Moving horses to the high country comes just in time when Mindy and her coffee date witness murder at a Mojave Desert cafe. USA Today Bestselling Author Suzanne Jenkins writes a stirring, clean romance about how passion for the wild horses of the west can lead to murder and heartbreak, and finally love.

The romantic love on men and women. The love of family and that of a long lifetime of friendship and shared experiences. The love of seeing wild horses run free and unfettered by human intervention in the southwest. The plot captivated me from the first to last chapter. I found the story both poignant and moving. The storyline informs the reader about the problems that effect the wild horses that roam the United States on government owned public lands. It exposes the ongoing troubles between private ranchers and the State of California. Through clever plotting it highlights and explains the ongoing issues of wild horse management by the government’s BLM (Bureau of Land Management) in California and other similar southwestern states. These states have granted private ranchers’ government land granted to use as grazing for their livestock. This tale gives an in-depth look as to why ranchers want to permanently remove all wild horses from public lands. It shows the truth. That the removal of wild horses is mainly for the ranchers convenience and monetary gain. I’ll be honest. This book had me crying in several chapters throughout the story for the speculative cost of life events in the lives of the human characters and horses. I definitely enjoyed the story and it does have a happy ever after ending. If you enjoy a story that makes you think real thoughts and feel empathic emotions than this story is for you. Just don’t forget to have a box of tissues nearby when you read it.
Running with Horses by Suzanne Jenkins is a story about saving wild horses, cowboys, working for a cause, falling in love and finding out about the past. Wild horses are being captured and sold overseas to be slaughtered for food. Government agencies are trying to protect the horses and find the guilty ranchers who are dealing horses for profit. Mindy and her friend, Antonia, witness a murder in the diner. Was it cold-blooded or was it self-defense?
Several twists and turns finds that Antonia is in love with the suspect and his friend, Randy soon falls in love with Mindy. This story has tension, romance and a back story that will keep you interested. I enjoyed the story and the characters. I recommend this sweet, clean story.

Finding out the
Truth. This is a beautiful story of finding love, rescuing wild horses, friends and family. I enjoyed this book very much.
This book has everything love – murder- romance – wedding. All told by an excellent weaver of stories
So many matters at she has to deal with before she can help help her grandfather move a large herd of horses. Can she get it all done?
***** Suspenseful Motivations
Before I start any Suzanne Jenkins book, I know her characters will be multi-layered and authentic; her plots, page-turners. I was certainly not disappointed with Running With Horses. Set against a backdrop of the world of wild horses and those people who make sure they stay that way, versus the greedy opportunists who sell them purely for profit and not caring when they are slaughtered for human consumption, this book quickly turns into a fascinating look at the motivations of everyone involved.
It is also very suspenseful. Early on, when Mindy is in a local cafe with her childhood friend, Antonia, and Randy, the new hot guy with whom she clicks, bam! there is a shooting, a dead body, and someone who mysteriously runs away. Wow. Those pages keep turning at a faster pace so we can find out who did the killing. But it’s far more than that. We find out what the complicated motivation for the deed is.
Detailed horse rides into the dense countryside coated in memories of her childhood with her new love interest and her dear grandfather not only helps to solve the murder, it brings out family secrets and motivations Mindy had never been told. Excellent! Highly recommended.

This is the first book by this author that I have read. I didn’t know what to expect, and was pleasantly surprised by the character development, situational information (real BLM policy & procedures) and intrigue, all woven into a compelling story. I will definitely read more books by this author.

“Everything in Her Life Was Colored a Darker Shade of Pain”
The plight of wild horses becomes the focus as our heroine discovers the truth about her past and looks to her future. Despite the (really wonderful!) quotation, Mindy admits to having had a perfectly happy childhood but despite a few close friendships is rather an introvert and hasn’t much experience with dating. She meets a guy and shyly feels a chemistry brewing, but her coffee date is interrupted by gunfire and suddenly a neighboring rancher is dead and her date’s friend is on the run. And she’s somehow in the middle of everything. The hard work involved in caring for horses is made clear, but doing it with love takes away a lot of the muscle aches, at least mentally–and is so written that I found myself wanting, if not to muck out stalls, then to go on a long trail ride and discover the amazing views.
I loved this book it was filled with murder, suspense and drama plus who committed the crime. The storyline revolves around the treatment of wild horses and the people trying to save them from the killers. Plus you also have your romance in the mist of all the twists and turns of trying to solve the murder and stopping the crime against the horses. This one is a real.page turner.

