Londyn McCormack didn’t have a typical childhood. She ran away from home at sixteen, escaping parents more interested in drugs than their daughter. She doesn’t have loving siblings or an adorable pet. Her only family is the five other runaway kids who shared her junkyard home.Life pulled them all in separate directions, taking her to Boston. For a short time, she thought she’d found something … something permanent. But after a devastating divorce, she’s running away again, this time to find a lost friend.
She’s driving across the country in her convertible. As a teenager, the rusty car was her shelter. As an adult, it’s her ride to freedom.
Except one flat tire derails her trip. Her life collides with Brooks Cohen. They walked away from the first crash. The second might destroy them both.

A beautiful, heartwarming, small-town romance!
Well Devney Perry has done it again! Shes created a new series and just like that, I’m hooked and I need more. I immediately fell for these characters (the ones we meet in this book and the ones we will meet later).
Londyn is at a cross roads in her life. She’s left her cheating and controlling husband behind. She has decided to runaway in her treasured restored vintage car from Boston, where she re-invented herself, to California where she once ran to to save herself. Along the way she runs into some issues and has to stay in a small town in West Virginia. And that’s where everything changes. This is where she meets Brooks. He’s going to repair her vintage car and in the process they end up helping each other repair themselves from damage they have sustained in life.
First off, this book/series has a fantastic premise. I loved the Boxed Car Children when I was growing up. Deveny took this idea, and molded it in to stories about where these runaway kids would be when they were all grown up! I read this book in one sitting, it was that good! Absolutely a sweet small town romance, with a hint of mystery.
Londyn is completely done with her life and basically takes her divorce as a way to runaway and find herself. After a miscalculation and a flat tire, she ends up stranded in a small town in West Virginia. Handsome mechanic Brooks comes to her rescue in more way than one. Both of these character were authentic and this book will leave you with a smile on your face. I can wait to see where Devney takes us in the next book in the series.
“Thunk. My hand pressed against my heart. She was stealing it, little by little.”
Londyn McCormack is used to running. She’s been doing it for most of her life, and when the most recent chapter of her life takes a turn for the worse, the open road calls. But life has a way of making us slow down and appreciate things that might go unnoticed if we pass by too quickly. Sometimes our best lives can be found in the most unexpected people and places…
I’m an avowed Devney Perry fan. She writes it, I’ll read it. But I am not afraid to say that RUNAWAY ROAD, the first book in her new Runaway series, stole my heart and won’t let it go. And, you know what? I’m going to make the claim right here that this is one of my favorite of her books, like, ever.
I really like Londyn. For someone with her past, she’s darned good at picking herself up and making the most of things. But, as far as she’s come, she’s never forgotten the people that made up her family of choice, and the time seems right to reconnect with them. But…Life. Fate apparently has other plans in mind for Londyn, in the place of Summers, West Virginia, and the person of one Brooks Cohen.
Brooks Cohen, y’all. Can I just say, yes, please and thank you. He’s the real deal, a man of integrity and passion that makes settling down in a small town in West Virginia seem like the best idea ever. If there weren’t already many reasons to spend some time getting to know and love Summers, West Virginia, he’s it.
RUNAWAY ROAD is one of those books that goes by in a flash because it’s just so completely enjoyable that it’s hard to put it down. The characters, the chemistry, the setting, and Devney’s gift with words made this an easy 5-star read for me, and one that fans of contemporary small town romance with a pinch of suspense are going to love. Do you want it on your TBR? Yes, you most assuredly do. Grab it, read it, fall in love with these characters, and get ready for more Runaway goodness, because there’s plenty more to come.
Just throw me down the rabbit hole of Devney Perry’s writing again. With every new story she writes, I am sucked right in. I literally can’t put it down. This new series….I LOVE it already. I mean, really. It might be the best yet. Londyn’s history was heartbreaking and so sad, yet it holds a magical quality within it. I adore the premise of a group of homeless teenagers living in a junkyard. Completely unique and new. The connection and chemistry between Londyn and Brooks was palpable from the moment they met. I loved the way they built something real over the short time she was in Summers, even knowing that she was leaving soon. Runaway Road was another incredible story by one of my favorite authors. I encourage everyone to read her words. Simply magic.
