When Josie Jensen, an awkward 13-year-old musical prodigy crashes headlong into new-comer Samuel Yazzie, an 18-year-old Navajo boy full of anger and confusion, an unlikely friendship blooms. Josie teaches Samuel about words, music and friendship, and along the way finds a kindred spirit. Upon graduation, Samuel abandons the sleepy, small town in search of a future and a life, leaving his young … friend behind. Many years go by and Samuel returns, finding Josie in need of the very things she offered him years before. Their roles reversed, Samuel teaches Josie about life, love, and letting go. Deeply romantic and poignant, Running Barefoot is the story of a small town girl and a Native American boy, the ties that bind them to their homes and families, and the love that gives them wings.

It’s rare that a contemporary set novel holds my attention as much as this book did. It was chock full of the themes I love, whatever the time period and her writing makes me pause for those “selah” moments where the words are just so perfect. I’m glad I discovered Amy Harmon’s books. I shall read another.
I have loved all of Amy Harmon’s books, and this one is no exception! I loved the story; do yourself a favor and read this!
This book was awesome. It’s about Josie and Sam and how their friendship develops and their lives entwine. They learn about life and love from each other. This book is emotional and very well written. I could not put it down but that is the case with all Ms Harmon’s books. Great read

Amy Harmon never fails to amaze me with the stories she creates. Running Barefoot is a standalone novel she wrote before I started reading her books in 2013. It was this little title that didn’t have a lot of reviews and wasn’t a priority for me. The audiobook became available so I figured I would read some of her earlier work. If you’re a fan of …
