Cute & Funny
Scarlett was in Las Vegas about a possibility of getting the books she writes turned into a weekly show. But the tell her, her characters aren’t edgy enough. She goes back to get her sweater and overhears them saying she is to uptight. Now she wakes up in the morning married. She runs home to Texas. Gavin is a rockstar trying to find his way again after his friend died and also finds out he has a son. Fun times for all.
The story held my interest & the plot was decent. I’ll admit there were a few places that didn’t make sense or didn’t flow well or were kinda too unbelievable to be real. Scarlett & Gavin were likable but not memorable for me. Some of the small town humor is spot on for small town life in Texas, which was why this amused me. Going from a big city back east, where I was raised, to a small Texas town for 17 years of married life & having to put up with that gossip nonsense! That was totally believable in the book! I sure didn’t want to stick around that small-minded/judgmental/gossiping town after the divorce.
Oh my gosh, this chick Scarlett is hilarious! By Chapter 9, I had already laughed so hard that I almost couldn’t believe it!!! I am so KEEPING this book. Just the beginning of the book was enough to get the laughter rolling. Scarlett woke up to one heck of a day. The disasters just kept coming.
It had super great main characters and a supporting cast as well. Scarlett’s best friend and attorney, Luanne Price was best described as a fierce elf. At least that was Gavin’s impression that we heard from his inner dialogue. She was tiny but mighty and most of it was her mouth. And she was a fierce backer of her friend Scarlett.
Honey is Scarlett’s aunt and she isn’t the norm that you would expect. But she had a heart of gold, was flamboyant and as funny as all get out. I enjoyed every moment of her appearance in the story. And it was amusing to watch Honey wrap Gavin around her little finger. She had a special affection for him almost from the first time they met. And even he admitted it was almost impossible to tell her no. He was both charmed and amused by her.
Gavin had a best friend who was also an attorney. Jack Avery was smart , could be ruthless and snarky if anyone even tried to put one over on Gavin. A lot of added fun and humor came when Jack and Luanne clashed..constantly. They loved the witty battles although they wouldn’t admit it.
It wasn’t all fun and games, although there was plenty of that. Both Scarlett and Gavin were carrying baggage from their childhoods. And Gavin had the extra weight of being a famous musician. Someone was always out to get what they could out of him. It made them more interesting and bit more complex, which is always interesting to me.
Oh, you are going to hate Poppy. I know I did. She was causing several problems for Scarlett and she was enjoying every minute of it. She was all up in Scarlett’s face about it too. I knew Scarlett was going to find her way out of it but I just wasn’t sure how it was going to happen.
I really loved the way Scarlett could try a phrase and make me laugh even more. Not cheesy but definitely funny! Like what she called her inner hussy would try to get out of her super good girl control, that was some of the funniest moments. That inner dialogue, made me grin. She was always telling that inner hussy to shut up and stop acting up. But whenever she was around Gavin, that inner hussy came out to play. Gavin actually began to understand there was two parts to her personality. The fiery redhead was who she really was and he did loved it when that part of her showed up.
I think this is the first book that I have read by this author but it won’t be the last. In fact, I liked it so much I have already got the next book in this series,” Running with a Sweet Talker”. Please, Please don’t disappoint me because this one was so good and I want to see that trend continue. Now, I’m going to have to find a way to put this in the Amazon title, “Loved, loved, loved it, let me count the ways”.
Wow, wow, wow …
I nearly pee in my pants just with the opening scene.
The two main characters are wonderful, smart, kind, crazy in their own style.
Gavin is not only a rock star with a dark side due to his past, he can be a mischievous and good hearted man, while Scarlet fought her wild side all her life to be the perfect normal woman to not be compared to her mother.
But they have a pretty good group to take care of them, from the full of life and craziness Honey to straight in her boots Luanne and Jake.
This story shows that redemption is always possible, love is not buried what ever the past had been and the right path is not always the best way.
This novel will make you cry, laugh, shoot, pee (may be) and be sad when you will turn its last page.
OMG why didn’t I read this before? This was sooo fun to read and I can’t wait to read the next two books in the series. This author is definitely added to my authors to read for now on.
Loved this book and now I have everything in the series so far. Great story the opposite’s attract story line is great! Funny and real.
Running From A Rock Star #1 – Although there was a lot of laughter, causing snorts, there were some sad parts in this well written romance with lovable characters and family members. You can’t help but root for the main characters through the laughs and the tears. The side “romance” of the two lawyers will probably make a good story of their own. There was a little vulgar language and a couple short sex scenes, but not anything like the porn that’s passed off as romance novels; your imagination could still fill in the details. I love the fact that this author is a Texan and wrote as one. This is my kind of romance, real people working things out, communicating with each other. I contacted the author to review her books after I found the author’s page while surfing Amazon. 5*
Running With a Sweet Talker #2 – What a substantial read! I love all three books of this series. This is a well written, well thought out, fast paced story. The characters cover all types, blessed to rotten, and range from lovable to despicable. While the main characters have their lives torn asunder, they grow from their experiences and find the good in the end, releasing their woes. All the while, there’s still plenty of Albright humor to go with the difficulties the characters face in their journey. I contacted the author to review her books, which she graciously shared with me. 5*
Jami Albright’s debut novel, Running From A Rock Star (Brides on the Run Book 1), is a delightful, contemporary, romantic comedy. The characters are quirky and very likeable. The dialogue is witty, and the storyline is fun.