Runaway Road is the first book in Devney Perry’s Runaway series. At the age of 29, for the second time in her life, Londyn McCormack is running away. The first time round she was 16 and escaping her heroin addict parents. She found a home in a junkyard making a family of sorts with 5 other runaways, sleeping in a wrecked 1964 Cadillac Deville convertible. Eventually they all went their separate ways with Londyn ending up in Boston, married to Thomas, a stockbroker several years her senior, who moulds her into the ‘perfect’ wife. When she catches Thomas with his mistress she’s forced to take a hard look at herself and realises how much she doesn’t like her life and what she has become. After the divorce she sets off in the now restored Cadillac Deville, ostensibly to find her childhood friends but in reality to find herself.
This is a beautiful, sweet romance albeit with some steamy moments between the hero & heroine. In some ways Londyn reminds me of a teenager experiencing her first love when she meets Brooks. Despite the neglect of her upbringing she comes across as slightly naïve and innocent and I get the idea with her trying to locate her long lost friends the reality is she’s just looking for the security she had felt for the first time in her life when she was with them. Fear of making another mistake makes her wary of opening her heart and letting Brooks in when love is in front of her.
This author has such a way with words I could picture Summers in my head as I read her vivid descriptions of Brook’s home town. I can’t wait to read Gemma’s story next in Wild Highway and see where the road takes her.
When Devney Perry writes something new, I’m never quite sure what to expect. I don’t know why I doubt her–she hasn’t failed me yet.
I love the premise of this new series. Basically, it’s what happens to a group of runaways, who all make their own family together in a junkyard, after they grow up–kind of a “where are they now?” type thing. This idea was born from the series The Boxcar Children–how cool is that?
Runaway Road is the story of Londyn, one of these “junkyard” kids. She’s newly divorced and excited to embrace her freedom on a cross-country road trip. When a tire blows and she ends up stranded in a tiny town in West Virginia, she meets Brooks, the owner of the local garage, and finds herself on a completely different and unexpected path. She then has to decide if she’s willing to put her heart on the line for a shot at true happiness or if she should be safe and continue on her freedom journey. I loved Brooks and Londyn! I devoured this book–read it in one sitting. These are relatable characters that you just find yourself cheering for. If you’re looking for a quick and easy read with ALL THE FEELS and a dash of suspense, get to clickin’ this small town romance. I just adored it and can’t wait for the next in the series.
I loved this book!!
Devney a Perry gives a sweet story of love and finding home. Londyn decided she needed a fresh start after her divorce so she hits the road in her red Cadillac and plans a road trip to California. What she didn’t plan on was Brooks. After an accident leaves her car out of commission, Londyn spends some time in a small town in West Virginia and while she’s there she gets to know Brooks, the good looking, sweet garage owner who’s fixing her car. Devney gives us a love story like only she can write. We get to watch as this relationship blossoms with minimal angst. Runaway Road is shorter than some of her other books but no less amazing!
4.5 stars
Runaway Road is the first book in Devney Perrys new Runaway series and Londyns story is a great way to start the new series.
Londyn didn’t have a “normal” childhood growing up and after running away from home made up a family of her own with the other runaway kids that are living at the junkyard. As she gets older her life changes. She moves, gets married, and things are looking good…until they aren’t and the next thing she knows is she’s divorced and now is the time for her to not only find herself but to find an old friend aswell. With her convertible and her belongings, Londyn sets off and with no time table is happy to take her time. Until her tyre blows and she’s left stranded in the middle of nowhere.
Brooks is extremely easy to like. It could be that he’s a bit of a white knight coming to Londyns rescue. Or it could just be that he’s a really nice, genuine guy. He seems like the opposite of Londyn in so many ways but they really work together. The instant attraction, the chemistry that keeps building between them, the banter, the sweet getting to know you moments, they all had me absolutely loving Londyn and Brooks.
Runaway Road is a great way to start this series and in true Devney Perry fashion I already feel like I know some of the other runaway kids and now I’m even more excited for the rest of this series.
Stunning read!
This beautiful story is a must and definitely a top read in 2020.
It pulls at your heart strings with passion, humor and all kinds of emotions.
Smart, intelligent writing, this beautiful heartfelt read captivated my attention from beginning to end.
A young divorcee finds herself alone, betrayed and heartbroken. She needs a fresh start so she decides to go on a road trip for a fresh start. Alone, in her 1964 cherry red Cadillac…and no phone!!
Sitting behind the wheel of her car forced her to take a hard look at the past eight years, until an unfortunate misshap leads to an unforeseen stop in a small town in West Virginia.
When she meets a handsome alpha god mechanic Brooks, she’s sorry not sorry for the unscheduled stop to fix her car. Except that other missteps begin to happen slowing down her journey.
