In the first novel of this steamy contemporary Western romance series by two blockbuster authors, a cowboy and a woman on the run take a stand and fight for love. Carlin Reed lives in fear, off the grid, moving from place to place. So Battle Ridge, Wyoming, a small town in the middle of nowhere, seems like a good place to lie low for a while. But after becoming cook and housekeeper to cattle … housekeeper to cattle rancher Zeke Decker, Carlin suspects that she’s made her first mistake. Rugged, sexy, and too distracting for his own good, Zeke is pure temptation mixed with something deep and primal that makes Carlin feel almost safe. Soon things are getting way too hot in the kitchen.
Zeke doesn’t challenge Carlin’s terms: cash, dead bolts, and no questions. It is easy to see that she’s a woman in trouble. Problem is, he’s so blindsided by his attraction to her he can’t think straight. Zeke tries to stay all business, no complications—but that game plan is sabotaged the second Carlin gets under his skin. And when her terrifying past follows her to the ranch, Carlin faces a heartbreaking choice: run away from the man she loves, or put him in the crosshairs of a madman.

Good
This story had an adequate amount of action and suspense. I also liked the Wyoming setting and Carlin’s efforts as a cook and housekeeper on the ranch. The banter between Zeke and Carlin was amusing. Snide remarks were their love language.
Not one of her best.
I love when Linda and Linda team up. Good story.
Very good.
First book by this duo. It was fun.
The Best Book that I have Ever Read.
I have read books all of my life since childhood. My parents home had bookshelves full of books. I have over 1600 books in my e-reader. I’ve read serious books, classics, fairy tales, and silly books. I don’t think that I have enjoyed a book more than this one. Please read it. Please have the two authors write …
This is a well-written stalker suspense story with a strong, determined heroine, and a hard-working, goodhearted (and sexy) hero. Carlin and Zeke are both likable characters whose relationship develops when they’re thrown together out of need. Zeke needs a cook/housekeeper to keep the home fires burning and to feed his cowboys during the busy …
This book was a huge disappointment. The story was a good idea but it never materialized into the story it could have been. The first half of the book was spent with characters decrying their relationship and repeating again and again how they weren’t going to work out. I found myself skipping pages just to get through it. This writer is in …
Always fun reads from Linda Howard.
I love anything by Linda Howard!
Loved it you can’t go wrong with Linda Howard .now I need the recipe for her cherry pie .
Amazing!!
The story of Zeke and Carlin was a book that I didn’t want to put down and when I was done I was wishing there was more. The story felt real and the situation happens more frequently then people realize. The characters were wonderful and I hope to see more of the series. I have to say that when I see one of Linda Howard books, I find it hard to …
Carlin is running for her life. A man’s obsession has her off the grid. Stopping in Battle Ridge was suppose to be very brief, but the opportunity to hide on a ranch in the middle of nowhere was to good to pass up. Now she has a reason to stay, she’s in love with Zeke Decker, the owner of the ranch. Zeke will do anything to keep her, even kill …
Good story line, strong characters. A romance but with a evil villain. Felt there was a little too much sex.
