Gavin Mitchel has resigned himself to a lonely and unfulfilling love life. His first meeting with Ryker Hudson is as steamy as it is random, which is precisely the way Ryker likes it. Their second meeting, while equally random, is beyond awkward.Although a fourteen-year age difference stands in their way, a much larger obstacle also blocks their path. Together, Ryker and Gavin must find the … the strength to overcome the roadblocks or bid farewell to their happily ever after.
Ryker & Gavin is a May/December, forbidden love romance.

I am utterly besotted with this series. I enjoy the way A.D. Ellis gives us characters that are flawed and real. This story is no different.
Ryker came out to his mom at 18 y.o. and was rejected for his troubles. For the next five years he built a life forged behind walls to lock out the hurt of prenatal absence and fear of romantic entanglements. One chance encounter with Gavin has him questioning how he can break his rule of “no repeats” after a one night stand. Eerily drawn to this stranger he determines it is a fluke and moves on with his life. A brief time later, his mother re-enters his life and brings with her Gavin (her gay best friend). Confused (by his attraction to Gavin and his mother’s change of heart toward gay people) he lashes out at them both. Despite his efforts to the contrary, he is hopelessly drawn to Gavin.
Gavin is social awkward and new to town, he befriends Annabeth and tried to help her reconcile with her estranged son. In the process they, despite their age difference, become best friends. A night spent with a strange who he secretly wants to see more of us just a tiny destruction. During the initial meeting of mother and son, Gavin is there to offer support. What he doesn’t expect is that the angry son is also the mesmerizing stranger from the other night.
What a holy mess!! Gavin is hurt, angry, and torn. One part of him wants his mother back, but the other half is wondering how she could reject him (her son) and be so accepting of then man. How was his sexual orientation unpalatable, but this man’s sexual orientation is a non issue? Gavin is struggling with another dilemma, what should he do with these intrusive thought of the beautiful young man who is is very much off limits? Not only is Ryker the son of Gavin’s best friend, he is also 14 years younger! Is Ryker to young for Gavin? Will he lose his best friend if he pursues what could be the love of his life? How could the universe be so unkind?
Watching these two battle their insecurities, fears, anger, and hurt to find their happily ever after was a delight.
As a person who was given a “no option” option by a parent following coming out, I could relate to this story. Luckily my prenatal rejection came as I was an established adult. I couldn’t imagine that level of rejection at 18.
This is another great addition to the series.

Another great addition to the Something About Him series! Ellis always manages to write likeable, relatable characters that you just want to read more about. Couldn’t stop reading this book!

This is the 5th book in the Something About Him series. This book can be read as a stand alone but I think you would enjoy it more if you read all the books in the series. This is the story of Gavin and Ryker. Gavin is in his late 30’s and a bit socially awkward. He doesn’t hide that he is gay but he doesn’t advertise it either. He thinks that he will never have anyone of his own to love. His social life consists of doing things with his best friend Annabeth. Ryker is a 23 year old who works at a store but has a passion for theatre. They meet through a hook up app and both men feel a spark. Problems arise when Ryker’s Mom wants to try and rebuild a relationship with her son. She threw him out of the house when he was 18 because he was gay. When Ryker agrees to meet with her after 5 years of being abandoned, he get a shock. He meets up with his mom and the hook up that he met the night before. Turns out that Ryker’s mom and Gavin’s best friend Annabeth are the same person. Let the complications begin. Both Gavin and Ryker are afraid of losing what little they have to try for something more. You can use all the logic in the world but the heart wants what the heart wants. This is their story. There are a lot of ups and downs on the road to their happy ever after. This book is well written and easy to read.

Finding Connection . . .
Ryker Hudson had a difficult time when he announced his being gay to his mother. Her reaction caused him to only invest in one-night-stands and not expect anything further. But it was a lonely existence.
One of Ryker’s hookups is Gavin Mitchel, and he actually felt something more. Finding out Gavin was friends with his mother would make pursuing a relationship perhaps awkward. Will the two of them be willing to take a chance on a relationship they both seem to want? Despite a 14-year age difference, are the strong feelings of connection for the other strong enough to take that risk? Or will the past and the situation now put too much pressure on them to try?
As an eighteen year old gay guy Ryder was shunned by his mother after coming out to her.
Five years later he has two stable jobs and a best friend roommate Asher and enough hookups to keep him happy or so he thought until his last hookup with an older sexy man….
Ryder does not do repeats but there is something different with this man……
Everything is as he wants his life to be until his mother reaches out to him and he meets her best gay friend Gavin who basically took his place in her heart or so he thought…..
Gavin looks like the older man who he met on Grindr and it turns out it is the same man!
Will Ryder ever forgive his mother?
Why is he so drawn to her best friend Gavin?
Will he ever find what he is looking for?
A sweet low angst age gap enemies to lovers story that will keep you smiling till the end!

Another great addition to the series! The author once again brings strong characters in Gavin and Ryker and takes them on an emotional journey toward their HEA. The scenes are painted perfectly and the story moves fluidly. They have many obstacles to overcome along the way. Their chemistry is hot and the sexual scenes are hotter. I loved reading their story.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
At 18 Ryker was told to leave by his mother because she couldn’t accept having a gay son. Went to a coffee shop near the motel and Asher started talking to him, Asher needed a roommate and helped get a job at the theater as a dancer. Asher claimed it was fate that took him the coffee shop at that time. Ryker met Gavin on the Grindr app but didn’t know his name so when he finally talked to his mother after 5 years Gavin was there for his mother. For awhile Ryker felt rejected by both Gavin and his mother. But you can’t fight fate as Asher says. Great book loved the ending!
I loved this book. Boy was it an emotional read. My heart broke for Ryker when his mom kicked him out of the house when he was eighteen when he came out as gay. I can’t imagine having to go through that at any age let alone as a teenager. I loved his meeting with Asher and that it really did feel like fate. Asher is just awesome! I wish I saw a little more of him (although he did have a good number of scenes). I loved all the friends in this book. John and Caleb’s coming together made me really happy and I would love to read their story from their point of view. Gavin and Ryker make a good couple. An awkward first meeting, but the spark was there. And an even more awkward second meeting that neither expected. There were a lot of emotions and risks to unravel and take between Ryker, Gavin, and Annabeth- whose sincere efforts I was impressed with and appreciative of. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more in this series. 5 stars.
This was a first in this series for me to read. I enjoyed this storyline it was interesting and has a great foundation. The characters Gavin and Ryker have some interesting times but in the end everything is as it should be. Great Read.
Once again another great book by A.D. Ellis… it is a great story of how so many things that are over came to make a relationship work. It was great to see so many of the couples and families from previous books. The relationships that were shown throughout the book was great and sawed so many dynamics. Can’t wait for the next book.
This is a re-release with a different cover, sone work done in the original release. I found I struggled a bit with this, 5th book in the Something about him series. For some reason or another I found it hard to relate to the characters, for me they felt ‘flat’ and also I found mom to self centred and annoying. I hope I can enjoy other books in the series more, as I have done before.
This is an age gap mm romance. Ryker had an one time thing with Gavin, who turns out to be his estranged mother’s bff. His mother kicked him out at 18 when he came out, he struggles when his mom wants to reconnect. Both men get involved and for different reasons they do not tell mom/bff. They find their hfn/ hea.
I give the book a 4-.
