the way is inevitable, though, and so perfect. No one else could have honestly put up with Scarlett, nor have loved her the way Rory does. She tries like hell, though, to push Rory away, time and again, when she realizes she has feelings for him, but Rory isn’t about to let her get away with it. The man is persistent and has serious staying power. He was determined to save her, from herself, and everyone else. He’s just about the perfect hero in my eyes.
I’m now impatiently waiting for Storm and Booker’s story, it can’t come soon enough for me!!
Ashleigh’s a modern day poetess on a keyboard, tap tapping away the notes of sex and violence in perfectly metered harmony.
Some girls are made of sugar and spice and everything nice. Some are made of venom and sin. When you open the chambers to their hearts, you’ll find- absolutely nothing within.
But I’m like a kid with too many toys and I am torn. I want to come inside of her again . I want to fuck her raw again. I want to come on her tits and her arse and her throat and in her mouth. In a car and on a plane and on a motherfucking train. I want to fuck her all day, every day, and oh fuck… there it is. I explode inside of her mouth.
Tell me that doesn’t play your heart strings …it played mine like a harp !!!!
Scarlett is no ordinary lassie. Frankly , her thirst for blood scares the crap out of me , but she’s unstoppable, rolling tricks, stalking her prey and getting close to her goal of Praetorian Five ! She was a little Birdie in their hands , clipped wings, shattered soul and all, but now she’s a Satan on a mission.
Heartless. Ruthless. Painless.
And where does Rory fit in ? …I’d say everywhere ! He’s a constant in her chaotic life. They’re similar and complete opposites.
He wants her, she pushes him.
He captures her, she escapes him.
He promises her, she crushes him.
What a Dodge And Parry dance they both play !
In the end it’s all out war
One.Two.Three.Four. I declare a blood war !!
Ahhhh what a battle cry, if I ever heard a better one .
She does twinge in regret , for just like a minute tho
If you drink much from a bottle marked ‘poison’ it is certain to disagree with you sooner or later-I grieve what we both became. I grieve the unfairness of life and the hard choices. When it’s all done, I wipe my eyes
With each book, we’re sucked deeper and experience into the violent Boston Underground Club, where strippers, killers, dancers and Russians play a game of Last Man Standing, almost everyday of their lives. Yet they find time to meet their soulmates, marry and have babies.
I love each and every one of these Beast and their Beauties.
Are you serious?……….As a heart attack, baby.
I loved this book. It was twisted and i really like it a lot. Definitley for 18 and older only. If you like dark romance this is definitely for you. I read it all in one sitting.
Striking and hypnotizing, Zavarelli gave me one of the best heroines I’ve read to date. Scarlett is ruthless, with a damaged past, and an icy exterior. Rory and Scarlett are addictive insanity, I couldn’t look away, and I had no idea what was going to happen with them the entire time. Scarlett may have been the first of the heroines in this series that may have been more diabolical than her male counterpart, or is she? Rory is Irish Alpha hotness in the extreme, and these two burned up the pages with their push and pull, hot and cold.
Pulling no punches, you’re not sure if they will implode, but at times you’re not even sure if you want them to have an HEA, but then just like that, you want it more than they do. Their pasts filled with pain, sociopathic tendencies, revenge weaves through the story. Watching Scarlett make concessions that she has never made before made it unable to be put down until I got to the end. These two are crazy hot, and the end was perfect!!! So thankful I was able to voluntarily review another book in one of my most favorite series!!
“Ye’re the hottest little psychopath I’ve ever come across, baby doll. And even if ye were leading me straight to my downfall, I doubt I could say no to ye.”

Saint is book #4 of the Boston Underworld series. It is a stand-alone and can be read as such. I had no problem following the story. Saint follows a path unlike Crow (book #1) and Reaper (book #2). Our hero – Rory – is often referred to as “Saint.” And believe me, he has the patience of a saint when dealing with Scarlett. But there is so much more to Rory….
“I’m a fighter. A hustler. A mobster.”
The heroine (or anti-hero) – Scarlett – has had many terrible things happen in her life which causes her to be the way she is. The story unfolds and we learn of some heinous things that she has had to endure.
“Her beauty is as subtle as a grenade.”
“She’s feminine. Inviting. And no doubt deadly as hell.”
Rory and Scarlett’s story was very raw. There are no hearts and flowers here. They are both survivors. Rory is very patient as he tries to convince Scarlett to give him a chance. Scarlett is in a league of her own. Trust is very difficult if not impossible to gain with Scarlett. In the Irish syndicate there is respect and support. Family is important. Family is everything.
I felt as though this was definitely one of the darkest books in this series. There is a lot of bloodshed. There are a lot of difficult situations. Because of that there are parts of the story that must be told. I will say it was not one of my favorites in the series. But as I said above there are parts that must be told.
I have loved this series so far and I highly recommend it! I have already read Thief which is book #5, and where I originally started. That book holds a special place in my heart!
“Rory isn’t flat like me.
He’s all jagged edges and soft corners. A contradiction of dark masculinity and soft humor. But inside, he feels.”