Straightlaced, good girl, Scarlet wakes up married to notorious, bad boy, rock star, Gavin, after spending an uncharacteristically wild and drunken night in Vegas. Craziness and hilarity follow. This book is cute, sweet, entertaining and enjoyable. A solid debut.
This is the first story I have read by this author and I absolutely loved it. This book bought sunshine to my day. Some parts did bring tears but I laughed out loud at these characters antics. I mean a drunk wedding, a sexy rock star with lots of tats, a crazy Aunt named Honey and a southern bell trying to keep her wild child inside. What more good you ask for?? Happy Reading!!!
This is the story of Scarlett and Gavin, a very drunken night in Vegas and a boatload of regrets the next morning. It starts of with Scarlett sneaking out of bed, the room, and Vegas after she wakes up next to a very tattooed individual. Unable to find her underwear, she flees leaving a pair of granny pants with her name in them! Gavin tracks Scarlett down to a small town in Texas and asks her to stay married as it will improve his image. Initially, Scarlett says no, but soon changes her mind when she discovers that her family will lose their farm if they can’t get the money together to save it. Throw in a crazy best friend, a smooth talking lawyer and a high school bully and you have a fun read. Would recommend this book and look forward to number 2.
I really enjoyed this book. Funny and heart warming.
This is my first Jami Albright book and I can honestly say I love her style. The humor and love that is in this book, makes you want to be best friends with the characters. When you read it, pay special attention to the biscuit scene. It will have tears running down your cheeks…in a good way.
I struggled very hard with this book…struggled not to laugh hysterically out-loud! This was completely hilarious and you know it will be a good book when someone is called idjits .
Add the threat of castration from the spunky Sunday school teacher and I was laughing my butt off.
Party Rock Star Gavin and Sunday School Teacher/Children’s Book Author Scarlett wake up together in bed …in Vegas… married. This is not your normal married a stranger in Vegas story. It is filled with quick witted banter, very addictive characters, strong sexual tension, then throw in the challenge of Gavin trying to track down a kid that may be his and home trouble Scarlett is dealing with. Every thing about this was enjoyable and addicting.
Majority of this book I had a constant smirk on my face, many times laughing so hard I’m crying. Of course some serious moments here and there were added to the mix but overall just a happy feel good story.
I couldn’t get enough of this book it was just so much fun!
A witty and entertaining story from the beginning. I loved Scarlet’s family. Gavin is a rockstar with a marshmallow centre and Scarlet is a good girl with a wild child inside!
This book was a non-stop hilarious ride… couldn’t stop reading, and totally recommend it.
Loved it
This is the first book I’ve read from this author and it was such a great rockstar romance read. This story started out with laugh out loud moments. After all, Scarlett was betrayed by the granny panties and I cannot forget how she learned to make biscuits. It definitely fit the situation in more ways than one. Gavin and Scarlett will have your heart from the very first page. I loved them! I also loved Scarlett’s dad Floyd, her aunt Honey and her best friend/attorney Luanne. Even Jack, Kristy and Aiden became part of the family. There were a few repetitive parts in the story but this story is full of surprises, laughs, threats, wild videos, steamy scenes, worthless mothers and great friends and family. The ending was sweet and I’m looking forward to reading more books from this author. I’m hoping Jack and Luanne get a story because it’s as if their back and forth banter has just begun and there’s more to come. I’m looking forward to downloading and reading the little surprise at the end of this book, I’m sure I will get more laughs. This story is worth reading.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author. Picked it up on Kindle Unlimited, because it sounded cute and had a high rating. While I don’t think the book was terrible, it just didn’t flow for me. It could be my issues were I had to keep reading this book in snippets, instead of bigger stretches of time. It had cute, funny spots, but Gavin and Scarlett annoyed me almost as much as they entertained me.
I liked Luanne and Jack better than these two, but doubt I’ll ever pick up their book. Cuz it also annoys me when the author doesn’t tie everything up.
This was my first Jami Albright. This is the first book in the Brides on the Run Series, a Romantic Comedy. Scarlett and Gavin’s story is hilarious and sweet. The story is beautifully written. Impossible to stop listening to it. Jennifer Grace did a great job with the narration. I enjoyed this story, and I highly recommend it. This is a great start to this Series. Now, I can’t wait for the next book in the Series, Running With a Sweet Talker.
I loved this series. I started it out of order but them came back to book 1. It started as many of my favorite books do, with a drunken wedding night in Vegas. Gavin in your typical rockstar trying to clean up his image. Scarlett is your perfect girl next dirl trying to live down her mother’s floozy legacy. I love all the characters, they are funny in an underhanded sort of way a lot of the time, and they have a lot of small time love.
The audio by Jennifer Grace was well done, and the accents didn’t feel fake or forced, the performance was very smooth.
