Londyn McCormack didn’t have a typical childhood. She ran away from home at sixteen, escaping parents more interested in drugs than their daughter. She doesn’t have loving siblings or an adorable pet. Her only family is the five other runaway kids who shared her junkyard home.Life pulled them all in separate directions, taking her to Boston. For a short time, she thought she’d found something … something permanent. But after a devastating divorce, she’s running away again, this time to find a lost friend.
She’s driving across the country in her convertible. As a teenager, the rusty car was her shelter. As an adult, it’s her ride to freedom.
Except one flat tire derails her trip. Her life collides with Brooks Cohen. They walked away from the first crash. The second might destroy them both.

Devney Perry has given us the start of another GREAT series!!! The Runaway Series is off to an AMAZING start. I can’t wait until we get each of these 6 books.
Runaway Road is the first book in this series. This is Londyn’s journey to finding a forever home. I thought this was an entertaining and captivating story. This was a little bit on the lighter side than what we have seen from Devney before, but it had everything we as a romance reader have come to expect from Devney’s stories.
Londyn is one of 6 runaways who live in a junkyard in California when they are teenagers. She is now 27 years old and leaving her life in Boston behind. Set on a mission to return the cadillac she and Karson “lived” in when they were younger, she sets out on the road to find Karson. But when fate and a flat tire land her in a small town in West Virginia, little did she know how much her life would change.
I have to say I loved both Brooks and Londyn. They were fun, sweet and sexy characters that sucked me into their lives. I loved how Londyn was able to turn her hard beginnings into a life that was so full of love and family. All I can really say about Brooks is that you WANT to meet this Hero. He was sexy, sweet, and swoony!!!
This is a standalone novel told in Dual POV. It was a shorter and slightly quicker read than her other books, but this book lacks for nothing. I thought the flow and pace was perfect and the character development was great. This story will have your emotions all over the place. I love when we get a story that connects with all of a readers emotions. This one even took me by surprise towards the end of the story…..I truly didn’t see that coming 😉
If you love Devney Perry’s books, then you don’t want to miss this latest GEM!!!! If you are looking for a sweet and romantic book that will suck you in from the beginning, then you want to read this book!!!
Definitely going on my Best of 2020 list!!!
4.5+ stars
Londyn McCormack is running away…for the second time in her life. The first time she was a teen from a bad home who first found a group of friends and later achieved the life she thought she wanted with a wealthy husband, challenging job, and all the trappings of success. But it became her prison and she lost herself. So now she is celebrating her divorce by running away again, maybe to California, maybe somewhere else…anywhere but Boston. She wants to find herself, peace, and an old friend. But an unexpected detour finds her stuck in Summers, West Virginia.
Brooks Cohen is her savior on the road and responsible for trying to fix her car to get her back on her way. He is a rugged, sweet, funny, true gentleman with deep roots in the community. And Londyn comes in and shakes up his orderly life.
Delays kept her in town longer than expected but also gave them time to spend together. And the more time they spend together, the closer they get. It is insta-attraction, but also slow-burn towards more. They have a fun, flirty, sweet, and sexy connection that keeps drawing them together. And they make the most of their time but always knowing that an end date was coming and she planned on leaving.
Will she find herself on the road again or has she finally found a place that could finally feel like a real home?
This book is just so engaging, fun, and just a breath of fresh air! It is a wonderful story about a woman finding herself and her place in the world. I adored Brooks and Londyn. Even though this book is a bit shorter than some, it still told all the story it needed to and established the characters, conflicts, and setting well. It is not overly angsty or dark despite some difficult subjects. There is a bit of mystery and suspense woven into the story. They are two people trying not to make a mistake or get hurt, but are helpless to stop. It flowed easily and kept me interested. I loved the community in Summers and it made me feel like I was right there visiting these quirky characters.
I am looking forward to the next book featuring her longtime friend, Gemma on her own adventure.