I really liked this book. There was a good plot, nice twists, and lots of things to keep me interested in reading the book. It pulled some emotions from me that I never expected, there was quite a bit of rage for Scarlett’s past.
Rory is such an easy guy to love, he’s definitely a man you’d want on your side. I wish there was a little more of his POV, but this was a lot of Scarlett having to grow, not him. And grow, she does. The development of her is great and I absolutely loved how she turned out in the end, not that I disliked her in the beginning. She was hard to figure out, when I started reading.
I’d definitely recommend this book, along with the previous ones in the series, but I don’t think I could read this one over.
If the author writes another in the series I will be snatching it up!
Saint is book four in the Boston Underworld series.
We were introduced to Scarlett in book one as she was Macks friend. I’m so happy to read her story and I’m pleased to say it exceeded my expectations. Scarlett is damaged. She’s out for revenge on the five men who destroyed her. While searching for them she drugs and robs men. You’ll have to read to find out why. Scarlett is crazy and I love her.
Rory ‘The Saint’ Brodrick is captivated by Scarlett. He wants her for himself. He wants to protect her but Scarlett’s on a mission of her own.
I loved this story. Looking forward to reading more 🙂
It seems to be a case of you either love Scarlett or hate her – obviously I love her. I’m not sure if I feel that there are some double standards coming in to play though. Dark and violent heroes are all the rage yet somehow it’s not OK for the female to be the dark and violent one. And when you find out just exactly what made her so twisted and angry, I for one don’t blame her.
In my opinion Ashleigh writes some of the best mafia romance books that are out there in e-book land. Her characters are real, gritty, tough but lovable. Her plots are captivating, twisty, full of suspense and have you on the edge of your seat. The writing holds you, draws you in and has you flipping pages wanting to know what will happen next. Each one I read is my new favourite (although Ronan from Reaper will forever remain my favourite book boyfriend) and I can’t recommend these highly enough.
We’ve seen snippets of Scarlett and Rory in Crow and Reaper, so I already knew I liked them both. This book shows how much more complex characters they are and that really drew me into the story. I didn’t quite manage to read it in one sitting but that was only because it got so late that I really did need to put it down and get some sleep! I found it totally ‘unputdownable’.
A lot of the darkness comes from events in the past which we experience briefly in flashback. Scarlett is drawn to Rory but her tough shell and years of hate make her push him away. Circumstances, and bad intentions, bring them closer together but the more time she spends with Rory the less Scarlett wants to hurt him. This isn’t a hearts and flowers romance, it’s gritty, steamy and riddled with violence …. exactly as I’ve come to love and expect from this author.
Rory surprised me, he isn’t as much the youthful joker we’ve seen before, he has real depth and is not only a strong character but all alpha male too. Rory brings out the best in Scarlett, the good that she can’t see and doesn’t believe exists. I loved how she grows as a character, never loosing her strength but, instead, gaining depth and understanding.
Another thing I like about these books are the excellent supporting characters. I know the next book features Alexei’s brother, but I’m also hoping we will get both Conor and Ivy’s story, as well as Storm and Booker. I just know what a hot couple they will make!
Wow. Wow. Wow. This book was superb! Action packed, heart stopping, heart wrenching, steamy and full of hot Irish Men! Rory & Scarlett have such great chemistry. I love this book so much. From learning about their stories to their bantering back and forth.
This book brings out your favorite men from the Boston Underworld Series and does NOT disappoint.
I thought Ghost was as good as it could get, boy was I wrong. Scarlett is so broken and bent on vengeance I didn’t think she could be saved. We get a taste of her vengeance in this book and poetic doesn’t even come close to the justice she mets out.
Rory can’t stay away, no matter what she says or does he just loves the verbal sparring. No matter how many times she begs him for sex he refuses and says he won’t give her another reason to hate him.
The thing is she hates everybody, and isolates herself.
Lyrical Irish sayings and accents abound and brings the whole series to life. I absolutely love this series
You know that old song ‘Stand by your Man’ well in the case of Rory and Scarlett it is definitely the other way around…this Irish mobster is rock solid when it comes to standing by his woman, it’s almost too sweet. I said almost.
Scarlett is one crazy, messed up, freak show and she has tested Rory’s patience to the point of destruction. They are so wrong together it’s perfect.
I was a little disappointed in this installment of the Boston Underworld series, for two reasons; one…it felt like Rory’s story was somewhat glossed over, not that it wasn’t told, but I really felt like I needed more and two…when we got to the big finish, Scarlett, our bad a$$ revenge seeker crumbled. But of course, that’s just my opinion and should in no way deter you from reading their story.
There were definitely some twists and turns in this story, some new characters introduced which leads me to believe the author isn’t quite done with our alpha mafia family…bring it A. Zavarelli, I’m ready!
LOVE this series.
Hope she writes more with other characters in the four books in this series.
Don’t want to tell any of the story. … it’s too good to ruin it for you . An I personally hate when the story is mapped prior to reading it.
ENJOY
What do you expect from the mob? Good read, a bit twisted
