Hollywood sweetheart Joey Darling’s adventures and mishaps continue in the third book of the charming mystery series set in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. My name is Joey Darling, and I’m a disgrace to imaginary detectives everywhere. When actress Joey Darling discovers a mermaid tail with drops of fresh blood on it while hiking in a remote nature preserve, she knows something suspicious is … something suspicious is going on.
As details surface, Joey realizes she’s dealing with a problem she has encountered one too many times: someone desperate for fame who falls victim to a predator. With the help of her neighbor Zane Oakley and the opposition of local detective Jackson Sullivan, Joey hunts for answers, unaware of the deadly net in which she’s about to entangle herself.
Joey knows she’s a fish out of water when it comes to cracking cases, but can she use her talent—acting—to help find the missing woman? Or will Joey end up swimming with sharks?

Let me get this out of the way. Phew, that kiss at the end of Safety in Blunders is well worth the wait!
Joey Darling once again finds herself in the middle of a crime (a missing person case this time around) and questioning her burgeoning interest in two very different men.
Christy Barritt balances romance, suspense, pop culture, and humor (the man buns comment had me rolling). Joey is such a likable character in part because, despite her Hollywood ties, she accepts, sometimes even embraces, her flaws).
While I’m way behind on this series, I’m kind of glad I get to roll right into the next book to spend more time with this group of characters.

Joey can’t help but stumble into trouble!
I really wondered when I picked up the first Worst Detective Ever Mystery Series book if I could possibly like Joey Darling as much as Holly Anna Paladin or Gabby St. Claire. I should never have wondered, this IS a Christy Barritt series after all. I’ve now finished book three, Safety In Blunders, and I am hooked on Joey, and this series, but good!
Joey is a a fun and quirky heroine, which also pretty much describes this book and series. Her life is a mess but that doesn’t stop her from trying to help others…and risking her neck while she’s at it…much to the chagrin of those closest to her.
Christy Barritt delivered just the right mix of funny moments, a little romance, and plenty of mystery and danger, to keep me interested, intrigued, and unable to put the book down. I enjoyed trying to solve Joey’s latest mystery alongside her, and I was in for a few surprises. Definitely enjoyed Safety In Blunders and am looking forward to reading book 4 in the series!
(I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions are entirely my own.)
This is the third installment of The Worst Detective Ever Series by Christy Barritt and I am already looking forward to the fourth. Poor Joey is torn in several different directions all at once. She wants to help a missing girl but she wants to stay out of trouble, she wants to find out more about her missing dad but she doesn’t know how to put all the confusing information together, she wants to let her heart heal from her past mistakes, but she’s drawn to two completely opposite men for two completely different reasons. Even though she knows she should avoid getting involved once again in a murder mystery (and further antagonizing Detective Jackson Sullivan), Joey just can’t help trying to find what happened to the girl who was wearing the mermaid tail! Will this one be the one that stumps her? I am getting more and more interested in finding out what happened to her dad and to see which guy will win her heart, or maybe neither one? I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Great weekend reading
