“Impressive.”THE WASHINGTON POST BOOK WORLDSpanning 1800 years of Russia’s history, people, poltics, and culture, Edward Rurtherford, author of the phenomenally successful SARUM: THE NOVEL OF ENGLAND, tells a grand saga that is as multifaceted as Russia itself. Here is a story of a great civilization made human, played out through the lives of four families who are divided by ethnicity but united … but united in shaping the destiny of their land.
“Rutherford’s RUSSKA succeeds….[He] can take his place among an elite cadre of chroniclers such as Harold Lamb, Maurice Hindus and Henri Troyat.”

A very long book but fascinating and informative.
was so glad read this before our family took our river cruise from Moscow to St. Petersburg
Very well written making it interesting even for those who are not history buffs. I learned a lot.
Excellent read
A pretty long read but an entertaining way to learn the History of this part of the world.
This author is the best way for me to grasp history, it is not just dates and facts that make a country what it is today
