When Navy pilot Ryder Westbrook is shot down, his only thought is making it home – to the place he left behind a long time ago. But dreaming about the small town of Eagle’s Ridge and going back are two very different things, and upon arrival Ryder finds himself in the middle of another battlefield – an old family feud between the Westbrooks and the Tuckers. To complicate matters, he needs … disputed land to start his second career at the local airfield. He decides to enlist the help of beautiful Bailey Tucker, but the chef soon has his senses spinning in another direction…
The last person Bailey is interested in helping is golden boy Ryder Westbrook. After a painful personal betrayal, irresistible attraction to another man, who is probably too good to be true, seems like a terrible idea. But she also needs something from the Westbrooks, a chance to start over and build the restaurant of her dreams.
Ryder and Bailey make a simple plan – work together to get what they both want, but what happens when they find out what they really want is each other?

This was a great start to a multi author series. The world building in this book sets the stage for the books that follow. It was a quick, heart warming read.
I really enjoyed this first book in the 7 Brides for 7 Soldiers series. The storyline of forbidden love due to an old family feud is great. The characters of Ryder Westbrook and Bailey Turner are endearing and their love story is really sweet. I’ve never read Barbara Freethy’s books, but will definitely consider more in the future. She has a nice writing style and is a good storyteller. I also appreciated the pace of the book and no over the top drama. Nice start to this series!
The first book of this series is a great start to get to know all the wonderful characters and history of Eagles´s Ridge. In this story we get to know about the historical side of this town and also to follow the end of and old feud between two of the founders´s family. Hard to put it down. Wonderful characters and story!
Ryder (7 Brides for 7 Soldiers, #1) by Barbara Freethy Thi’t wais is the first book in the series and I can’t to read them all… Ryder and Bailey…just perfect together…even with a family feud.
How to end a family feud
Have the grandchildren come back from two bad things happen to them. Ryder crashed his hilo o on a rescue mission, with a few injuries, but realized he need to come home to Eagle Ridge. Bailey got thrown under the bus by her boss/boyfriend when his signature dish got people sent to the hospital with food poisoning. But something clicked with them. Can’t wait to read more in the series.
Totally entertaining!! Where else can you find characters that are running from their pasts, needing to make life altering changes, and oh yes, by the way, a family feud while you are finding your soulmate. Ryder Westbrook and Bailey Tucker have mountains to climb where falling in love is the easy part.
Ryder was home trying to straighten out his family and settle a 70 year fued with Another founding family. Bailey ‘s life had fallen apart when her lover had blamed
her for the opening night fiasco. She was home trying to figure out what to do next. While babysitting her brother’s dog she ran into Ryder. Now there was another reason to settle the fued.
In my opinion this book is predictable, yet it’s fun. I was entertained and enjoyed the book. My attention was grabbed in the prologue, the suspense was there. I wanted the suspense throughout the story. There was some tension, this came from a couple of areas. The tension that was created from the grandfathers and the feud, you just knew where it was going. The tension from the weather was another problem, I knew how that was going to go also. On both accounts I was okay with knowing how things were going. I liked Bailey and how she handled her self, the fact she took the high road. I liked Ryder and the fact he was trying stop the feud, how he wanted to improve things for the town and trying to improve things in his family. In my opinion this is a good start to 7 Brides for 7 Soldiers.
Barbara Freeley is a great writer keeps you reading late into the night
very good
I was a big fan of Barbara Freethy until this novel. I didn’t even finish it.
A beautiful example of Freethy at her best! Love her work!
This is a series of seven books written by seven authors. I have the pleasure of reading the first book. I enjoyed this light story very much. It is an easy entertaining read. One item I always enjoy in a book is when the characters actually talk to each other, instead of assuming an answer, then twisting the story up with silly drama. This story is straightforward and the two main characters actually talk out their problems. Good read worth the time spent.
If love is a battlefield, what is a family feud? Ryder lays the groundwork for what looks to be a smokin’ series. Barbara Freethy puts her best foot forward with a little star crossed love, deep introspection and the feud of the century as a backdrop. Ryder has seen his share of combat overseas but when the battle lines are right outside his front door, it’s time for an intervention. Bailey is his only hope and his greatest temptation, will he survive a sneak attack on his heart? Family and fireworks are a Freethy specialty and she delivers both with a bang.
Eagle’s Ridge has welcomed home two of its own in very different circumstances. Bailey Tucker has come home to hide & lick her wounds. She was a chef in New York City until someone she trusted betrayed her. Her dream is to run her own restaurant. Eagle’s Ridge has a perfect spot but it’s owned by the Westbrook’s. Will she stay in Eagle’s Ridge or will she head back to a big city?
Ryder Westbrook has come home after serving in the Navy as a helicopter pilot for 10 years. After an accident, he has reassessed his priorities & wants a better relationship with his family. He’s taken over the town airport but wants to lengthen a runway to get more traffic. The land he needs is owned by the Tucker’s. Can he convince them to sell it? Both Bailey & Ryder want something from each other’s family. Can they make their grandfathers see common sense & end this 65 year feud?
Barbara Freethy has started this series off with a bang. The characters are well developed & likable. The interactions between Ryder, Bailey & their grandfathers add dimension to the family dynamics & added emotion to the feud. Her descriptions of the scenes & people allow the reader to create pictures in their mind as they are reading. The emotion evident in her writing has always allowed me to sink into the story & absorb all that is going on. I can’t wait to see what the other writers come up with!
