The first standalone novel in the Men of Rapture series.A toke, a snort, the swivel of a glass bowl. A blonde, a redhead, a brunette. They’re all the same.A distraction.Playthings designed to keep me from drowning in despair.Rapture is my stomping grounds. The place where all my depravity originates. It isn’t that I want to live this way. It’s that my normal life disappeared years ago. I’m a … that my normal life disappeared years ago. I’m a hollow man, trying my best to fight off the nothingness that threatens me every waking hour.
But one night, it all catches up to me.
I barge into her life like a criminal on the run, pleading for her to tend my wounds. The pretty vet across the back alley from Rapture is everything I’m not.
Smart. Talented. Driven.
Good.
She’s out of my league, yet I don’t want to let her go.
Friendship it is.
Or is it?

As Rush states himself, this story “isn’t easy or fun or painless” but what a ride it is. The story starts out where as a reader I did not like Rush. He was rude and mean, grumpy and almost heartless; and just unlikeable. The journey he was on in this story and how this love for Alyssa helped him become a better man, really made the root for him and them.
This story has a little bit of everything, passion, humor, heat, darkness, angst, and emotions. I was a great ride and I will be looking for more stories in this world.
The push and pull in the story was dynamic and I loved that this was not an insta love story. They have an immediate attraction but it takes time to understand and develop their relationship. The action was great and the way the story was presented was both believable and a great addition. I received and ARC and am leaving an honest review.
This story is about an unlikely friendship, Rush has a history that has left him emotionally scared and distant doing whatever he can to try to feel something for a short time. Alyssa on the other hand is a vet and has a practice that caters to the unfortunate people who can’t always afford vet care for their pets. When they meet there is a connection and they start to form a friendship that turns into more. They do have chemistry and the steamy scenes are well written. It’s an interesting story and well worth the read.

Rush uses women, booze and drugs, not necessarily in that order. After a hookup gone bad, he breaks into Alyssa’s vet clinic in search of medical supplies. She finds him on the floor, and fixes him up. As she continues to look out for him while he heals, they forge a friendship. When her “relationship” with Justin goes south, she makes a move on Rush and he spurns her. From here on, they’re on a slow burn. Until he ghosts her. I love this book, and am so looking forward to more in the series. The characters were well developed, and ended up being so perfect for each other. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put this down.

This is a well written book with great character development. The author does a great job bringing out the emotions and pulling you in with the evolving relationship between Rush and Alyssa. She gives them a hot chemistry and builds the sexual tension quickly and weaves vividly detailed sexual scenes. She does a great job describing her characters and moves the story quickly and smoothly. I enjoyed reading their story.

It’s not often that I go back and reread a book I rated less than 3 stars initially, but after being offered the opportunity to read book 2 in the Men of Rapture series, I felt the need to reacquaint myself with the characters and decide whether my initial mixed feelings about this book were justified.
I hoped to understand Rush and his choices, and totally understood where the author was going with his penchant for using drugs, alcohol and sex to numb his pain; unfortunately, while I’m no prude, and love a whole lotta sex in my stories, Rush’s explicit sex life (quite often in public places) and crude dialogue, made him very difficult to like. But here is where my feelings changed from my first reading of this story, as taking time to really immerse myself in the gritty, self-flagellating lifestyle that Rush felt was his due, forced me to acknowledge the depth of his emotional torture and self-loathing because of events that were essentially out of his control.
Thankfully, one sassy, take no prisoners, get over yourself veterinarian named Alyssa, sees beneath Rush’s sordid and obnoxious persona, to the man who is suffering a wealth of pain, and hell bent on his own destruction. This is definitely not a light-hearted read, and the first few chapters will certainly test your moral endurance; but if you can push past the sleazy and abhorrent behaviour that Rush displays early on, there’s an insightful plot to be found and a well-written and thought provoking storyline within the pages of this book. I’m glad I took the time to revisit Rush, witness his transformation and discover the essence of the person he was meant to be.
Rush is out for anything to give him the ability to forget his past. He uses women, drugs, booze to do it. Alyssa is a veterinarian out of school the past six months. She meets Rush when he shows up on the doorstep of her workplace one morning. He’s bloody and unconscious. The story really starts picking up quick and the sex is sizzling between the characters. Rush is redeemable and I liked him. Alyssa is woman enough to handle Rush’s antics. A good read I enjoyed to the last page.

This story is amazing.
Rushland “Rush” Kaplan – A man that feels so broken after a tragedy that he uses drugs and sex to numb his pain.
Alyssa Cole – A Veterinarian working with low-income pet owners with her own hang ups.
After Rush gets beaten and breaks into her clinic, she patches him up. They form an odd friendship. Can Rush find a way to deal with his guilt and anger or will he lose the best thing he’s ever had?
This story contains sex, substance abuse, depression and a suicide. It’s very emotional and gritty. The characters are very well developed and the flow keeps you engaged.

Sometimes on the darkest path of our lives we find the brightest light to help pull us through. To me that’s what happened with Rush and Alyssa. It was hard and sweet, and spicy and just everything you could want in a fully captivating story! Can’t wait for more from Faye!
Rush is a man with a past who uses drugs, sex, and alcohol to escape it all. After a fight in the alley, he breaks into Alyssa’s vet clinic for supplies to fix himself up. What he doesn’t count on is being caught. As their friendship develops, Rush must make the decision to either continue on his downward spiral or finally be done with rock bottom and start his climb back to the top.
This is my first book by this author, and I loved it. The plot and characters are well developed and believable. We all have been to a low point in our lives and found a reason or person to push through it and get back to the mountaintop. I also liked that Rush could have leaned on his friends, family, and Alyssa to battle his demons, but choose to do it on his own. He held himself accountable for his own success or failure. Great book. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
