MY TAKE
This is the third story I’ve read that’s set in McCormick’s Creek. We met Robin earlier in the other books. She’s still carrying a lot of bruises from some bad experiences and she has some serious trust issues. Like crippling trust issues.
Cliff has suffered a series of losses, first the death of his father and then the ranch that Cliff had called home and expected to eventually own himself. Now he’s living with his uncle working on his ranch but Cliff is kind of lost. Then he finds a stray dog and takes him to Robin who has a reputation for taking in strays. The chemistry is instant, plus they have so much in common.
Cliff’s seeming inability to send text messages about ranch problems clash with Robin’s insecurities. I kept waiting for her to step outside of her own pain and see that someone else was hurting. It’s a tough growth arc, but she finally comes around and the resolution is sweet.
Safe in his heart is a great, sweet stand-alone read. Robin cannot ignore an animal that needs help but is running out of room. Cliff is working on his uncle’s ranch, struggling with crippling grief and trying to figure out what to do next. An injured, stray dog brings them together but fear, disappointments and misunderstandings could keep them apart. Good characters with depth and issues and a good storyline combine to make this a great, easy to read, heartwarming story with a HEA. I definitely recommend it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I also purchased a copy.
This was a wonderful book. Cliff and Robin’s journey to a HEA is filled with strife and complications. Nothing seems to go right for these two wonderful people. Both of them have had painful pasts. Robin struggles as she doesn’t trust so easily anymore. She rescues dogs and Cliff suggests opening an animal shelter in town. She doesn’t speak in front of crowds due to an incident in high school. She struggles with to meet with investors and a town council meeting both ending in disasters. Nothing seems to go right for Robin. Cliff on the other hand is trying to find his own place on his aunt’s and uncle’s ranch. After his dad’s passing, and losing his family’s own ranch, he struggles with loss of his father and what could have been.
These two young people will just melt your heart. I just fell in love with them especially given the book is written in a dual POV format. Seeing inside their minds really show the goodness of both of these characters.
This is a sweet, clean romance that I highly recommend to everyone.
I really, really liked this story. It had a lot of personal growth and reflection along with figuring out your dream and then chasing it. It also had a lot of fun and humor in the book that made it a great read. I am looking forward to reading more from Jen Peters.
Robin has made an apperance in a previous book and I was glad to see she gets her own story. The H & h both have had trials that makes them hesitant. I think the author handled this well and I felt what the characters felt. Robin had some character growth and I thought the h & H had nice chemistry. I liked the setting of the story. I thought the secondary characters helped the story move along & it had good dialogue. I recommend this along with the whole McCormick creek series. I’d defintely read more if there are more books.
Safe in His Heart is an appropriate title for this third book in this series by Jen Peters. This one is about Robin Cooper and Cliff Jackson. Robin is a kindhearted person who rescues stray dogs and tries to find them a forever home.
She meets Cliff Jackson, who recently lost his father and moved from Montana to Oregon to live with his aunt and uncle on their ranch in McCormick’s Creek. Cliff enjoys ranching because it makes him feel closer to his dad.
It was very realistic that Robin and Cliff need to work on their communication skills and trusting each other. It was nice to see some of the older characters give them their advice.
I enjoyed the story with Robin collecting stray animals and trying to open an animal shelter. It was fun watching what she would do to find forever homes for the strays. I liked that Robin and Cliff seem to balance each other in their relationship I would have liked her character to evolve more and not have as many hangups over public speaking and being a klutz since the original incident happened a long time ago. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Jen Peters writes sweet and satisfying romances with a dose of persevering through troubles and just the right chemistry between characters.
In Cliff, Jen has given us a sweet and swoon-worthy cowboy that any girl would want to grab. He’s shy and his best friend is a horse. He’s torn between his budding relationship with Robin and his responsibilities to his uncle. Can he talk to her without stumbling over his words?
After being bullied and embarrassed when she was younger, trust doesn’t come easy to Robin. With her insecurities she keeps her head down and is much more comfortable with her rescue animals. Can she trust another guy after a previously embarrassing betrayal?
“Safe in His Heart” is an easy read, perfect for a relaxing evening.
Safe in His Heart has dogs – lots of them! Robin and Cliff meet over a stray dog. Loved these characters with all their quirks, issues, etc. This was a very fun, clean, sweet romance and I enjoyed every minute of it!
