This is the sixth book in the Off The Grid:FBI series. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this series by Barbara Freethy is phenomenal. Wow! It just keeps getting better. It is so very well written. Full of mystery, intrigue, suspense, a plot loaded with twists and this time a romance between FBI agent Flynn MacKenzie and Callie Harper. Callie’s mother’s new husband, judge Arthur Corbyn, falls to his death at a museum event before he gets to talk with Flynn. Again I was so caught up in reading this book, that I couldn’t wait to finish it. Well done Barabara! You definitely know how to weave a tale of mystery and suspense, along with some wonderful romance. Now I’m curious and looking forward to reading Savannah’s story in Critical Doubt.
Wow! Barbara Freethy has once again delivered an incredible romantic thriller with Ruthless Cross. Each book in Barbara Freethy’s Off the Grid: FBI series gets better and better. I absolutely loved Ruthless Cross, the sixth book in her Off the Grid: FBI series. Ruthless Cross had me guessing throughout the story as to who was behind the murder of Arthur Corbyn and the other thrilling events. I could not put it down. I loved every page. I really enjoy how the book is told from the perspective of the main characters. I love getting the insight and feelings from the different characters. Barbara Freethy has once again proven that she is a master storyteller. Ruthless Cross is the story of Flynn MacKenzie, an undercover FBI agent and Callie Harper, a chef and step-daughter of Judge Arthur Corbyn. Flynn and Callie meet at an art exhibition at an art museum. Arthur invited Flynn to the exhibition, because he needs his help. Arthur has been a father figure to Flynn, since the death of Arthur’s daughter, Olivia, who was Flynn’s girlfriend. As the exhibition begins, Arthur’s body falls from an upper floor. Flynn decides to get to the bottom of Arthur’s murder and the reason why Arthur wanted him to attend the exhibition. Callie wants to help Flynn with his investigation, especially since her mother Julliette, is Flynn’s prime suspect. Flynn cannot interview Juliette, because Callie had her admitted on a seventy-two-hour psych hold. After multiple attempts on their lives, the relationship between Flynn and Callie changes. Neither is sure if their relationship is just fueled by the adrenaline from the chase. I loved the relationship between Flynn and Callie. Flynn reaches out to his team for help. Eventually all clues lead them to Arthur’s secret life and the reason behind his murder. I really enjoy the poignant and bittersweet moments, the plot twists and the surprises that I have come to love and expect in Barbara Freethy’s books and Ruthless Cross did not disappoint. One of my favorite parts of the story are the poignant moments that Callie has during conversations with her Mom. I loved all the secrets that Flynn and Callie shared with one another. I love that all the characters from the previous books were included in Ruthless Cross. It felt like a family reunion and I loved catching up with the other characters from the series. I love how she resolved the Arthur’s murder; I did not see that happening. I love how all Barbara Freethy’s epilogues, wrap up the ending of the story and are always my favorite part of her books. I love how all the loose ends got tied up. I love all the characters and the way Barbara describes the locations in and around Los Angeles. It was really an incredible story and I loved every page,
Barbara Freethy never disappoints!!

Suspense, drama, romance, this story has it all! This story between FBI agent, Flynn MacKenzie, and Callie Harper, will have you sitting on the edge of your seat! When Arthur, a federal court judge, is murdered his step daughter, Callie, teams up with Arthur’s friend Flynn to try to clear her mother as a suspect for the murder. While Flynn isn’t convinced that Callie’s mom didn’t do it, he isn’t convinced she did either. There are a lot of people on the suspect list, and Callie wants to help Flynn narrow the list down. But in the process of trying to find the killer, they end up not only fighting to stay alive, but fighting their undeniable attraction for each other.
This story had so many twists and turns. It kept me guessing the whole way through as to who the murderer really was! I loved it!!! You can’t go wrong with any Barbara Freethy book but this series is an absolute favorite! You don’t have to read this book in order in the series, it can be read as a standalone. However, I would highly recommend reading them all because you’ll love them!