AC provided in exchange for an honest review
Londyn is heading for the open road after her divorce. She’s taking her restored Cadillac across the United States but gets stuck in Virginia. If she’s going to be stuck somewhere she definitely picked the place to get a flat tire. It’s where she meets Brooks.
Let me tell you, I fell in love with Brooks. I’m not even kidding, he just makes me sigh. Londyn is a strong woman but has insecurities. With Brooks though she becomes stronger. I love the way they are with each other.
This book takes you on emotional journey, a lot of it with a smile on your face but times with tears in your eyes. I loved taking the journey with these two and I couldn’t wait to find out how the book ended. I was also scared to find out how it was going to end. Pick it up and take the journey with these two!
Imagine the life you built falling apart as quickly as it landed in your lap. It is the stark reality that Londyn is facing in her life. Shedding the tendrils of a marriage that was less that fulfilling, Londyn sets out on a trek across the US to gain back some of her past. It is journey that was meant to lead Londyn to uncover the strength that she possessed long ago, but had somehow lost along the way. What Londyn didn’t count on was a little bit of intervention in the form of a busted tire.
When a bump in the road leads to Londyn crossing paths with Brooks, things take an unexpected turn in this quaint town. Brooks is everything that Londyn could hope for in a man, but staying here in West Virginia just isn’t in the plan. As Londyn waits for her repairs, she decides spending a little time with Brooks wouldn’t hurt. Or will it? The attraction between the couple is bursting at the seams, but is there any reason to indulge when Londyn is honest that she will not stay?
Runaway Road is the latest release from Devney Perry and the first in a new series. The concept of finding a second chance at happiness in life is very appealing as a reader. Londyn and Brooks kept me glued to my reader with the simplicity of their attraction. What’s not to love when the characters come from humble beginnings? Brooks was definitely the type of man that readers would dream of finding that ‘happily ever after’ with.
This story has it all…..angst, romance, and an attraction that is off the charts. The one thing I found distracting was the face the descriptions of the setting took place in West Virginia. If you know West Virginia well, then you know this town would never exists in a million years, nor the beautifully descriptive words surrounding the backroads. It was a bit distracting to imagine such a place in West Virginia, so I had to push that information out of my mind. Otherwise – the inconsistencies would have driven me crazy.
Runaway Road is definitely the type of story that you long to find in a sea of new releases. It has everything wrapped up in an interesting cover just waiting for you to dive into. Make sure you add Runaway Road to your collection…..you can thank me later!!
Londyn McCormack ran away once as a teen and started over. Now she finds herself on the road running again.
“Running away was how Londyn stayed in control. It was her protection mechanism.”
Until she landed in Summers and ran smack to Brooks Cohan. Londyn thinks she needs the freedom of the road and running, but there is definitely something that wants to bind her to this small West Virginia Town.
“She’d blown into town and made me realize the hole in my life. The hole in the exact shape of a five-foot-five blond woman with jade-green eyes.”
Runaway Road is a sweet small town romance that delivers with an emotional story. It is the first standalone in the Runaway series.
-4.5 Stars!-
Runaway road is a story that shows sometimes you need a little distance to find yourself and those things that really matter to you! Londyn is a former runaway who is restarting her life after a divorce and decides to runaway from life again. This time she plans to find and catch up with a childhood friend but fate might have other plans for her. This is a fantastic start to this new series, I can’t wait to see what happens next!!
When I started Runaway Road, I would have never thought it would blow away all my expectations and currently be my SECOND favorite read of ALL TIME! And I haven’t had anything break into my Top 5 all time reads in a few years
Londyn didn’t grow up with that picture perfect family. Many would say the way she grew up is what nightmares are made of, which leads to her leaving when she was sixteen and finding five amazing friends and creating their own family. Years later she’s starting over, yet again, on this brand new journey, finding herself and owning her own happiness and that Londyn? She’s inspiring. She’s bold. She’s fearless.