This bit of suspense adds to the complexity of the story as Londyn and Brooks are not only trying to figure out their situation but also who’s behind these mysterious acts of vandalism.
I won’t say more because this story really deserves to be enjoyed fully.
The result is a thought provoking journey about second chances in life, self discovery and closure. The scorching romance that develops between Brooks and Londyn has an expiration date but is there more?
I cannot wait to see what happens next, but the beauty of book 1 was that it felt complete. No cliffhangers not what happened to Brooks and a Londyn.
This story is a must!
Runaway Road was short, sweet and fun! The first book in a new series and I loved how it kept me engaged, a bit suspicious and falling for these characters. Small town (which is my fave) and romance what else could you ask for?! These characters the author has introduced are wonderful and I can’t wait to meet the rest on their road trips.
I have loved every book I have read by Devney Perry from the first book of hers I have read to everyone I have picked up after. In Runaway Road we get a heartwarming read that I devoured in one sitting. It was a story about second chances, love and hope. Londyn McCormack left home at a very young age and feels like she has been running ever since. Life may not have been easy for her, but she continues to move forward. When an unexpected accident brings her to a small town and Brooks Cohen, life just may take an unexpected turn, but may be just what she needs.
I absolutely loved Londyn. She was strong and determined and ready to move forward. Brooks was caring, protective and just what Londyn needed. But can she learn to open her heart again? I loved the slow burning build up between Brooks and Londyn. Runaway Road by Devney Perry was such a great read. It was emotional, heartfelt and will just live you smiling.
Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Blog.
Happy reading!
4.5 Runaway stars!
“Turn the car around, Londyn”. she said “I’d give it all up, the company, the money and the power. I’d give it all up just to feel something”.
What do you do when all you’ve ever wanted just comes crumbling down and the world you built for yourself just shatters? You get on your restored car and runaway of course!
Londyn came from nothing, so she worked hard to build up everything she didn’t have. But it turns out that the grass isn’t always greener and she lost herself in the hustle.
Brooks had all he ever thought he needed, so he wasn’t counting on a runaway blonde crashing into his life.
This story is about connections, life, choices, love and what happens when all of those connect. It was different and refreshing and it took me to a place I wasn’t expecting it to. Devney delivers a funny yet heartfelt story and stills keeps you wanting more.
I think this might be my new favorite series after Jamison Valley and Lark Cove series. Yep, Devney has blessed us with another series to absolutely rave about. Runaway Road is here and it needs to be in your hands right away. I can’t say that I’ve read many romances where there’s a roadtrip involved, but the ones I have read were definitely some of my favorite reads. And this one a favorite for sure.
I cannot tell you enough how much I loved this book, it’s just something different that I haven’t read about before. And the fact that we’ll see a bit of a trend throughout the series, I’m here for all of it.
Brooks, Brooks, Brooks. Swooning over this guy for days. A genuinely kind and caring person, plus he won me over almost instantly. Willing do anything to help a mere stranger.
I love a good slow-burn and that’s kind of what we got with Londyn and Brooks. There was no doubt about their chemistry and instant connection, but who knows they could have especially when Londyn is only in town for a limited amount of days.
This is quite different than Devney’s previous books, her writing has come a long way and taking us in this new direction. Runaway Road had the perfect amount of everything, a lot of tender and just sweet moments between the both of them. They’re were constantly at peace with one another and you can’t help but root for them.
Runaway Road needs to be on your TBR … you know what, just go a buy the book, you won’t be disappointed.

Devney Perry
NEW BOOK FROM DEVNEY PERRY! And read this blurb – it looks so good!
Amazing start to a new series from Devney! Love her small town romances!
The word ‘runaway’ has quite a negative connotation, but not all reasons for running away are unwise or poor decisions; sometimes, it’s for survival or protection…sometimes, it’s a way to start over, recreating oneself in a way that was always there just beneath the surface…it just needed a little help to bloom.
Londyn McCormack is one such runaway and even though she’s, once again, running, she’s not doing it to negate responsibilities or to simply get out of unwanted circumstances…she’s running away to find herself
…to start a new life with a fresh perspective. She never ran just to simply run…there always seemed to be something she was searching for to help heal her heart and her soul and she seems to find it in the unlikeliest of circumstances.
The strength that Londyn has, even early on in her life, demonstrates the kind of person she is. She knew at 16 years old that the woman who gave birth to her and her sperm donor weren’t interested in taking care of you, so she got out, and forged her own path and even though it wasn’t easy and she struggled, she still made the right decision for her, making things better or at least trying to live happily and fully.