I absolutely loved this book. I have been hooked on this series since book one. And this doesn’t disappoint. Even though its book 6 it can be read as a standalone. Flynn and Callie have a unique relationship. Both had sad and unhappy childhood and it brought a lot of challenges to this relationship. I was rooting for them throughout the story to make it. I cant wait for next in series and highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a great read.
Ms. Freethy does such an incredible job with the development of her characters and storylines. Although this is the 6th book in the FBI series it can be read as a standalone. Flynn is an FBI agent with an interesting past. He and his mother were left alone by his father who was involved in the art world. He had a gallery but we learn that he was also an art theft. Flynn joins the FBI because of his knowledge of the art world but to also try to find his father who’s disappeared. He finds he enjoys the work and is good at it. He had the good fortune to have a girlfriend who’s father was like a father to him, which was especially important when the girl passed away. He’s not heard from the man in several years but when he calls and asks to meet because he needs Flynn’s help, of course Flynn goes. The night doesn’t go as plan but he’s intrigued by a beautiful woman who happens to be his friend’s stepdaughter, Callie. Callie has also had much tragedy in her life, the lost of her father and then her mother’s mental health problems which has made her more of the mom in the relationship. When the two work together to find a killer, they are drawn to each other but neither is looking for a relationship nor wants to put themselves out there to be hurt again. The attraction is strong and they learn to lean on each other and slowly trust the other. There are many twists and unexpected turns as they work to figure out the missing pieces to the puzzle. You won’t want to put this book down! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my review.

This latest addition to the FBI series is exciting and enthralling and I just could not put it down! Well written it’s filled with action, suspense, murder, mystery, grief, heartbreak and romance and of course the team is right in the thick of it all! I love Flynn and Callie and got totally lost in their story as I followed them as they unravelled this thriller / mystery . I have loved all of these books and would totally recommend them.
Ruthless Cross is a great story filled with intrigue and suspense. It was well-paced with several twists I didn’t see coming. I enjoyed the characters, especially the relationship between Callie and her mom as well as between Callie and Flynn. I always like having the involvement of previous and future characters from the series included in the storyline. Another great adventure that was highly entertaining! I definitely recommend this book and look forward to Savannah’s story!
I was pleasantly surprised to see another book in the FBI Off the Grid series by Barbara Freethy. I’ve been following this series since book 1 and have loved them all. When the books for the Quantico team was completed, I thought that was it. I am so happy there was a competing team at Quantico and they’re all wrapped up in this overarching new team!
Flynn was betrayed by his father as a teen. Left with his mother to fend for themselves, Flynn’s father took off after an art heist gone wrong. Flynn grew up fast.
Callie has been her mother’s protector since she was a child and her father died. Mental illness and depression keep her mother from being able to cope with life. Callie grew up fast.
Now Flynn and Callie are working to find out who killed the Federal Court Judge who was Flynn’s mentor and Callie’s stepfather. People known to this couple are not who or what they seem. Many twists and turns culminating in an ethical challenge for Flynn. Will he make the correct decision and bring down an art theft ring, or the right decision and pursue the possibility of love? Can he do both? Can Callie live with either of those decisions?
A fabulous addition to the Off the Grid series. Can’t wait for the next one.
Another amazing book in The Off The Grid series!I
Filled with twists, turns and a bit of romance, Ruthless Cross doesn’t disappoint. Callie and Flynn solve several murderous mysteries while trying to stay one step ahead of a serial killer trying to take them out.
Packed with loads of action you’ll not want to put this book down!
So many secrets come out during Flynn’s investigation into the murder of the judge. Relationships are started, changed and ended. The author did a great job of taking me along with Flynn and Callie to gather the clues and figure out the mystery and solve the crime.
Barbara Freethy has once again provided readers with depth of story and strength of character in Ruthless Cross, book 6 of the FBI Off the Grid series. We are immediately drawn to Flynn MacKenzie, a rather private man and FBI Team Lead who has been invited to an art gallery showing by a federal judge who is also a personal friend and role model for Flynn. The judge introduces Flynn to his new wife and stepdaughter, Callie. Flynn is immediately drawn to Callie and crosses paths with her as he investigates the judges activities. This is a 5 star story of betrayal, intrigue and romance as we have come to expect from author Barbara Freethy.
