This book was a page turner and so much fun to read. Sydney is a poor little rich girl who has been kicked out of the house by her parents and now hired as a nanny for the Callahans. She has never worked a day in her life and she is keeping secrets, who she really is and that she doesn’t know what she is doing. Wade Knox is a rookie player for the 49ners and all he is really concerned with is making the team. A misunderstanding and media fallout has Sydney and Wade pretending to be a couple. Pretending when there is chemistry is not hard to do.
This may be the 4th book in the series but you do not need to read the rest of the series to keep up and this can be read as a standalone.
Sydney Walker is a young woman who is recently cut off by her parents and for the first time of her life she has to take care of herself.
Wade Knox, the new and extremely handsome wide receiver of the San Francisco forty-niners.
When Sydney starts to work as the nanny for Fabel and Drew, she meets Drew’s friend and team mate Wade. There is an instant attraction between them but neither of them wants to be in a relationship.
When the paparazzi makes some compromising photos of Sydney and her boss Drew, he and his wife come up with a plan.
They want Sydney and Wade to act as if they are together for two weeks.
But are two weeks enough to distract the paps? And what if two weeks isn’t enough for Wade or Sydney?
I liked Wide, he was all hotness but also very sweet, kind and the bestest friend.
Sydney needs to learn a lot but what can you expect from a 19 year old?!
From the first moment they were super cute together, I especially loved their banter.
The sex scènes were hot and very descriptive which I like. I like it when I can form a good image of the naked male body. (I know I’m a little perv)
Sometimes the life of Fabel and Drew overshadowed the story of Wade and Sydney. There was too much unnecessary information about them and their lives. What really annoyed me was the extended epilogue who was from Fabel’s pov.
I enjoyed reading Safe Bet, it’s a quick, entertaining, relaxing story.
There isn’t much drama going on but it was an enjoyable read of the journey of two young peoples who fall in love.
Sydney was raised in an affluent lifestyle but rather than appreciating it she took it for granted until it wasn’t there anymore. With the help of her brother she is now working as a nanny for Drew and Fable and she can’t afford to jeopardize her position as not only does she need the money but her employers have become her friends as well.
Wade plays on the same team as Drew and he appreciates his friendship and the way he has helped his transition to playing professionally as this is his first year. When Drew and Fable ask him to pretend to be in a relationship with Sydney for one week to avoid media scrutiny he is more than willing to help but neither he nor Sydney expected it to feel so real.
Both Sydney and Wade were attracted to each other before their pretend relationship started but I enjoyed seeing their relationship evolve and see them support each other through the obstacles that life throws at you. I listened to an audio copy of the book and thought the narrators did a great job with all the characters.
*review for downpour audiobook*
I was immersed in this listen right from the start. Wade and Sydney aren’t looking for love or a relationship but something just clicked when they met. Wade, a newly recruited player for the NFL and mouthwateringly gorgeous man. His goal is to succeed and be able to care of his mom, his only family and number one supporter. Sydney is on the outs with her family and desperately needs a job fast, and she just happens to have an opportunity land in her lap. They both didn’t expect what would happen next, an offer they both couldn’t refuse. The heated tension between these two is smoldering. The steamy moments are everything. The narrator’s did an amazing job bringing Wade and Sydney to life. I enjoyed is so much and I just couldn’t stop listening!
loved it!!!!!!
This was light-hearted; almost felt like there was no substance to the characters. The story line progressed quickly. Pro – I hadn’t read any of the previous books in the series but I was still able to follow along easily. Con – It didn’t leave it’s mark on me; nothing stood out as memorable.
Thank you Monica Murphy! This is a great mix of two wonderful series that she has given us. I found Monica Murphy through Drew and Fable (one of my all-time favorite couples) and to get more time in their lives while experiencing Wade and Sydney’s journey was just fabulous to me. Wade has always been there supporting his best friend Owen but we didn’t really know much about him. I loved getting to know him as he moves into adulthood. Sydney is wonderful, she makes some bad choices, getting disowned by her parents which means she needs a job. The opportunity to be a nanny for Drew and Fable lands her in Wade’s orbit. When the paparazzi dub her the naughty nanny, Fable hatches a plan to have Wade and Sydney fake a relationship. But is it really fake? This is fun, flirty and sexy romance.
Pretty good book
I love romance reads. This was a good read, if you like romance I would recommend reading, “Safe bet.” You will not be able to put it down once you start.
This was an enjoyable sweet romance with no drama. I liked that it was a fun, easy and quick kind of read.
Sydney and Wade Knox’s story was my first book in The Rules series. I’ve just read books from this author’s Friends series so far and they are the exact opposite of this book because there’s LOADS of teenage drama there. I definitely plan on catching up on the other books in this series and might also go into other series of hers because I quite liked this story of Sydney and Wade and since Fable and Drew played a big part in this book too, I’m really intrigued to read their story as well. So be prepared to get hooked by the characters of this series.
The Story:
Sydney got kicked out of her parents’ house and can’t believe her luck when she lands the job as a nanny for the Callahan’s family, although she’s just gotten the interview because of a friend’s friend of her brother.
After an encounter with some paparazzi, stories of an affair between Sidney and her boss Drew Callahan adorn the covers of lots of magazines with the caption of the Naughty Nanny.
When her bosses come up with the crazy idea that Sidney and Wade should fake a relationship to stop the ongoing rumors, Sidney has a hard time wrapping her head around the fact that she has to make the media believe that she’s in a relationship with the hot football newbie on the offensive line for the San Francisco 49ers, Wade Knox.
After both got over the first shock of their part in this pretend, they can’t help but feel attracted to each other. Or are they such good actors that it just feels like it’s real? And most important of all, are they convincing enough to be able to manipulate the media?
Thoughts:
As I already mentioned above, I really enjoyed this lighthearted sweet romance. Although I have to say that I wasn’t much a fan of the instant-lust between Wade and Sydney. I believe that the story would have been more fun if they hadn’t liked each other that much from the very beginning. It would have spiced it up a bit because in stories like this where we know already that H and h will eventually end up together, there has to be something else in between that makes the story unique and stand out from other similar books.
I contemplated to give the story 3.5 Stars but since it was such a quick read I thought that I shouldn’t be so strict.
I absolutely liked how the characters had their magical moments when they didn’t think about their fake relationship. They were so cute sometimes and really had me laughing a few times.
Both characters were really sweet. What bothered me though was that I never had the feeling that Sydney came from a rich family and that she was spoiled because she never acted that way. She had no bitchy attitude or anything. This made her background kind of unbelieving because she might as well have come from a ‘normal’ family.
I absolutely love Monica Murphy books. Safe bet is a wonder addition to the Safe Bet series. It is a must read.