Like all of Perry’s small-town heroes, Brooks Cohen, is a strong, protective and endearing male lead and what he offers to Londyn is everything she never knew she needed and he’s patient enough to show her just how much.
Brooks, undoubtedly, plays a significant role in helping Londyn find her place in life – one that both fills her with love and appreciation as well as allows her to finally feel like she has a home. But as much as Brooks is a pivotal character, this book is wholly Londyn’s and that’s clear in plot line as well as the evolvement of her character as she takes this new and hopefully life-changing journey.
The fact Londyn and Brooks’ relationship is slow burning, despite their mutual attraction, is fitting for what she has already endured and what she’s trying to find, and I love how Brooks was always there to at least help guide her down a path that has him waiting at the end.
Devney Perry’s newest release, Runaway Road, book one in her Runaway series, is a unique, insightful, and soul searching read that will have readers seeking the freedom and the connections that these characters find on the road and with each other.
4.5 Poison Apples
Overall Grade:
Devney Perry has this innate ability as a writer to capture the lives of people who have endured pain and trauma by controlling the variables of their lives. In many of her books, the key variable of control is relationships with others. Whether it’s through hermiting themselves away or erecting tall emotional walls, it’s these moments in her stories that offer the tension that we all love to hate. She crafts characters that feel real: they look like us (somewhat), they act like us, they feel like us. Therefore, we find bits of ourselves reflected back at us, and it acts as a mirror of the human condition. Perry’s newest story, Runaway Road, is no different. In the midst of the simple quiet of Brooks Cohen and Londyn McCormack’s story is a truth that we all need to love and be loved in order to live an abundant life. This truth is found in so many of Devney Perry’s stories, and it’s the reason that so many of us love her writing.
Runaway Road tells the story of Brooks Cohen and Londyn McCormack. Londyn has left her former life: a husband, a life abundant with riches, and her best friend. Why? Her husband is cheating on her, her abundant life is only abundant in its wealth, and she needs to move on, even if leaving her friend is difficult. When life gets difficult, Londyn has learned to keep moving in order to keep herself afloat. As she leaves her old life behind, she finds herself stranded in Summers, West Virginia, a small town filled with downhome, kind people. It is there, while she awaits her car repairs, that Londyn meets the local mechanic, Brooks Cohen. At first meeting, Londyn and Brooks are drawn to each other.
Brooks Cohen is a single dad who has decided to live life free from relationships. The one relationship in his past gave him his son, but also an ex-wife who made his life difficult. With the challenges of being a single dad and owning a business, he hasn’t felt like anything is missing, until Londyn. As their story progresses, and they fall deeply for each other, the tension of this story centers around Londyn’s need to leave Summers and continue her roadtrip to California. Will Londyn leave Brooks behind, or will she finally find the place with him where she can live her best life?
Two words about this story: Brooks Cohen. Seriously, Brooks Cohen. As the hero of this story, he is the perfect combination of alpha-male and empath. From one moment to the next, Brooks takes charge while connecting emotionally with Londyn at a level that she can handle. Londyn’s emotional walls are high based on her past. As the story progresses, it’s Brooks’s kindness and empathic nature that begin to break those walls down.
Londyn is Perry’s prototypical heroine: she’s internally strong, beautiful, and closed off. This is grounded in her past, a troubled one. With a heroine like Londyn, the story must show her unraveling; Brooks taking the time to peel back her layers is the gold of this story. As Londyn falls deeper for Brooks, as the reader, you need her to stay in Summers with him. We can see that he completes her in ways that her ex-husband could never. Summers offers her the perfect life, but, to build that tension, Perry keeps us anticipatory to the very end of the story. Together, Brooks and Londyn are like many of Perry’s story couples: pure romance gold.
There is a certain simplicity to Perry’s storytelling. I love how she develops stories that keep me reading to the final page. There is a quiet within her words that capture your heart and give you the feeling that you’re wrapped in a comfortable blanket. I look forward to reading her books because I trust she will develop beautiful stories about the foibles of human nature. There will always be a struggle, and the hero and heroine will have to work for their happy ending. But, in the end, all is always right in Devney Perry Land. Runaway Road is no different. It’s a little bit roadtrip and small town romance. I gorged on every part of this book and came out satiated on the love story of Brooks and Londyn. Perry has once again written a powerful romance of finding love after difficulties for her readers.