On Londyn’s journey she happens to run into Brooks who’s this sexy, handsome mechanic that falls for Londyn with just one look. But this journey isn’t supposed to be about Londyn finding love, she did that once and wasn’t interested in it again, at least not this soon. What she didn’t expect is loving this little town in West Virginia, the people, the charm or Brooks. Sometimes the hardest road is the best, sometimes the road less traveled is the one we were supposed to be on all along.
Denvey brought Londyn’s character to life perfectly! Throughout our own lives most of us have lost our way at least once, but that journey to rediscovering ourselves? That’s always the greatest, yet most terrifying part, and that’s what Londyn’s story is truly all about and it makes for the very best story that you’ll never want to leave.

This book is so incredibly satisfying. Londyn and Brooks are so sweet and fun. Devney Perry has created a series with such an interesting concept! This is fresh and new and I LOVE it.
The romance is sweet and sexy at the same time. The setting is enchanting and makes me want to visit. The story is interesting and I loved the slight thriller aspect that kept me guessing.
It’s hands down a 5 star read! I cannot wait to meet the rest of the Junkyard Crew and see what life holds for them. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE a trillion times love! BRAVA Devney Once again!
The Runaway Road is again, a beautiful story that leaves you ready for the rest of this new series. Devney takes you on a road trip through Londyn McCormacks wandering story… The characters make you swoon, and leave you wanting to know more. I can’t wait for the next book!
Review I am so excited about this series and the journeys we will embark on with these delightful characters! As a child, I read all of The Boxcar Children books. They hold such a place of nostalgia in my heart, so to see a favorite romance author like Devney Perry use them as inspiration for writing a spectacular new romance series just thrills my soul. With Runaway Road we are off to a fantastic start!
In this book we meet Londyn McCormack, a twenty-nine year old woman trying to put the pieces of her life back together after a bitter, and heart-breaking divorce. Starting over is not a prospect that Londyn is unfamiliar with. Sadly, this spirited and perseverant young woman has become something of an expert on the detours of life, and the need to pioneer a new path in life. She is an utter inspirational heroine and one that you’ll adore. Her strength, ingenuity, courage, sense of humor, and her genuine zest for the life she’s always dreamed of makes her beyond lovable. You’ll long to get your arms around her and squeeze the stuffing out of her. A very captivating heroine that is sure to appeal to all the readers of Runaway Road.
At this time, Londyn is forging a new path to find an old friend. After an accident she lands in the small town of Summers, West Virginia where she meets thirty-three year old mechanic Cohen Brooks.
Cohen and Londyn are immediately drawn together. Cohen is the perfect gentleman, and goes above and beyond showing care and concern for the solo traveler set on a mission to find her old friend Karson. Cohen is pure SWOON draped in denim and grease stained Dickeys. Sharing everything from boat rides to picnics, and dinners alfresco on the rocks under the stars, Cohen and Londyn grow quite close during her brief layover in Summers. Is this closeness dangerous or is it destiny? Will Londyn risk her heart once again or will she hit the ground running? Only she knows if Cohen is her missing piece.
An endearing storyline that is sure to have you smiling from ear to ear. I truly enjoyed the light-hearted banter, sweetness, and the simmering heat between Cohen and Londyn. I can’t wait for Gemma Lane to runaway with my heart next!!!
Highly recommend you buckle up and hit the road with me and Devney.
This is the first book in a new series and I definitely enjoyed reading it. I always love a good book by this author and her writing is just really good! Can’t wait to read the next one!
Londyn wants to leave everything behind and leaves Boston, the city that never really felt like home to her. Now she’s on the road to California to hopefully find an old friend but she gets stuck in a small town after having some car trouble. When she first meets Brooks, there’s an instant chemistry between them and an easiness that both haven’t really felt in a long time. The more time they spend together and the more they get to know each other, feelings start to grow. Even though Londyn is not staying too long, both don’t seem to want to let each other go and when one mystery happens after another, fate seems to be keeping her there. Will Brooks be able to make Londyn see that she could have a future there or will she move on and never look back?…
Runaway Road is a sweet, cute, and quick read about letting go of your past and finding yourself. I started this story, planning to read just a few chapters before bed, fast forward to 1am and I was reading the last sentence. This story is a bit lighter than the others written by this author and it just cements that I will love everything she writes.
