All’s fair in love and war … And this is warFamily is just the worst. We’ve all got that one cousin who’s a raging turdhammer. My family thinks it’s me: Loki, God of Mischief Extraordinaire. But it’s not. It’s not even Thor, hammer references aside. It’s Odin, the AllDick. Listen, I’m not mad that I woke up in a woman’s body after the apocalypse. These things happen. The problem is, Odin stole … The problem is, Odin stole my runes. You know, the ones that keep me smart, charming, and oh yeah, immortal.
With the AllDick cockblocking my every move, a frenemy chicken interfering in my biz, and the strange, delicious feelings this new body has for the knight-in-modern armor who keeps coming to my rescue, I’ll need every weapon in my war chest (which is bodaciously big–gods, how do you ladies sleep on these things?) if I’m going to survive.
Although, I’ve never been one for the bare minimum. Why only survive when I can thrive? If Odin thought Ragnarok was bad, he’s in for the ride of his afterlife when he gets a load of the new me.

THIS is the exact reason I love trying NEW TO ME authors. This book was frigging HILARIOUS. It was also a fantastically enjoyable book. Well written. Well paced. A witty and original plot. Full of Norse mythology and characters. So much humor. A bit of romance. Surprises. A road trip. A crazy chicken. A gender swapping (hero) heroine. Two fantastic secondary characters, and a cliffhanger that will leave you dying to get your hands on book two.
What more can you ask for. I LOVED it and I need book two…NOW!
I really enjoyed reading this book. I want to read more by this author. It was very entertaining and outside the box from the Same old story lines.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review.
I really enjoyed getting lost in Runed by Kendall Grey. This book is hilarious and for me as a reader the Norse mythology was something toally new to me. The characters are amazing and the chicken…..Oh my gosh I loved the chicken. I am sure waking up in the 21century for a Norse trickster had to be mind blowing And Loki is experiencing sich a thing. Loki has also come innthe form of a wiman and is immediately rescued by Gunner Magnusson. This begins a journey that if wild and crazy. Loki is on a mission to go have his/her runes. After all four are collected she will have her godhood restored.
If you’re ready for an adventure different from anything you have ever read then this is the book for you. I can not wait to dive into the next book to see what happens.
I loved this book and cant wait to read the next one.
O.M.G. Where do I START?!
This book was hilariously funny, imaginative, and left me wanting MORE!
Loki The Trickster has been awakened in modern times over a thousand years after bringing about Ragnarok. Loki’s current predicament? He’s now a SHE and all of HER runes that make her a… ahem… GODDESS have been stripped from her. With the help of a googley eyed immortal chicken and some new mortal friends Loki must find her runes to regain her God(dess) like glory. The twist at the end was UTTERLY evil and I’m rabid for the release of the next book in Loki and company’s story!
Mythical, hilarious, delightful! I know this author writes with a twisted sense of humor, but this story took me totally off guard.
This story is different than anything I have listened to this year, and I can’t wait to listen to more in the Asgard Awakening series.
If your looking for pn and a laugh than this audible book is for you!!
Natalie Duke is the narrator and she nailed it.
New twist on an old saga. Well written and edited. Can be read as a stand-alone, but curiosity will keep you engaged and ready to follow the characters along their journey.
Kendall Grey takes Norse mythology and twists it inside out. In this gender-bending, exciting and often hilarious first book in her new urban fantasy series Ms. Grey proves the often-made claim of ‘there are no original story ideas left’, to be total bullshit. The trickster god Loki wakes from his slumber in a tomb of ice, only to realize Ragnarok wasn’t the end for him and also he’s been reincarnated as a bodacious blonde bombshell. Yes, that is a chicken on the cover and he is not the only interesting and loveable character in this story. So, you should read it, you won’t regret it. I would give this story more stars if I could.
Loved this book! It was so original, and, * spoiler alert *
Gender bending in a way. I usually don’t like books that make me laugh but this had just the right amount of humor. It didn’t try too hard, it just was. I will be reading the sequels!
I loved everything about this book. The storyline is so original. The characters are witty and loveable. It successfully falls into the Comedy category with moments that make you laugh out loud. Definitely a recommended read.
I received this book for free. I am voluntarily leaving this review and all opinions expressed herein are mine.
This is the first book in the Awakening series. It is not a standalone book and ends with a cliffhanger/set up for the next book in the series.
Here, Loki [yes, the same Loki from Greek mythology] wakes up after thousands of years encased in ice. He is confused as to his gender [he’s now a woman], that he has been asleep for so long [it’s now modern day] and that no one is interested in treating like a God. The first person Loki meets Gunnar Magnesson, a grad student, who is traveling back to the United States the next day. Loki has to find the magical runes and she enlists the help of Gunnar Magnesson, Gunnar’s stoner friend and a chicken.
This is a good twist on the Loki story. It is lighthearted with some humorous moments [not laugh-out-loud but a chuckle or two] at the antics of Loki and the gang as Loki learns to navigate in our modern society. A nice twist was a TV show about mythological Loki which angered Loki as it was not an accurate depiction. I was worried that Loki’s character was going to be a little one note [I am a God and I am not of this time period] but I was pleasantly surprised at Loki’s character growth as the story developed. The adventure/quest moves along at a good pace and is overall, very enjoyable.
I listened to this book- the narrator was a total compliment to the manner in which this book was written. She also adopts a great Nordic accent for Loki.
Rather silly characters
After reading the blurb, I really looked forward to this book, I really enjoy the Norse gods genre, but I was disapointed, I found the story difficult to get into, I didn’t like FMC/M? Loki, the gender confusion didn’t help, sorry but not for me. I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
Sassy and snarky as any novel involving Loki, but I found the characters a little simplified. There is a great twist at the end (no spoilers!)
Found it confusing and I don’t know enough about the old myths.