It was awful what Mindy’s neighbor Fred Rough was doing, rounding up the wild horses and illegally selling them overseas for human consumption. She sees him shot in front her by activist Ken after he pointed a gun at him. Mindy is hurt when she finds out her best friend Antonia is secretly dating Ken and that the Randy who is interested in Mindy was also involved. Then she finds out her mother killed her father. As a result, Mindy was a bit of mess in the book. I liked Randy and thought he was sweet and caring towards Mindy.
Suzanne Jenkins has written an entertaining book set in the Western high desert. It tells the story of Mindy, the granddaughter of a rancher and Randy, a teacher at a local school. They meet at a bakery shop where a man is killed leading into a plot about the plight of captured wild horses and the role of the Bureau of Land Management regarding them. In this story, there are many plot twists and enough feel good romance to satisfy the reader. While the book ended abruptly, the epilogue fills in the blanks and completes the story. A very nice, clean contemporary western romance. 4 stars
I very much enjoyed Running With Horses! My heard hurt for the plight of the wild horses. We live five mile from the Salt River heard in Arizona and very much enjoy seeing them wild and free. It was a sweet love story with a lovely conclusion for all.

I really enjoyed this romantic suspense piece with murder and intrigue and a kick-ass lady. Those people who transport wild mustangs to the safety and freedom they are my heroes and this story has one of those characters. Running With Horses – I love Ms. Jenkins stories and this one is no different. I used to live in the Mojave Desert so it was fun for me to visit after all these decades. Although I never saw any horses, I remember the location and saw everything fresh again with the author’s descriptions. The storylines are good, along with the characters, good and bad, and together they weave a tapestry filled with intrigue, suspense, romance and the plight of wild horses. This book ranks as my favorite alongside Pink Heaven. This is a very talented author in many genres, although I’m not big on her works that contain explicit sex, which I find boring with that genre written by anyone. I contacted the author to review her books and received this one through Booksprout. 5*
Pink Heaven – This must be my favorite of Ms. Jenkins’ stories. She’s in high school and her mother has cancer, which has spread. To help herself cope, the youngster crochets while she rides the bus. Both the added length of the daily ride and the skullcaps bring a piece to her unhappiness and worry about losing her mom to the cancer. A heartwarming and heart wrenching story. The bus driver could have been an angel for what he did in support of the youngster. This story is well written and perfect for a coffee break. It’s only 64 percent of the length of the book; the rest is about the rest of the author’s books. 5*
First Sight: The Prequel: An interesting intro to Jack and Pam and how they met. The family and friends of Pam are interesting in their own right and I’m interested in reading more from this author. This book was well written and orderly, giving enough information about everyone and everything. 5*
Burn District – A well written short story about the horrors a Pennsylvania family must face while fleeing their home to safety in the Southwest. Introduces the characters and scenario before the burning. Sets the pace for Burn District: Yuma. 5*
Burn District (1 or Yuma) – Why are we worried about WMD, when the higher ups in our government can do this to the USA? Included is a prologue, which I appreciate. A well written, action packed suspense with believable characters and a fast paced, developed plot picking up where the prequel Burn District left off. This series definitely should have the reader rethinking social and constitutional beliefs. Editing didn’t catch all the mistakes. It’s helpful to read Burn District first. 5*
Running with Horses by Suzanne Jenkins is a good western romance and suspense story that includes a dead rancher, a killing and wild horse management and a mystery from the past. Suzanne has created a good storyline that describes the world of horse ranching so accurately you can practically see the beauty and feel the heat of the desert, and hear the soothing sound of horses around you.
A big part of the story is about the fate of the wild horses that roam our open ranges. You don’t even have to know a lot about this sometimes cruel management practice to develop an opinion about it.
Mindy was raised by and on her grandparents’ horse ranch. She knows about and despises the wild horse roundups and has actually demonstrated about the conditions the captured horses are kept in. Her childhood friend, Antonia is a veterinarian and California State livestock inspector, which includes the BLM contracted ranches. Both get involved when one of the BLM contracted ranchers is shot and they know the person who shot him.
Not my normal read, but I’m giving five stars for this entertaining, easy to read, Hallmark type suspenseful romance