After her divorce becomes final, Londyn leaves Boston in hopes of finding a friend from her past. When she gets a flat tire outside the small town of Summers, Brooks drives in with a tow truck to save the day. Londyn has no choice but to stay in town for a few days while the repairs are made to her car. However, neither of them are prepared for the quick friendship and attraction that leads to deeper romantic feelings when their time together is so short.
I absolutely loved watching their relationship progress, it was so sweet and so darn cute! While this is a shorter read and things between Londyn and Brooks move quickly, it was fleshed out so well and the detail was added so that it did not feel “insta-lovey” at all. There was depth added to the story and I enjoyed it so much. This story is the perfect mix of romance, humor, steamy scenes, and a small dash of suspense.
I am so excited to see where the rest of the series goes. I can’t wait to get my hands on Londyn’s best friend, Gemma’s story next.
Grateful to have received a complimentary ARC copy to honestly review.
5 stars
What a start to a new series by Ms. Perry. Londyn has created a new life for herself after a childhood that caused her to become a runaway. She has wealth and things in her life she never dreamed she would have, until one day it comes crashing down around her. She does the one thing she is very good at, she runs. Starting over means a cross country drive to California. Along the way she has to take a detour and winds up in Summers, West Virginia. What follows is a story that will melt your heart and make you believe that the people we come across in this world have a purpose and are all meant to be there when they get there. I cannot wait for more from these amazing characters in this new series!
Cara – Alphas Do It Better Book Blog
I always love knowing the story behind the story, and in this case the story behind a whole series. Even as a child I was an avid reader and the Boxcar Children was definitely a series I devoured, so when I learned that Devney Perry’s new series was inspired by these amazing children books I knew I was going to thoroughly enjoy it.
In book 1 of the Runaway series we learn about Londyn McCormack, she had just left a failed marriage and attempting to find some peace while on the road. She had plans to try to find an old friend, but things didn’t go as planned. After an unfortunate accident she is stuck in Summers, West Virginia where the more time she spends there, the more at home she feels.
Brooks Cohen is the local mechanic who happened to be the one to assist her and her car into town. He has lived in Summers all his life and has been relatively happy, but with meeting and getting to know Londyn, he realizes what is missing in his life. Unfortunately, Londyn’s stay in his town is short lived and the type of man he is, he would not hold her back from what she needs. I absolutely adored this man! He is the complete package, he is trust-worthy, protective, cares so much for everyone in his life, and not to mention breathtakingly handsome.
The love story between these two was more on the slow burn side. With Londyn leaving as soon as her car was repaired, they both did not think it was a good idea to get close, until their attraction became undeniable. What was really wonderful was how you really see their relationship grow and my heart just melted seeing Londyn finally finding the home she has been desperately seeking.
Runaway Road was such a great start to the new series, I can not wait for Gemma’s story next!
„You need to be free.”
Queen of small-town romances did it again! She created such a heartwarming and uplifting story that after finishing it I was sitting with the biggest smile on my face and with my heart full. Runaway Road is an epic tale about finding what you’re searching for in the most unexpected place. It’s a journey to get free from what’s holding you back and to start live the life you want for yourself. It’s captivating, addicting and completely unputdownable. I’m delighted with this book!
I was a fan of Londyn from the very beginning. I love heroines who are strong enough to leave unsatisfying life behind and are bold enough to not look back. She’s sweet, kind and strong. I loved to see how she changed with the course of time. Summers was supposed to be just a pit-stop on her way to freedom, but it turned out to be her place in the world.
