This was a great conclusion to the Magelands epic. The title “Sacrifice” really says it all. We follow around the central characters who are working on coming together, even if they don’t realize it.
Keira is dealing with the fallout and tries to push away anyone who wants to get close, mostly because she doesn’t want to endanger anyone.
The Holdings is in revolution trying to overturn the Empire and the Hold Fasts are the leaders in that. We get to see Kylon reunite with Killop and swear protection to Karalyn.
Meanwhile Ladoc and Agang leave on a quest to locate Shella to fulfill a part of the prophecy. They try an talk Keira into coming but she refuses.
The Emperor is leaving total destruction everywhere he goes.
I actually spent a great part of this book thinking we were missing a mage. I’d forgotten that Ladoc had small mage powers but once I was reminded I realized it was mentioned in past books.
Not wanting to give away any of the story and how things play out I will say I got really invested in this story. The conclusion was an emotional and satisfying journey. I look forward to reading more from this author.

ONE WILD ADVENTURE!!!
Crap on toast! ONE non-stop, action packed, heart pounding, nailbiting, page flipping adventure that hooks you from the start and reels you in for the duration. One spinning vortex with all the trials and tribulations that propels those swirling emotions bursting into play front and center. Perilous drama, adversity, intrigue, nerve racking danger and electrifying suspense take you on one thrilling adventure. Christopher totally nailed this bad boy 100% on point with one dynamic storyline and gripping plot bring this bad boy catapulting to life beautifully. Sparks fly as confusion, mayhem and chaos ensues in epic proportions. They’re all trying to survive and live through this gruesome ride thats a hard track to follow. The characters are original, tangible and authentic with just enough flaws to make it more interesting. Their personalities are unique with qualities and traits that balances out perfectly. The scenes are so detailed and descriptive it gives the illusion you’re right there in the middle of ground zero with them. Remarkable job Christopher, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
Ok, it’s the middle of the night and, while I may regrets the loss of sleep tomorrow, there’s no way I will regret the binge read that I just did oh the third and fourth books of Christopher Mitchell’s The Magelands Epic, Needs of the Empire and Sacrifice. No surprise since I enjoyed books 1 and 2 do much, but still, I wasn’t actually intending to binge. I just couldn’t stop. This is addictive stuff and totally fun to dive into. If you’ve not read the first two books I strongly recommend doing so first. Then be prepared to be absorbed by these volumes. Read the publisher’s blurbs to find out what these stories are about. Each is totally a well-written blast. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.
This is a fantastic read. Also a fantastic addition to the series. This read grabs you and keeps you inthralled through the whole read. There is never a dull moment in this read. It had me on the edge of my seat. And is a real page turner. The Author has hit a home run on this series. If you love fantasy and fast paced action. With epic scenes this is definitely the read for you.

Wow! What a heart stopping end to a great series! I didn’t want to put it down. It was nonstop action. The Emperor/creator gets crazier as the book goes on wanting to kill everyone. He just might succeed too! Killop and Daphne are just trying to take care of their daughter and each other but fate has other plans for them. I highly recommend this book! I received an ARC copy of this book.
The creator of the Magelands(wearing the Emperor) is loose, rampaging through the lands killing thousands and gathering mages.
Keira, having faced the Emperor and died is reluctant to rejoin the fight, but with her friends eager to fight, she finds herself faced with a tough choice.
The prophecy told by Kalayne specified that Keira and Shella will meet, but with the two in no hurry to see each other, it falls to the cunning hands of their friends to try and ensure Kalayne’s prophecy comes to pass if they hope to find a way to defeat the creator who has all the mage powers of the Magelands.
This book was simply fantastic. An exciting conclusion to the Magelands epic with enough twists to keep me on edge.
A definite read to all lovers of the fantasy genre.
This series has been great!! I find it hard to put down and have been hooked from the beginning. The author wrote a great story and characters. Christopher Mitchell is one of my favorite authors and is a wonderful writer. I highly recommend this series. (I received this book as an arc and am leaving a voluntary honest review)
I really enjoyed this book, especially the message of hope throughout the war. It cuts a little close to home with the depiction of what humanity is doing to itself, however it provides a working unity that allows us to hope the world peace can be possible. I definitely recommend it to fantasy fans.

What if the “Creator” becomes insane?
SETTING: Why do bad things happen to good people? Why does the Creator permit suffering? Will good ever triumph over evil? This series takes a fresh approach to answering these questions: What if the Creator becomes insane? What might then happen?
The 5 “clans” of people populating the world, with their strengths and weaknesses, reflect the various cultures and their attempts at either domination, reconciliation, or withdrawal into their own private society. Wars begin, as they are wont to do, with one group striving for the resources of another (greed) and desire to dominate those they consider inferior. Unfortunately, their selfishness comes to the attention of the “Creator” who decides: Enough! I will have done with all of you! This pursuit of destruction of his creation leads to insanity on his part and the desire for his own death. How much of the world will he destroy? Will anyone be able to stop him and the madness of mankind in their selfish pursuits?
CRITIQUE: Heartbreaking overview of what mankind is doing to itself, in the form of a fantasy. Despite the war and the evil Creator, the thread of hope becomes a strong tapestry that tells a story of how unity CAN be formed and how evil CAN be vanquished. No, not all the good people survive, but enough do to put into action a plan for world peace to be established. Overly optimistic? Perhaps, but also hope inspiring that we CAN overcome prejudices, enmities, racial differences and work together to face the perils that face humankind today, that threaten our very existence.
Although an epic fantasy, this is one for thinking adults.
I was given a free copy of an early manuscript. The analysis is my own. I have no financial ties to either the publisher or the author.