Brooks stole my heart in the moment when he came out of his tow-truck. This sexy mechanic is so dreamy! He’s polite, funny, caring, considerate and loving. He’s close with his family and he’s loyal to a fault. He doesn’t care about material things and wants by his side someone who will share his love for normal small-town life. He’s a very attentive and passionate man and I love him with my whole heart!
Although their attraction towards each other was instant, they weren’t acting on it recklessly. Their romance was a delicious slow-burn and I was waiting with bated breath for the development of their relationship. I swooned so hard when they opened up to each other and when they became intimate the sparks were flying all over the place! Londyn and Brooks are #RelationshipGoals. They are supportive, understanding, caring and passionate. They were for each other exactly who they needed, even if they didn’t know about it. I couldn’t get enough of them!
Runaway Road is a charming and beautiful book, filled to the brim with hope and love. Londyn’s story brought me so much joy that I can’t stop smiling. Devney Perry writes magnificent romances and this one is no exception. I can’t wait for more books in this series!
Wow!!!!! This book. Holy moly. I LOVED it.
The story started off intriguing, and sucked me in from the very first page all the way until the end. What an amazingly sweet, low key (in all the best ways!!) story that left me feeling all the emotions.
There was just enough drama to add a little extra to it, but without going over the top. The characters were down to earth and real. I adored Brooks, my goodness, holy hotness!!!! And Londyn..you really can’t help but fall in love with her also.
All in all, I 100% absolutely loved this book, and cannot wait for the next one in the series!! I devoured this in one night sitting. Amazing story!!
Loved this book!
London has come a long way from the runaway who lived in a junkyard, now divorced she’s set out for an adventure driving her restored Cadillac, the one she used to live in, to California to find her friend who shared it with her. Fate has a different idea, a flat tire lands her in Summers, West Virginia.
Brooks life has thrown him a couple curve balls, becoming a father at 17, taking over his grandfather’s garage instead of going to college but the best curveball happens when he tows the Cadillac to his garage.
This is a sweet story and I loved every word, this is the first in a series of standalones and I can’t wait for the next one!
This 5 star story was an amazing page turner. The idea was original and quite entertaining. I read it in almost one sitting. I couldn’t seem to be able to put it down.
Londyn has had enough and embarks on a road trip. She finds herself stranded in a small town. Little did she know, fate brought and kept her there. Everything she had been searching all her life was right there and waiting.
I just loved this beautifully written story. It was original and well thought out. I loved Londyn who is a survivor and never a victim. She’s a fierce heroine. This story was an adventure. It was captivating and had some suspense too. Bottomline this is a must read and can’t wait for more.
Standalone told in mostly Londyn’s POV with an HEA. I strongly recommend this story. More to come and can’t wait.
A new series by Devney Perry…LOVED it!!
An easy read…laughter, little suspense, tears and lots of love!
Londyn has had enough of the Boston life. From a tough childhood to a tough marriage…it was time for her to find out what she was all about…find the things she was missing in her life…family, love, peace, a place to call home. She leaves it all behind and she embarks on a journey…a road trip from Boston to California.
Brooks is a small town guy…and every girls dream…looks good, owns his own business, acts nice, has money, a family, a home.
Detours on road trips are almost always fun…you never know what you are going to encounter.
An act of misfortune brings them together. A friendship and budding romance soon develops. But the time comes for Londyn to continue on her journey.
“Don’t forget me,” I whispered. I’d been forgotten by too many people. I couldn’t bear the idea of Brooks forgetting me too.
“I’ll remember you until the end, Londyn.” Brooks ran his knuckles along my cheek, leaving a trail of sparks on my skin. “Until the end.”
Londyn realizes she’s found what she had set out to find…peace with herself, love, family, and a place she could finally call home.
This is going to be a fabulous series!! Really can’t wait for next in the series…Wild Highway!
Great job Devney!!
I loved this story! Londyn and Brooks have amazing chemistry and are great for each other! You can’t help but root for them!! 5 stars!! It’s a must read and I cannot wait for more in this series!!
